Pass. I know I'm in the minority here but I don't want oladipo. Of course I'll take him if mclemore,Burke, porter,Len and Bennett are off the board but that won't happen.
I agree kc. I don't want him either before the other guys. Drafting a SG this high who can't consistently create his own shot? Sorry, pass.
I'd be ok with this. Dipo/Porter/Burke I'm happy.
If Oladipo is there draft him and trade Gordon for Bledsoe future 1st and whatever else we want thats reasonable. Bledsoe/Rivers/Oladipo would all be capable of covering SGs and PGs while 2 of them can run the offense. The defense from them would be top in the league with potential to be great offensively.
Love Dipo. Love his game. Love his attitude. Would be a booster shot for the franchise. May never be an All-Star but his defensive intensity and athleticism would fit the bill for the Pels. Choice between he and Burke would be tough. I think you could play Dipo at the 3 for stretches in many lineups in today's NBA.
He and Bennett are the two guys I do not want at all costs(Bennett simply because of Davis/Anderson). Dipo measured in a about 6'3 without shoes, 6'4 with, making him undersized for a SG, much less a SF. Austin Rivers is 6'4 without shoes and 6'5 with, just for comparison.
Flat out, I have no interest in a SG that can't, by name, shoot. I think the kid can defend on the next level. But he's got too much Aminu in him if you know what I mean. Taking out our 20+ PPG Eric Gordon for Dipo would set us, and basketball as a sport, back about a hundred years.
Oladipo is pretty far from what we need.
He'd be a BPA kind of deal, purely. It's so hard to pass up that athleticism.
If Otto Porter and Ben McLemore is off the board, we better take Victor Oladipo if he is there. I would always go best player available, when you are a rebuilding team and not one piece away from contending. Especially when the player plays the position of a player that is often injured and would likely be traded if a good enough deal falls into Dell's lap. If you look at this team, I would say shooting guard is more of a need than point guard. We currently have 3 guys we consider point guards and only one shooting guard. We need depth at that position more than we need another point guard. I know we could use an improvement at the position, but I don't think we need another 20 year old point guard since we have one already on the roster.
If we could get the timberwvoles to do a sign and trade with Pekovic and the 9th pick for our 6th pick and Lopez I would do it. We would be able to land bazz, MCW, maybe even Burke if he falls.
Honestly, I'm happy with any pick that isn't Cody Zeller. Case closed.
I'd be very happy with drafting and keeping Oladipo, or even happy if we took him to trade back...unless we ended up with Shabazz. That would be a nightmare.
That's not possible. Pek has to agree to a S&T and he can't agree to anything until July 1st. It's not the same as waiting until July 1st to complete a draft day trade so you're working with next year's money. Pek could say no.
Sorry, I worded that really poorly. When I said he had a little Aminu in him, I actually wasn't referring to his shot at all. He has those long arms that he almost can't help but dribble away from his body. He's just really loose with the basketball IMO, like Aminu. He was 44.1% from three last season on 68 shots. 33.8% while at Indiana on a pretty small sample size. Not awful. But I don't see him being a strong offensive player in the NBA. I really don't.
This team needs deep shooting. 1,2,or 3 position - I don't really care.
That would be my dream selection right there. Love his defensive intensity and can very easily be everything this team is missing in terms of an effect wing player with a High basketball IQ and willing to work his tail off. Hoping Alex Len is taken by the time New Orleans selects.
Best player available.
So shooting 60% means he can't shoot?
Or 75% ft that equals Lebron James pro ft #s?
Sorry to be sarcastic but seems like he will be fine.
They have nba GMs who are predicting him to be a 9-10ppg career type player. U know the guys who do this thing for real?? I'll go with their professional opinions. Going from Gordon to oladipo would be a downgrade. Bottom line. We want to upgrade I'm pretty sure.
For a team that has maybe 2 legitimate scorers and need defensive help, he may be higher on their radar. I would not trade probably our biggest offensive weapon and go the complete opposite way. Now, he could be a compliment to Gordon if the team were already strong enough to afford that.
I wouldn't trade Gordon if we draft Ola, but if we could somehow land Mclemore then yes I would.
how important tony Allen is to memp. Def just isn't as sexy to people. If gm were always right. There wouldn't be busts
The idea we could be looking at the number one or number two players on my big board I feel good about that.
Dipo might walk into the perfect situation for him here. Defensive coach, behind a star so he won't be forced to push too fast too early.
Get his minutes off the bench early in the year, get acclimated, Gordon gets traded (or gets hurt), he takes over. Pretty much the exact opposite of the Rivers project :hihi:
Burke and Oladipo
