Would you trade Gordon to...

Atlanta for the #17 and #18 picks? We may have to add a player or two, dont know. What would you think if we use one of the picks on a foreign player ( I vote Saric or Giannis) and use the other pick on an energy guy, like Gorgui Dieng. With our Lottery pick take Burke.

I would only do a trade like that if we can turn those 2 picks into an up and coming player that's undervalued ala Ryan Anderson. I honestly don't want too many rookies especially ones from the middle rounds.

I really like how kevtavious caldwell-pope, archie goodwin and giannis project in the pro's so if i could definetly land 2 of those 3 then yes, then u take the salary u saved and go spend it on someone like Pek or whoever. Now a day with the new CBA the more draft picks the better, they are cheap and u have a better chance at hitting with a good player. So yes, then my draft would go like this:

Pick 5: Trey Burke
Pick 17: Giannis
Pick 18: Archie Goodwin or Pope

Then take all the cap I just saved and go after Pek for our starting center, and all the rest of it on great bench players like budinger, gerald henderson, corey brewer, ETC.

Giannis has as much potential as anyone in the draft, the kid turned 18 only 4 months ago.

Thats a good point, and yes too many can be a bad thing, u just have to make sure u dont draft kids with bad work ethics or attitude problems and i think its ok. Davis and Rivers are both hard workers, Burke will be 21 next season, ryno, pek, gv and lopez i think would be enough vets. Look at all the kids on the thunder, they were in the same boat a couple years ago and got older. plus it doesnt mean u have to keep them, u can make trades later on and try and get good pieces. I by no means am an expert and if gordon could stay healthy i want him, but i just dont know if he can, i hope he can.

In the NBA, 4 quarters doesn't equal a dollar. Gordon is a fringe All Star calibre player, and we won't find anything near that in the late-teens.

Im just trying to think if we do keep gordon and end up drafting burke what would we do with our cap and trade assets in GV and Lopez to fix the SF and C position? hmm im trying to think what decent young SF could we get for a GV + Lopez combo and we could sign pekovic. There arent many good young SFs in the league that could be had for them, id love tobias harris but i dont think they would do it.

I think if Demps is seriously looking to upgrade the competitveness of the team, Vasquez won't be a Pelican next year.

I didn't say he couldn't.

I basically think we're gonna upgrade the 1 in some shape or form. I also think:

Managment is still heavily invested in the development of Rivers
AND Vasquez's value is at an all time-high.

Take all those variables into account simultaneously. That's the premise behind my thinking. It's more to do with the situation and fit, less to do with the player and what he brings to the table.

Anyone who argues that AR is a viable backup at the 2 clearly didn't pay attention to his play at the 2 vs. the 1.

Maybe we need to just stop going for the quick fix and build slowly and smart through the draft, Davis JUST turned 20, rivers is 20 and will be 21 soon, burke is 20, next year has a deep class of SF's. Im hoping Dell just does this the right way. If we couldnt trade anyone and we had to stick with what we got because we dont wanna overpay in free agency or get equal value in a trade i'd hope we just take burke.

If The staff is as high on Rivers as a PG of the future, then they wouldn't upgrade the PG position this offseason. But instead, they'd retain Vasquez until Rivers is ready to start. Vasquez is still on a very cheap contract and is very productive. He can play both guard positions and even the 3 in our small ball lineups.

If Rivers is truly the PG of the future, then Vasquez would be the perfect PG off the bench. The only way I'd imagine getting rid of Vasquez benefits the team is if and only if they run out and draft Burke who can do the same things Vasquez does. And that would pretty much contradict everything they've said about Rivers this past year.

Rivers needs time to develop. He clearly won't be starting material for at least 2-3 more seasons. The kid is 19. He's a project. At the same time, this is an extremely important time for the Pelicans franchise. I think Demps feels a certain pressure to put a respectable product on the floor. The quickest way to improve a team is to amplify its PG rotation. Given Vasquez's current value, Lopez as a supplementary commodity, cap space, and the draft pick, we have the resources to do so.

Vasquez is a serviceable player for sure. I'm just not sold that he'll be doing his thing here in the near future. Look for Rivers to recieve third guard rotation minutes sooner than later. Through experience, I have faith that Rivers will turn into a productive player. In the meantime, we could use a less limited starting PG. If we want to be competitve now. And I'm not speaking championship contender, but lower playoff seeding range.

Absolutely. People seem to forget what Gordon can do. Out of all wing players this year (SF and SG) only six averaged 20ppg or more. And all of them are untouchable. Eric Gordon's 17ppg (even after declining) this year puts him at 6th for shooting guards. His per 36ppg is 16th in the NBA. Lets not undervalue him folks.

Why would Demps feel pressured? He just signed an extension this past year. The team obviously feel good about Demps and the direction he's taking this team and he'll still have cap flexibility and a top 5/6 pick to add to the team. Vasquez is on a really cap friendly contract and Rivers is already receiving minutes. You can pretty much expect him to cut into Vasquez's minutes next season assuming progression is made. There is also a good chance that Roberts will have improved and will also cut into Vasquez's minutes.

Like I said before, Unless they draft Burke, I don't see a good enough reason to get rid of Vasquez. He's a perfect placeholder for Rivers.

I don't think any team or fan question Gordon's ability. It's his health that's the problem and literally kills his value. How reliable can he be? It's real hard for teams to find value in an expensive player who averages 49.5 games a season.

Which is why we shouldn't rush to trade him. Let him up his value and trade him if it is appropriate. Certainly not for ATL's two picks.

I don't disagree with your logic at all. It's really hard to say where Gordon fits into our plans right now. There's so much uncertainty with him. The team isn't hiding the fact that they are open to trading him. We'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out. I'm on the side who believes that if he's traded, it'll be in the offseason. And if that doesn't happen, I'll probably be more inclined to believe that they'll be here for at least another season.

If you make that trade you're gonna set the team back a couple more seasons. Monty wont last through 3 more losing seasons. People are saying you cant go for the quick fix which is true, but you cant just stockpile young talent after young talent after young talent. The coaching staff cant be expected to win with 18-21 year olds and develop ALL of them into their full potential at the same time.

So yeah this trade blows.

Let's see, should we trade the only player we have who can get to the basket, and not to mention our best perimeter defender for a couple of picks in the middle of a weak draft? Um.. NO.

Not saying Gordon is untouchable, but I don't see what good would come out of this particular trade.

I agree with you. The draft is weak. But so is the FA market. And because its a weak draft I would try and get a foreign player. While they may need to adjust to the NBA, i think they are at an advantage over college kids, just in the competition level. Me personally, I would prefer we keep Gordon. Draft Burke and try and get the best FA's we can. Try and get a 5 or 6 seed in the playoffs. And next offseason get the player or players that will take us to the finals. I just question sometimes if the Dell comments about them exploring all their options just another way of saying we are actively trying to move him. And in NBA trades you typically dont get back what you give up. It would be nice if we cant get two veteran players back in any Gordon deal that could be great compliments, it would be ideal. But if not, a vet and a couple of foreign talents would be interesting.

I'd do this trade all day...Give me Giannis and one of those other players? great!... though I doubt giannis will still me there at 17, but if he is I'd love the deal.

For example Giannis and Ruby Gobert for Gordon and we get an additional 10-12 million on cap room?!?! Of course I'd do that deal.

Wed have what? 30 million in cap room along with Anthony Davis, Ryan Anderson and 3 first round picks... that's how you build a great team.

Because its important to create a winning culture, integrating the team with the city. That's what the whole rebrand was about. You have to look at it from a business perspective too.

But I'm tired of talking about it. We'll see what happens. I'm almost certain that Vasquez won't be a Pelican by the end of next season, possibly before next season is even underway.

Obviously I have no insight but I really think that Demps and Monty would love to get rid of Gordon and get some value back. Think hes worn out his welcome and believe the only reason they matched the contract offer from the suns is to keep a tradeable chip. Hence Gordon being handled with kid gloves this year so he wouldnt get injured again and lose any trade value he has. I fully expect him not to be on the team next year if we can move him (which wont be easy)

well thats 1 of the reasons why i want him, not the overpaid part obviously, but with his coming off of injury he would be easier to acquire, but he doesnt rely on his athleticism to be productive, and we need someone at the 3 who can be a knock down shooter, i think thats what this team needs more than anything, with burke and gordon i think we need a floor spacer at the 3, with burke and gordon being so good with the ball in their hands in getting into the lane, it would also give them a target to pass to that can hit the shot. it doesnt have to be gallo but i believe it has to be an above average shooter, not an incredible athlete, this team didnt work with aminu because all u have to do is crowd the paint.

if ur a person for advanced stats, per 36 minutes he averaged 18 points 6 rebounds and 3 assists, he also had an offensive rating of 117 and a defensive rating of 107 with a win share of .151
That is a great defensive rating for what he brings to the table if u ask me. Plus he is only 24.

Good defensive SF's like Deng and Brewer had defensive ratings of 105 and 106.

To compare some SF's offensive and defensive ratings to gallo's

danillo Gallinari - offense 117 - defense 107
loul Deng - offense 105 - defense 105
corey brewer - offense 104 - defense 105

per 36 minutes gallinari was better than all of these guys, even paul george, and gallo is only 24.

I'm sorry but you just sound like you want to get rid of Vasquez because you don't like him. It has nothing to do with the winning culture that you claim. Vasquez is the very definition of winning culture. He's been the prime example of the type of guys they want to bring in here and has been highly regarded for his heart, competitive nature, and work ethic.. Now that doesn't mean that he is a flawless player. He is clearly flawed but he can definitely have a role on this team.

You'd ideally want Vasquez to play the Andre Miller role that he's currently playing for Denver and Ty Lawson. That's where I see him in the future plans with Rivers overtaking the starting position. That's assuming we don't draft a PG. If we do, then everything changes and there would be a GOOD reason to move Vasquez. Otherwise, you're just creating a hole and complicating the situation which heavily revolves around Rivers.

eric gordon for danny granger would make sense...i'd love to get hansborough out of the deal too

i would take the 17 and 18 picks for e.g. under the condition we drafted jamaal franklin and archie goodwin

i make the e.g./ granger trade suggestion for cap reasons. granger only has 2 years left on his deal and its at the same price as gordon. he's injured often and certainly not my 1st choice. but eric gordon plays with absolutely no heart and ill take what we can get at this point. the hometown doesn't hurt, it helps for the sake of desire

Not even close. Why? Because this draft is considered so weak, we could probably just buy a first in that range on the cheap.
