Schroeder is very high on my list.
Most intrigued by Gobert and Schroeder.
Would really like to see a workout with Schroeder and Burke. Be very interesting to me. Hell throw Austin in there too. Winner gets the keys to the offense.
Don't forget about Giannis Adetokunbo. He's going to shoot up the boards after the combines and workouts.
I think I might get one of these jerseys and get Davis or "Ryno" on the back Attachment 4901 any one else? Never knew there was another team named the pelicans
He's has potential but I dunno, he sorta smells like, like..."Juju". Lmao but the kid has potential to be great but how has most prospects from over the pond pan out lately? It's seems too much of an adjustment for them to come over here and adjust to this lifestyle, style of play and among other things. They rarely work out it seems or atleast not fast enough and get forgotten almost.
giannis and shrouder are the 2 best prospects
giannis i see a poor man's durant, he is only 18 and will improve
shrouder i see a poor man's westbrook/brandon jennings mix.
hi guys, i'm a hornets/ pelicans fan out of germany, who is reading here for years. first of all, i'm sorry for my poor english. i hope you guys can understand my words anyway. i've registered here to tell you sth about dennis schröder, because i'm thinking there is leck of imformation on this boarrd.
schröder plays in braunschweig (brunswick), which is just 60 miles away from my hometown. therefore i watched plenty of games of him. plus, a friend of mine, played some years with him in some youth national teams. so i guess, i got a complete picture of him in mind.
some thoughts:
1) right now, there is no way he is good enough to play in the nba. braunschweig is a bad team in the german pro league (BBL) and schroeder mainley plays there for financial reasons. his team isn't rich enough to fill the PG spot with a quality player. i think schroeder isn't among the best 10 lead guards in the BBL.
if you look at brian roberts, who also played in germany, and don't like what you see, schroeder will disappoint you. In fact, roberts was one of the best guards in the BBL at a very good team in bamberg. as a sixth men of his team, he was a seroius candidate for BBL's MVP award.
so in one sentence: roberts is much better than schroeder, which tells you a lot.
2) some compare schröder with rajon rondo. thats quite a bad joke. sure, due to his athleticism, he is already a decent defender with good anticipation und tremdendous lateral quickniss, but his recognition of P&R situations is really bad. in addition, he is no floor general, but looks most of the time for his own shot. if i've to campare him, i would say bobby jackson could be realistic.
3) mental aspects. schroeder seems to have problems to be a positive character in a group of guys. the friend of mine, who has played with schroeder, told me, he is arrogant. recently, he missed a team workout with braunschweig after the hoop summit. that is quite a bad move, because his team battled for a spot to avoid to got in the german minor league.
Thanks for the information man. I wasn't high on Schroeder before, but definitely not now. He would be a pretty huge reach unless we decided to trade down anyhow. Welcome to the board.
Your English was spot on, don't let that keep you from posting from now on, by the way.
Herzlich willkommen! :2thumb2: post more, we need more euros among all the yankees here :coolg:
Thanks for the info about schröder, didn't know much about him before your post, don't like him much now for sure.
As Mr. West said, don't worry about your english and don't let it stop you from posting. I've seen way worse english from americans on this board. Thanks again for your info man
Livio Jean-Charles's measurables and reports reads just like Aminu. If there's even the slightest chance he could maximize those tools, could be quite a get in the 2nd round or so.
Dang killer your spelling and grammar is better than half of this board already. Also, nice post bro.
I also like Roberts, but most of the board don't. For that reason, i compared schröders performance in the BBL with roberts. Despite schröder was locked out by his coach, braunschweig didn't get relegated. But the fact that schröder missed the team workout allthough BS led him go to the hoop summit, was quiet a shock in the small german basketball community.
i really don't say, that he can't be a great player. but for now, he isn't ready at all to play major minutes in the nba. his (physical) talents are obvious and his ball skills are as good as you can imagine, but there is a huge lack of mental craftiness in his game. even tough his one-on-one skills will better match with the type of game, which is played in the nba than in europe, he simply isn't ready to lead a team. i don't say, its not possible for him to figure that out (he never played for a great coach and he has depeloped pretty over the past two years) but personnaly i want the pelicans to get a decent starter at point guard. therefore i love trey burke.
schröder will definiteley succeed, but it takes time. drafting him in the 2nd round, parking him at a better BBL team with some international games (bamberg or berlin) over the next 3 years und you can get an excellent defender with some shot-making abilities. but no way, we should waste or lottery pick on him.
if you guys look for the next big thing out of europe, check out dario saric.
@ at all
thanks for welcome me. there are just a few hornets addicted fans on my german board, which is sometimes really disappointing, because nobody is there for discussion. if you understand my arguments, i would really like to be a part of you community. :)
I am a Hornets/Pelicans Fan from Germany, too! Did not know that there is a german hornets board as well, please give me the link!
I personally think that schroeder, if he develops slowly in europe over years could one day be a serveable nba point guard, but to trade down for him in this draft, is a bad idea for the pels! like you said, right now, roberts can bring more to the table and what we need is a true starting point guard who knows his game!
Thanks for the perspective KillerHornet but I have to disagree with your analysis as how it translate to the league. When I looked at the highlights from germany, I too, feel he was just another young kid with tools who wasn't ready for the league.
But then, he showed up at the Nike Hoop Summit and showed a side of him that I never saw in his highlight tapes. That side favorably shows the comparison to Rondo. A kind with great vision with an incredibly great first step. He was unguardable by doubleteams and easily split/got round them and got anywhere on the court with ease.
He played against NBA caliber NBA prospect and pretty much outplayed and outshined most of the best. These guys were playing a lot like that way the NBA and their spacing is played. I think his drive and kick game is perfectly tailored to the NBA style. You said his pick and roll game is bad right now but it looked amazing during the Nike Hoops Summit and he was praised all week long. I'm sure he'll have to develop like most young kids but I saw a kid that's more than just a project.
You can't scout these kids based on competition because the international game and the NBA is so much different especially with the spacing.
That guy would scare me if taken too soon, and it would scare me not to take him. He's extraordinarily athletic no doubt, but the level of competition leaves an accurate evaluation iffy at best. A phrase that comes to mind about him is "a gamble on greatness."
He is an incredibly big gamble right now especially with what we know. He could be one of those guys that could potentially put a GM on a hot seat or even fired if drafted too high. But the good news is, teams will get a much better look at him closer to the draft and will find out more about his coordination, hands, IQ, skill, work ethic, and capacity to grow.
Chad Ford's new mock released today:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5
Trey Burke
New Orleans Pelicans (8.8)
COLLEGE: Michigan
AGE: 20
HT: 6-1
WT: 175
POS: PG
Analysis: Burke certainly will get a look as the potential No. 1 pick if the Magic draft there. The other team that seems to fit Burke are the Pelicans. Yes, Greivis Vasquez is coming off a breakout season, but Burke is a totally different player and could complement Vazquez coming off the bench early on. The Pelicans' other big need is at small forward. Shabazz Muhammad could get a look here. So could Croatia's Dario Saric. Sources say that the Pelicans are one of the two or three strongest suitors for Saric at the moment.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Never heard this guy mentioned in top 5.
Dario Saric. Not interested. I want slashing, create your own offense off the dribble, face up or back down scorers. Don't need more spot up shooting to make drafting one necessary.
I was about to say. There have been multiple rumors of us like Saric.
With Monty & Dell coming from SA, don't be surprised if we start taking more looks or picks on guys like this. I would love to see us buy a late 1st or 2nd this year for one of those stash type players.
Fournier barely saw the court and then became a key cog in Denver's attack late in the year. Dude is only 19. And remember, in past "weak" drafts, Int'l players FLY off the board. Perhaps one will land here. Bad pun intended.
From the little video I've seen, it doesnt seem like he is limited to being shooter. Seems to play in the post, shoot from outside AND can drive. I agree with you Eman that we need a slasher. I think we can get that with our Lottery pick. But what if we traded a player for another 1rst round pick? For instance, we draft Burke and then we trade GV to someone like Dallas or Utah for their first and a second.
I remember last year when we're were really interested in Fournier. Demps has always shown interest in international prospects. Whether he pulls the trigger on one is another story.
According to Chad Ford's most recent mock he stated that 1 out of 3 teams very interested in Dario Saric are the Pelicans according to his sources.
Any info on this guy? He's supposed to have point forward skills. If we took him at 5 i would throw up, wonder if this means maybe we are working on a trade to get us a mid 1st round lotto pick?
looks like i was late on this one lol. thanks to the mods for moving it in here.
If we take him with our first pick I would be shocked, although if we could manage a pick inbetween 15-20 I would have no issue picking him up. Toni Kukoc mk 2??? I have heard some pretty good reports on the kid, he definitely holds his own in Europe for only a 19 year old. Draft express has some good analysis and video's up on him so maybe check them out.
Not to mention this kid is from the same small town in Croatia my dad is from Sibenik. Which is also the same town Drazen Petrovic was born and raised which my dad had the honour of playing against when he was a teenager.
Maybe I might bump into Saric when I travel down to Sibenik later this year.
Schroeder is moving up the boards. Draftexpress has him at 18 and Ford just mocked him at 23 while the crazier nbadraftnet mocked him at 12. He's rising up everyone's boards. And I'll say this again, his game is tailor-made for the american style of basketball.
I wouldn't mind Saric at 5 if McLemore, Oladipo, and Porter are off the board.
Can Saric guard NBA 3's?
Demos said in the phone intrerview something along that " international players are back". There was a time following the Pejas and Dirks of the league that a couple of high profile euro draft busts scared teams away from drafting euros but now it seems that most euros taken the past few years have been a hit... Fournier, Ibaka, Pekovic, Asik, Batum, montejunas, valancunas,Kanter. Euros are just more prepared at young age than north americans because they have been playing proffesional ball since they were 16 and before that attending basketball academy schools. Saric would a be a great pick. I would rather have him than Oladipo because Saric is incredibly skilled.
I mean I like him, but I don't think that he isn't the type of PG Monty and Dell want, and I think there are plenty of PG's that are gettable this offseason. Can't really say the same about SF's.
I mean I see the poll where people want Burke over Porter, and that's just funny. It doesn't matter how the draft falls, if Porter and Burke are available every single time we are up to pick then the pick will be Porter even if you redo the draft a hundred times.
You've got me intrigued... now please elaborate into the "type" that DelMonty want & exactly who the "plenty" are?
To preface, my ideal offseason would be signing Jennings (who Demps is in love with) and then drafting Bazz/Porter/Burke in that order and still signing someone like Budinger/Webster to bolster our 2nd unit. Although I would take Burke over Porter in a heartbeat b/c we aren't going to land a top flight talent next year barring a huge mishap (our record or a prospect sliding.)
schroeder is crazy fast/quick but may be too long term of a project for us to touch. also, killerhornets insight is worth consideration. i don't like saric's stats or athleticism. jean charles may be the best of these 3. he has good game awareness and plays hard.
the best foreign prospect is going to be Giannis Adetokunbo, who should declare next year. check him out, he's an 18 year old 6' 10 point guard
With regards to Schroeder. If we're rebuilding, isn't a high reward type project exactly what the doctor ordered?
I mean, a team that needs a productive point guard NOW needs to avoid him, but if we're not looking to make a power play for another season or two, wouldn't it make sense to roll the dice now?
What? I'd demolish a house with my bare hands if we drafted him. Just wonder how the notion is out of the question in general.
Because in the top-5, you have much more proven, high-upside prospects. Schroeder did alright in a crappy German league. That doesn't inspire much confidence... He has tools, sure, but he is raw as hell, and there are just many more questions with him compared to guys like Burke, Oladipo, McLemore, Noel, Porter, etc...
Again, 15 or later, and I'd be all for drafting him. Less risk in that section of picks, so you can go all potential, no substance.
