I'm not going to lie...I can't seem to figure out who the best PG of this draft is. I am torn between Burke, Carter-Williams, and McCollum. Can anybody shed some light and which one is the best for the future...not now, but in the years to come.

McCollum isn't a PG. That one's pretty easy.
Carter-Williams just isn't in the same league. Only reason he's even discussed is his height. This is a guy that was 39.3% from the field, 29.2% from 3, and 69.4% from the FT. All while turning the ball over 3.4 times a game.
Meanwhile, Trey Burke was the best player in college basketball.
Sometimes things are as simple as they seem.
Just curious - why isn't McCollum a PG? Very similar assist rate to Lillard in college.
I would be fine saying he isnt a traditional PG. But if Lillard and Curry are listed as PG's, then McCollum can play PG
Burke now. Maybe the other two down the line.
But for our team i would rather a PG that can both score when he wants, and set up offense for the rest of the team. While McCollum and C-Williams can do one of them really well, (McCollum-score, C-williams-distribute) they lack in the other. The one thing to note is Williams can defend pretty well, compared to the other two.
So, the real question i guess is what would you rather....
1.) PG that can score/great ball handling skills and distribute, but isn't known to be a great defender.
2.) PG that can distribute and defend, but can't shoot and not a great ball handler (ton of turnovers).
3.) PG that is a great scorer but not known to really distribute the ball
Only reason PG and McCollum are said in the same sentence is because he's so short for a SG. He is your typical guy without a position.
Comparing McCollum and Lillards assist statistics is kind of pointless as we could compare centers and guys off the bench with compareable assists stats. Neither pass the ball well or at all really, and that showed with Lillard in his first year. He got tons of acclaim for being such a good scorer, but he was awful in setting up his team and playing defense, two things the media and average fan don't pay attention to.
And knowing that Lillard struggled with this, he had 4 assists a game vs. 2.3 TO's his senior season. McCollum had 2.9 assists and 2.7 TO's, 3.5 assists a game being his college high.
He's just not a PG. I won't waste a ton of time beating this to death as I've said my opinion in other threads, but he is a 6'3 SG that would be fantastic as a guy off the bench. Make him a Jason Terry and I am all on board. Starting PG of this team? That would be insane.
I watched a ton of Lillard in college and heading up to the draft. You could probably look back and see I was beating the drum for him. Everyone wanted to question his competition, but the kid had a knack for putting the ball in the basket. At the end of the day, I don't see the same natural scorer in McCollum. He only played 12 games his senior year. That's what a lot of people look at and get excited. He was a pretty inefficient player his soph and junior seasons before that. And I think that's basically what he is.
burke.
Nate Wolters:
-Crafty point guard who can get to the rim
-Good shooter with range
-High basketball IQ
-Excellent ball handler
-Sees the floor well, gets teammates involved
-6'5" 196
larkin is a sleeper...athletic and wins
ill bet
mcw goes b4 burke
I seriously doubt you watched a ton of Lillard in college didn't know they were televised so often. CJ not being a PG makes no sense considering he was one of the most productive players in college basketball before injury along with a great jr. year. He was not asked to pass just like Lillard wasn't. His turnovers are not to bad considering his usage rate compared to others. Not like Lillard blew us away as being the next John Stockton. CJ has as good of a chance to be a PG as Westbrook Rose and Lillard who you could say are all SGs that play PG.
Best true point guard is Burke. Best athletic point guard is MCW. Best shooting point guard is McCollum. It depends on your team. Since we have a small shooting guard, I actually think MCW is the best fit for this team. I don't want to take any of them at 6 and hope Otto Porter, Ben McLemore, or Alex Len is there when we pick.
I'm wondering if Len, Porter and Burke are gone, would you be satisfied with MCW?
I don't know if our staff is high on him, not much has been told about him in Monty interviews...
He is like a more athletic GV, young enough to improve his shooting, and A/T ratio. Clearly a defensive guard that can fit in our system and in Monty's philosophy.
Personally, I would be satisfied, he would bring a lot to this team : speed, defense (I believe in his defense even though, he is coming from Syracuse, Monty is running a zone at times)
Still rather Burke overall
If you believe "sources" Burke may not even have to be gone to select MCW.
Honestly, MCW probably has a high chance to be the pick because he would fit the best on this team besides his game, such as his personality, demeanor etc. Where Burke really dosen't, CJM may fit better overall than Burke. If we pick Burke, he may throw off the chemistry with the guys we have, especially the guards.
I would be sick if we passed on Burke for MCW and just left CJMCC there. . .I think he's top two guard in the draft and the best long term fit out of all the guards in the draft as well.
Only reason I wouldn't take him is if Len or Porter were there.
Who is like me and do not want us to select Trey Burke? It seems like almost everyone on this site wants Trey Burke. I would take any of the top 6 players in Chad Ford's tier 3 over him.
I think a lot of you will be upset when we do not take Trey Burke. What this team needs more than a point guard is a wing or center. We have 4 guys that can play point guard IMO in Vasquez, Rivers, Roberts, and Gordon. The only way we would take a point guard, is if he was something special like CP3. I'm sorry to say guys, Trey Burke is no CP3. He will be an average point guard in this league at best. I think his ceiling is Jameer Nelson and that is not what we want with the 6th pick. Then he may not even reach that comparison as his ceiling. We need an athletic point guard that can maybe not shut down some of the great point guards in this league, but can at least stay with them. If we add a point guard this offseason, I would rather one with experience and athleticism like Brandon Jennings. I think Jennings still has upsize and can become one of the better point guards in this league with the right situation. Look at his numbers for the Bucks and imagine them with AD, Anderson, and Gordon around him. He hasn't played with any big men that has the offensive capabilities of AD.
What is the reason you like Trey Burke so much? I'm watching these finals and I think I would rather Mario Chalmers than Trey Burke lol!
I'm really indifferent about it. Bennett is one of the only guys I'd be enraged if we took.
It's cool if you don't want Burke. It's perfectly fine.
The reason I want Burke is because you mention AD playing with Jennings, what is the number one play you want our PGs to be able to do to most utilize AD?
The pick and roll. And Burke is very good at it and he can still get a lot better.
And most of all, I love Burke's killer instinct. The desire to take and make big shots, make big plays. It's what he does. It's what we need. What this team needs goes beyond just positional stuff. We need guys that want the ball in big moments, the game is never bigger than them. Guys like Burke, Oladipo, or Porter. That's my big 3 wants. McLemore kinda, but less than those other guys.
Never mind I need to learn to read
Your opinion on Burke is yours and nobody should have a problem with that however just because you think he's ceiling is that low doesn't mean it is. Likewise just because I think is ceiling is much much higher doesn't mean it that either.
To the point of who to draft. We are no where near the point where we draft for need. We need to take the BPA if that Burke we should take him if the organization feel it's not him when it's our pick we should draft somebody else.
Draft for talent; trade and sign fas for need.
If you can draft for talent and need; that's easy; I'm saying when faced with a choice..
