The 2008-09 Attendance thread {merged}

As we did last season, this is the one and only attendance thread we're going to have for the season. The reasons for limiting attendance discussions to this one thread are:

1) We want to focus on the team, the players, the game play, fan interaction, community involvement, etc. We don't want numerous threads obsessing over attendance, lack of sellouts, etc. and distracting from the focus of this board;

2) It serves no purpose to obsess over attendance/sellouts to the point of making oneself and others miserable;

3) When it comes to attendance/sellouts, all we, as fans, can do is go to the games and encourage others to go to the games;

4) It is the opinion of the site Admins and Mods that obsessing over attendance/sellouts without more is a distraction and hinderance to the success of the team and that we can have a greater effect on the success of the team by focusing on the team itself and discussing the team, the players, the games, the gameday experience, and the team's community activities amongst ourselves and with others. This is the purpose of this board.

We are not trying to prohibit discussion of attendance, we're just trying to keep it in perspective. Feel free to use this thread to brainstorm on ways to improve attendance, but just keep things in perspective and maintain a civil, rational discussion. As long as we, as fans, take care of business on our end, things will sort themselves out; until then, sit back, relax and enjoy the team.

Plenty of tixs still left for opener and Lakers game on 12th of this month. It seems that we are having trouble selling the Upper Level side court tickets. Maybe the Hornets should lower the prices on those....

I actually suspect (based on the sections that weren't full during preseason) that the upper corners and ends have the most tickets available.

Don't worry, games will either sell out or not. All you can do is go if you can and encourage others to go. Everything will sort itself out in the end.

We're not going to micromanage attendance again this year, are we?

OMG, the hornets are going to move to North Dakota.. They don't have a team yet! Guys, Walkup sales have always been strong in this area.. Look at last year. .Even our poorest attended games had about 5,000 walkups..

Listening to Sean and V during the last preseason game they said that about 1,500 were left for the home opener. I predict the walkups to snatch those up.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but none of the games were sold out before tip-off last season in the first half of the season so his should not be a surprise.

Not this again .... everything is going to be fine.

Bad attendance early last season was a result of fans not knowing the team was back to stay, All Star Weekend changed everything. If only 1500 tickets are available then that is great. Let's also remember that not that many NFL/NBA cities post high attendance numbers before Feb.

Either way we are going to be fine. We have a nice solid season ticket base and interest in the team is sky high.

Maybe they should just move. I am in KC at the moment. There are lots and lots of fields here. I haven't seen any buildings yet, or anything that really looks like a city, but I hear it does exist. Ah, this would be a nice place for them. I hear it gets very cold here in the winter time.

Haha. Same thing I thought first time I flew into KC. There IS a city there and it's nothing like YHT if you know what I mean. It's about 20 miles from the airport. The "happening" area is about 5 miles from downtown. It's called the Country Club Plaza...and of course it's nothing like Bricktown. ;)

Well, if you watch highlights, a lot of not so full arenas on opening night.. That includes OKC, the only highlight I saw was with about 7 min in the 3rd with a lot of empty seats.. they must have had a 2 for 1 down at the walmart or something that they all left.

one other thing I noticed.. The TP is giving the Hornets a lot of press. They have the win on the front page of nola.com! They didn't do that much last year, especially this time last year!

The first giveaway of the season needs to be a Hornets helmet as it seems the sky is falling... :rolleyes:

I watched the Warriors/Hornets game on League Pass tonight, it was an incredible game. The Hornets played with confidence, it was impressive to see the maturity on display tonight compared to last year. If this team stays healthy we are in very good shape.

The attendance tonight in Oakland was fine. I'm sure it was announced as a sell out but there were empty seats (lower bowl looked pretty full). Guess what? It means nothing. Those in attendance saw a great game against two playoff teams. New Orleans is already a head of the curve compared to last season, more season tickets are sold and the Hornets are a known hot team.

Even the almighty OKC failed to will their team to victory tonight in the first ever home opener due to scattered empty seats and fans that left early. :hihi:

I find it incredibly amazing that we are discussing attendance and the Hornets are #8 out of 30 teams in the NBA in season ticket sales. Somebody pinch me if I'm wrong, but, isn't this discussion completely ridiculous???

Yes it is ridiculous.

Then again I can hardly blame anyone, last season every single media outlet reported more on attendance than the actual team. Everyone should get a 1 week grace period, after that the attendance nonsense needs to end.

Where'd you find out we're 8th in season ticket sales?

Im for closing this thread and banning the next person who tries to start its replacement.

Exactly. Everyone needs to relax, enjoy the start of the season, support the team, and everything will be fine. This team is solid. People will want to go see a good team play. Just remember that it is still football season, and down here that is all many people focus on until Jan/Feb.

I was talking to a friend of mine last night. During football season, I'll watch the Hornets during the week. I could barely stay awake at the end of last night's game.

Did you get LP this season? I got it again and supposedly we can access NBA Broadband which gives you access to every game and you can choose your announcers. Pretty cool.

Game had nothing to do with it. Tired and stuck on central time. I really should have just recorded it and watched it later. But I made it. Plus I had been drinking earlier. ;)

I know what you mean. I was just having a little fun. I like to know the attendance too, even though I'm not worrying about it. At least if it's not a sellout people can still watch on tv.....ok, well some people in the area can still watch on tv.

WWL-TV had a segment last night that the Wall Street blues could impact ticket sales and the Hornets financially.

Then I open the T.P. to see they have that graph again.

Minimum Wednesday night attendance: 15,700 (will probably be a lot more due to walk-up crowd)

No, seriously, I favor keeping the attendance thread up, for a head-to-head comparison of OKC attendance to ours. Does it really matter? No, not really. I just want the raw, hard, cold facts exposed and driven home for all to see.

According to the Cavs announcers the game was sold out and the fans did a good job supporting the team. They even had a lengthy discussion about how much has changed in terms of attendance with New Orleans.

When the same media personalities that questioned the market early last season are saying that stuff now ... then it's a dead issue.

Does the sellout streak come to an end tonite?

Unfortunately I think so, the Hawks, even though they are a playoff team, still arent a big draw. And it's a Wednesday. I would love to be proved wrong though.
