Trade Idea - Harrison Barnes - Eric Gordon

New Orleans gets Harrison Barnes, Richard Jefferson and 1st round Pick
Gold State gets Eric Gordon and Al-Farouq Aminu

Why Hornets do it: Get rid of Gordon's contract, get a small forward in Barnes with endless potential, offensively and defensively, avg 9-4.5-2.5. Extreme Athlete, great size and power, Great all around offensive game attacking the rim and full pull up jumpers. Could see him developing into a mix between paul george and Danny Granger.
Hornets also get a 10 million expiring in richard jefferson which will equal out gordon's contract financially and will allow us to sign pekovic and mayo. Hornets can now take the BPA in the draft, possibly Burke

GV/Burke
Mayo/Rivers
Barnes/Miller
Davis/Ryno
Pek/Lopez

Why the Warriors do it: They finally get rid of Jefferson's terrible contract and get a stud backcourt mate with Curry, Curry and Gordon would wreak havoc, along with David Lee they would give u all the offense you need, AFA and Bogut would provide GREAT rebounding and defense

I don't think they'd do it, but I gotta give u props for finally making a half way decent trade idea thread ;)

GS adding Gordon and Aminu would help them considerably on defense which is their only weakness. Plus they don't lose any offense. I'd like to add Grevis and get Jack back but that's prob just me.

EDIT:Just realized that Jeffersons contract doesn't expire until next year, so count me out. I'm no longer interested.

IDK with the team they have now they are good not great, a healthy curry, gordon and lee would be phenominal
Plus a they would have jack klay and landry off the bench, this improves their starting lineup and bench instantly. I think Golden State would be crazy NOT to make this trade.

Barnes + Thompson + Jefferson FOR Gordon + Smith

I think I would do that and I can understand why they might. Better trade idea than most.

Thanks, it saves them money and improves their starting lineup and bench taking them from a playoff team to a contender, it gives us enough cap to sign pekovic and we could luck out and land mclemore or shabazz and give rivers shabazz barnes davis time to develop they would be lethal i honestly like it for both teams

My bad im usual pretty honest about who i call very athletic, who did I say was that u dont agree with? Barnes had the fastest 3/4 court dash than anyone in the draft, even guards and put up an insane standing 40" vertical, thats a rediculous blend of size speed and jumping ability. One of his poster dunks on pekovic is up for dunk of the year.

I like your trades HG, but I just think they're too far in our favor. I don't think the other teams would do that, but I'd like to hope I'm wrong.

Also the warriors arent scared of injury prone players, they gave curry a huge deal, and traded for Bogut.

I see that lineup as a 2 or 3 seed for sure. Tons of depth and no log jams. Ability I run half court or transition. Makes them dangerous.

We would have a solid young 3 to grow with Davis. If we got shabazz or mclemore. We would have young studs at 2-4 with young growing big man in Lopez and solid leader pg in GV. But most importantly money to upgrade.

Hell we could get monta Ellis and have a sick 2-4

Can you please stop making all these assumptions along with a proposed move. The trade is decent, even though there is a very small chance the Warriors accept. But then you start throwing together our roster like its a definite that we're gonna get Pek, Mayo, and Burke. It's kind of infuriating. If you want to discuss your hypothetical trade I'm all for it, but leave out all the other assumptions.

I'm with Nola3, pick one player and switch him with the guy you propose we should acquire. Leave the rest of the lineup the same. I think it's better that wau.

Im not infatuated with Pek either. Sure hes decent, is the right age for our team, but he really doesnt do much outside the paint. It'll take 11mil+ first year to tempt the Wolves not to match and I'm not sure hes worth it. This is an era where big men are overpaid and under-contribute:

-Thunder dont have a dominant big
-Heat have no dominant big
-New York have Chandler but I wouldnt say hes dominant, they run Melo at the 4 coz it works better going small.
-Clippers have BG but again, hes not super big
-Dwight in LA is a flop

It makes you start to wonder if it's truly worth the 10mil+ for average output just to have a "big guy" on the team.

On Topic though: I don't see why the Warriors wouldn't do this, Barnes has a bright future but the Warriors future is kinda now. Klay is able to play SF so they'd be winners assuming Gordon stays healthy.

If you mean from a depth perception yeah it's a really strong roster. If you mean from contending roster no it's not close. Denver has been team oriented, deep bench team for a few years now and can't (and probably never as currently constructed) make a deep run.

IMO Klay Thompson is a much better fit for Curry than Gordon. In addition to the fact that 3 of players of that starting five can't stay healthy.

Yes I was talking about total depth, and I think gordon is a better fit, curry is a shooter, gordon is a driver, they compliment each other perfectly, and gordon's defense is incredible, klay's defense is atrocious.

da Throne stop being logical, we just want to get rid of Gordon, okay. Can't we just agree on that. The next sucker of a team that offers more than used toilet paper gets Gordon in my opinion.

Personally, I'd rather have a bad team with a bunch of cap space, then having a bad team with a "star" that could make this team good to great that can't play if he cut his fingernails too short. Not to mention the 58 million dollars.

Doesn't make sense. We have no reason to be forced to trade him right now. Unless he sustains another terrible injury I don't think his value goes any further south. I've always said we need to wait another year to see what happens.

I can tell you what happens. He gets a papercut between his toes, and can't play for 3 weeks. Book it. Start of next year he won't be dressing in Pelicans gear either because of injury or trade.

I'd bet against you, but it would be a bad bet. I'm just saying, if holding on to him possibly nets you equal or greater value, then I'd hold on to him.

I still think there is a chance his value goes even lower than it is now. Could you imagine if we trade Gordon going into the offseason with well over 20M in cap space. We can grab whoever we wanted.

Cp3 and Howard , the only 2 guys that deserve a max won't even look at us (sorry to the cp believes). Iggy? Max , no thanks. Pek for 11-13 a year no thanks.

A GM has to overpay for what he believes helps him win in the playoffs. You can't continue to offer low ball numbers and expect other teams with cap space to not out bid you. If we go that route, this rebuild will be a 5-8 year process instead of 2-4, until we get super lucky in the draft or free agency with players like Lopez and Anderson, but both of those players don't seem like the "Help me win in the Playoffs type players."

Ha i was about to say something similar. Unless dell was confident he could sign one or two studs in free agency there is not a reason to get rid of gordon. We'd basically be trading down for lesser players atm (and losing a draft pick in this or the next draft). Small markets are better served building through the draft. If we lose Gordon it might also make us a less attractive destination for free agents (as absurd as that sounds). We gotta have some veterans.

That's what in asking. Name a difference maker in this class that we have a legit shot at acquiring thats a "Help me win in the Playoffs type players". that we won't have to grossly overpay for ? If we can't find one, then what point is there to get rid of Gordon for nothing this year.

The reason to get rid of Gordon is his injury woes and his 58 million dollar contract. Do you like have a "star" player play 40 games and get paid 58 million dollars?


Last year Gordon with a salary of $3,831,184 made $12,358.66/MIN

This year with a salary of $13,668,750 aggregated to 65%(amount of season completed so far) is $8,884,687.5 or $16,731.99/MIN (531 minutes this year)

In contrast. James Harden makes same amount this year as Gordon. He has played 2026 Minutes and makes $6,746.67/MIN

Kobe Bryan makes $27,849,149 this year. Has played 2072 minutes and makes $13,440.71/MIN

Eric Gordon makes more money per Minute played than Kobe Bryant... that's the PROBLEM

True but we have a solid core of players. We would still have enough to sign a big time FA even with Gordon. Gordon is a huge risk, but we stand a better chance in games with him and aminu than klay and barne. This trade would make more sense if we were a big market team.

I understand your view completely. Getting rid of him now for these players whilst losing a draft pick is a potential step backwards. Everyone has a reason to be bitter with Gordon, but if we can get better value from him or he can get it together im willing to take that chance. I dont despise this trade; i just think its jumping the gun. Its one of those trades that can go either way really bc i could see both of these players being very good some day.

JJack, you make too much sense my dude. I sometimes think people want the Hornets to be a NBAD team. We just teach young guys NBA skills and when we think their trade value is at its highest, trade them for the next big name out there. Then we're back at square one. I see trades for Pek who is not an upgrade in my opinion. There are several Aminu trades for guys that are not even upgrades. That is crazy to me. Are we trying to get better or just fill our roster with popular named players? If we're not getting an impact player that can contribute today and make us better, it makes no sense to trade Gordon. The future is now. I'd rather build through the draft and add free agents to our core players.

They can keep klay and we will keep our pick. All I want is barnes

You guys keep killing him for not being on the bench. Kill him for the injuries. I get it, but as I've said before, I'm pretty sure he was either told or it was cleared by our management team. I think our fans have been completely off base about that assertion . Just like the rehab thing where People were pissed about him not staying here and it was later revealed that Dell allegedly was the one who told him to go. Not many of us have any blue what is and isn't being said behind closed doors.

Most certainly is a special talent and he can create well enough, people like paul george arent great at creating but decent enough, he's actualy having a better season than george did his rookie year and on par with george's 2nd year, plus like i said im hoping to draft shabazz or mclemore who can create for themselves.
