Cool... I'm onboard with Gentry and Hoiberg. Wouldnt' mind Thibs but I was hoping for Gentry or Hoiberg.
I do not want Gentry. He is a bit older and has never really done anything as a HC.
He's got experience. I'd love to add him to our staff. But I doubt he'd go from being on assistant head coach to be another team's.
Well it is a coach that Benson won't have to fork out a lot of money.
wouldnt mind gentry. He is a damn good coach who got a raw deal in Phoenix. I really want Hoiberg or Atkinson more, but Gentry is third on my list of wants. WOuld be a huge upgrade over Monty regardless.
I'm ok with Gentry. I think he has been around long enough to know the importance of good assistants.
No he is definitely not joking. Wasted an hour last night arguing with him that Benson is cheap. I would love to now one time Benson has been cheap in the past decade. Guy has donated millions to Tulane for a new stadium. One of the highest paid coaches in sports with Payton along with expensive d coordinators and staff in the upper management offices. All the sudden he is going to be cheap though for the most important hire in Pelicans history that in return will be our best chance at keeping Davis who without we are a bottom feeder in this league giving away season tickets. No facts to back it up just pure speculation and taking Gerry Vs words like he is speaking for the owner.
Party like it is 2003-2004?

Gentry was tabbed as the "perfect fit" for the Thunder by no less an NBA authority as the great Bill Simmons and the legendary Zachary Lowe. If he's good enough for OKC in their eyes than he'd be good enough for our beloved Pellies. Plus his style of play would be much more fun to watch (and fun for the guys on the team) than Thibs'
I would think that Gentry might mean no Asik long-term. Doesn't he prefer an up tempo pace? That's my main reason for not wanting Thibs is that his style of bball is kinda boring and he'd probably want to keep Asik around longer term.
When you apply to college you want to make sure you apply by the recommended deadlines, even if the school is only your "safe" school. Ya' mean?

335 Wins, 370 Losses .475
Tell me how this is any better than Monty!
Anybody who thinks Gentry is the leading candidate is smoking something. He is "a" candidate not "the" candidate. This is a big hire and Gentry is going to be coaching somewhere, you need people who are on the fence to throw their hat into the candidacy. This is just a domino falling people. Relax and let it play out.
Chicago wants Gentry if they can get Hoidberg we just putting a little pressure on Chicago to unload Thibs because that's who we really want .

I have been on the Gentry bandwagon since day 1. I think he can bring a lot to this team as well as a gameplan to upset the warriors and **** on his old team.
For the 1000th time, anybody using record as a sole reason for or against a candidate is just lazy IMO. Dig deeper. You guys can start here if you want. Plus there is plenty more info on the inter webs. Anybody can just point to a record. Let's all step our games up and bring more to the table. With our collective efforts, we can post a lot on all these candidates

I see a lot of positives in Gentry, and like him more than George Karl, but I have a similar concern - How long can Gentry coach?
I know it might be limiting my scope too much, but I want a guy who can be with AD the next 10-15. And I think there are a lot of coaches who are both great and younger.
Hoiberg had a top 5 team in the NCAA this past season and they always came out flat - even in the NCAA tourney. I feel like if you can't motivate a bunch of college kids (several of whom have NBA hopes) you might really have a hard time with an NBA roster.
But I dunno, maybe the opposite would actually be true.
To dismiss a candidates past record is ludicrous as well like bringing in Tim Floyd to coach. Let's see he had the worst record percentage in the NBA when he was hired in New Orleans.
Anyone less than Calipari or Thibs was a waste in firing Monty. That's my opinion.
How does a top 5 team always come out flat? Go look at the offensive #s his team puts up I wouldn't call anything about that flat. What team in the NCAA tournament doesn't have players with NBA "hopes"? Because he has lost in the NCAA tourney with less talent than just about everybody in it means nothing. Give him some top 10 recruiting classes and lmk what his team looks like. I don't think he has had a problem with motivating his team or them coming out flat is just a poor argument. The coming out flat argument being a good team in the NCAA tournament and getting knocked out can be made for every single coach in the history of college basketball.
Has this "Benson is cheap" meme still not died? The dude is one of the most aggressive owners in the NFL and I don't see any sign that he's not equally aggressive with the NBA side of things (probably too aggressive - we should have had a slightly slower, more sustained approach with this rebuild IMO).
He's a top 10 owner in the NFL and probably in the NBA as well. He doesn't meddle and is willing to spend money when it makes sense.
Haha it was a joke. I do not by for one second that Benson is cheap or will be cheap in this hire. If we want a coach and he cost 8 million we will pay the price. Not saying that's what we want but I have no reason to believe in anyway that we won't pay whatever it cost to get the man we want.
If we hire Gentry I will be bummed big time

If my memory serves me right, Iowa State faced double degit deficits each game of the Big 12 tourney and had to pull magic out of their butts to come back and win the whole thing. They went on to lose to the UAB BLAZERS. Hoiberg is a relatively young coach, but he's not ready for the NBA IMO.
As for Thibs. sounds like money will be the issue. Orlando ready to cough it up. Compensation could be issue as well.
For those thinking potential Thibs compensation: Pelicans don't have '15 first (Asik), can't trade '16 first unless they acquire another.
