Don't be surprised if Monty doesn't start Reke
TF is Jimmer?!?!?!?!
My current depth chart:
C: Asik, Ajinca, Withey
PF: AD, Ryno, Young
SF: Reke, Miller, Babbitt
SG: Gordon, Salmons, Jimmer
PG: Jrue, Rivers, Russ
I think Salmons will play more 3 than 2, but I see him more as a 2 so that were I line him up at in a depth chart unless he's starting.
But I would like to see a second unit of either Ajinca, Ryno, Salmons, Fredette, & Rivers or Ajinca, Ryno, Salmons, Rivers, & Russ. I also wouldn't mind seeing Young as well, but I see him more 4 than 5 at least early on. But more than likely Darius Miller or Luke Babbitt will play the 3 with a Rivers & Salmons backcourt just to mess with me.
PG: Holiday, Rivers, Smith*
SG: Gordon, Evans, Fredette
SF: Salmons, Babbitt, Miller
PF: Davis, Anderson, Young*
C: Asik, Ajinca, Withey*
*Inactive List/D-League
Really not even close if we are being honest.
I don't think Young should go to d-league. I mean after-all the d stands for development right? I don't think Young has that much to develop. There are always things he needs to learn, but his ceiling is not that high. It's because what he brings to a team is something that's needed. Just don't see the benefit of sending him down there.
Russ I'll admit I'd be a little disappointed if we sent him down. It might benefit him (a little) but I'd rather him sit on the bench and get some PT when there are injuries. I mean if we wouldn't send down Rivers to the d-league his rookie year, I seriously doubt we would send down Russ either. Keep in mind, how many players in Demps/Williams' tenure have they sent to the dleague. 1? 2? All I can think of off the top of my head is Pierre and I believe Dairus for a very short time. I think they believe in those guys being on the roster around their teammates.
The lineup. I don't think we'll send anyone to the d league.
Just so people know, you are allowed 13 active players.
Holiday/Rivers/Smith
Gordon/Jimmer
Evans/Salmons/Miller
Davis/Anderson/Babbitt
Asik/Ajinca/Withey/Young
When you look at it this way the Jimmer signing makes a lot of sense. I don't think the team wanted Russ getting a ton of minutes from the start.
I know a lot of people want nice pretty 3 deep stacks at each position, and you can make players play at other positions but I think this is the true line-up. Let's see if training camp and pre-season changes things.
Oh, I could also see Withey and Young being the two inactive.
My guess at active 13
1 AD
2 Ryno
3 Jrue
4 Asik
5 Tyreke
6 Gordon
7 Russ
8 Withey
9 Ajinca
10 Rivers
11 Babbitt
12 Miller
13 Jimmer
----------
14 Young
15 Salmons
He might play more than he should, Monty could give him too many minutes, but the other players are younger and know Monty's system and Salmons best days are behind him. Salmons was .399, .350, and .368 FG% last 3 seasons, interestingly, he shot better from 3 the last two seasons. (.371, .381, and .388) then his overall FG%. So Salmons should only be taking 3's and not trying to create at all if he does play. I'd rather Darius Miller see the court, he is an above average defender. I wouldn't be surprised if Jimmer was inactive and Salmons was active, depending on what Monty is looking for. I would prefer Jimmer to play in situations where the team needs a 3, or to drain free throws. I think both are more insurance than anything at this point, but Jimmer could improve where he needs to and be a factor. Will be interesting to find out who gets the final spots on the active list.
Would not like that decision because both are better than Salmons already and are improving. Salmons is going the opposite direction and this will be his last year on the Pelicans, I predict. So it doesn't seem like a good move long term to give Salmons minutes for one season when he's about equal to some other players who are still improving. Maybe Salmons was brought in for more of a veteran presence and extra coach in the locker room.
top 9 players
AD, Asik, Ryno, Reke, Gordon, Jrue, Rivers, Salmons and Miller(or Ajinca)
I predict starting line up
Asik/AD/Salmon/Gordon/Jrue
with Reke/Ryno/Rivers
We will ALWAYS keep 3 shooters on the floor to provide spacing for AD and guards
Specialist
Ajinca - length
Rabbitt/Jimmer - 3 pointer
Miller - Emergency D/SF
Young or Withey - Emergency big
inactive
Russ/Young or Withey
If this group play hard on D they're almost as good as any other team.
Dont be surprised if we see Rivers, Jimmer, Evans off the bench playing together a lot. It makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Similar to having roberts rivers and evans off the bench but jimmer can shoot way better than roberts. I think the players off the bench will be determined by who we play and what we need on the court at that time.
Jrue / Austin / Russ
Gordon / Salmons
Reke / Miller
AD / Ryno
Asik / Ajinca / Withey / Young
** Inactive: Jimmer / Babbitt
Depending on the matchups... Jimmer would be active and a big (wither Withey or Young) would go inactive.
Here's my stab at lineups/ rotations.
If I were the coach:
Holiday-Rivers-Russ
Gordon-Jimmer
Evans-Salmons-Miller*
AD-Ryno
Asik-Ajinca-Young-Withey*
* = inactive (no players to dleague)
What I think Monty will do:
Holiday-Gordon-Salmons-AD-Asik
Around 5-6mins Evans enters for Salmons.
Around 8-10mins Ryno enters for Asik (AD moves to center), Rivers enters for Holiday, and Jimmer for Gordon
2nd quarter starts with Rivers-Jimmer-Evans-Ryno-Asik/Ajinca
Rotations for 2nd quarter not going to even guess but around 5 mins our core guys should be in that will be in at the end of the game.
I can see some scenarios where when our backups are in, Russ enters the game and Rivers moves to the 2.
No clue who Monty will have inactive, but I don't think he sends anyone to dleague.
Tyreke and Salmons are the same height so I don't see him starting him over Reke. Maybe if we had more of a true sf he would but I think this was done on purpose by Dell to force Monty to start Reke.

A couple things here:
You have 108 min going to bigs. So that means you have either AD or Ryno at the 3 for at least 12 mins per game. I tend to disagree that will happen, but we will see.
It's rare that a guy is a part of the rotation, but only gets 4 minutes. Not even enough time to get him semi warmed up. How would you see that playing out over the course of the game? 2 mins a half, just at the end of the quarter or something to give guys a rest. Would be odd to put a guy in at like the 9 min mark and take him out at the 7 min mark. Rarely, if ever, see that.
Thanks for the critique. You definitely have some points. I'll give my reasoning, flawed as it may be.
I wanted to give Jimmer the same "only plays if necessary" but thought I would get critiqued for that because Jimmer seems to be well-liked here. So I cut into Austin's minutes, which were originally 18.
Also, I honestly was just really going for the minutes. I didn't think into the actual position designation for those minutes. If that's the case, I'll probably have to scale back someone's minutes, and I don't want to for anyone. The only big not vital to our success is Ajinca, so I'm not sure how we bring minutes down. Maybe give Asik 30 and give Salmons 2 more? Take a few from AD and Ryno?
I think having Asik is going to allow us to do interesting things with AD that we weren't able to do before. I don't think it will be for extended time, but I do think we'll see those three together for at least a handful of minutes. Maybe it doesn't fit with my calculations, but I mostly threw them together.
Perhaps Davis can play the 3 in our big line up of Holiday, Tyreke, Davis, Ryno, Asik
That's the core: AD, Asik, Jrue
Fill in the gaps, add some depth, get the best out of Gordon, and this is a top-5 in the west!
