Larry Sanders

I saw this trade idea posted on At the Hive, and found it interesting.

It went along the lines of Vasquez, Lopez, and a 2014 first-round pick for Larry Sanders.

My questions are:
-Is the trade realistic for both parties?
-If not, which party is losing out?
-Is Sanders untouchable?
-Thoughts on this front court combination moving forward?

Roster moving forward:

/Rivers/Roberts
Gordon/
/Miller
Davis/Anderson/Thomas
Sanders/Smith

6th pick in the draft + ~24M in cap space...

That is a horrible trade for us.

No, it's a great trade for us. Sanders could very well be a top 5 center next year. Of course, we'd have to temper ourselves with the excessive cap space since he'll be getting a $12m+/yr contract next season, but we could always trade for an expiring guy like Deng or Granger for a season (shouldn't cost much, Chicago will be in the tax with a cheap owner and I'm pretty sure Indy would prefer ~$10m in cap space than an aging Granger coming off an injury) , or if GSW wants to go all in on a guy like Howard, take on Biedrins+Jefferson and Klay Thompson in exchange for the cap space.

Probably wouldn't. If they are looking to resign Ellis, they obviously aren't trying to blow it up.

Trade makes us worse, but at least we'd still have a high lottery pick in one of the most hyped drafts ever... oh wait

This, I'm glad someone else see's it, no way we trade our 2014. We would give the Bucks a good pg a decent center with a good contract and a lottery pick in a loaded draft for Larry Sanders lol:hihi:

Sanders is a significantly better player than Vasquez and Lopez. And yes, the 2014 draft will be good, but it may surprise you that some people would prefer to have a good team every once in a while as opposed to getting excited about what high lottery pick we'll get NEXT year. Sanders/AD gives us one of the best defensive front courts in the NBA at a combined age 4 years older than Jason Kidd. It also frees up $4m in salary this season to either help fill out the roster with long term FA's, or as I mentioned earlier, allows us even more room to take on bad expiring contracts for a year in exchange for picks/decent young players. I really think you're underestimating Sanders.

I would do this trade. Championships aren't built by draft picks alone, they take solid fa signings and trades. Look at the Spurs, Lakers, Miami, Boston, and Detroit. Sure they had one of their own high lottery picks they built around, but the rest were moves made in the later part of the draft and in FA. If AD progresses, this will be a very solid move. People wet their pants at the thought of teaming AD up with a McGee/ athletic Center type, well...

I would do it IF we could buy the mavs pick so we could draft saric, we need a SF so bad and if we give up next years pick we wont be able to get one because no one will be selling their pick next year, too great of a draft, plus saric would go well with davis and sanders since he is such a good passer

I would do this as long as we could make it top 10 protected next year. We're a much better team next year by upgrading at PG and signing a servicable SF, but we could easily be a bottom 3 team with a season ending injury to any position. We would be incredibly thin at just about every position with that move.

Tell me how adding Sanders makes up a better team, Lopez avg more points, shoot a better % from the field, and avg only 1 less block a game then Sanders. Sanders will not make us a playoff team next year so why give up a lottery pick

Sanders is arguably the best rim protector in the league. It's not about blocks. It's about deterring shooters, and he is right up there. Moreover, he is much quicker in PnR defense, where Lopez sucks. Most importantly, he is a MUCH better rebounder than Lopez, who sucks.

Personally, I'd be fine with that. I'm not a GM or anything but I would just be worried about losing a top 5 pick because of injuries.

We'd have the #6 pick this year and close to $20m in cap space to fill out the roster.

They're not looking to trade Sanders. He's their center of the future. They're satisfied. They don't need a point guard or a center. The first-round pick is not important and can be a late one. I'd do it for us, but they won't.

Hell have you ever watched sanders play? Comparing him to lopez is like comparing chris paul to josé calderón, c'mon now.

I'd do the trade (if we could get some sort of protection on the pick) but i don't see a reason why the bucks would do it

Yep -- I don't see how Milwaukee gets excited about this one but I'd do it. To be honest (even though it hurts me to say this), I'd even do this trade:

Sanders for Anderson

I can then feel confident about drafting Burke (since in a defensive system that only needs him to funnel to the help isn't as hard as attacking the ball handler). Hone him behind Vasquez (until it gets clear he can take over). We can still then trade the 2014 pick for something else (or maybe not at all). We sign Henderson and Budinger (hopefully, they'll agree) roll out next year with:

Vasquez/Burke
Gordon/Henderson/Rivers (Sad :( )
Budinger/Henderson
Davis/Smith
Sanders/Lopez

they wouldnt do sanders for ryno straight up, maybe GV and ryno for sanders which i would prob still do.

They would never give up Sanders unless they were getting Chris Bosh or someone who was an absolute freak. Visit their website, he's their brand right now. It would be on par with us considering trading Anthony Davis for picks.
