I know Charles Lee was the early favorite, but Vaughn is someone I thought had a better shot. I prefer Lee, but apparently Vaughn is gaining some momentum.

Windhorst. I would think he is a backup candidate if others (i.e. Lee) turn down the job. I would hope he would be no higher than 3rd or 4th on our list, but with the Langdon connection, could be our #2 choice.
Seems like it's down to Lee or Vaughn
Can anyone fill me in on Vaughn ? I don’t remember him as being special as a player and has always been sub .300 as a head coach.
Started on the Popovich coaching tree
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacque_Vaughn
I hope it's Lee. He worked on Wall Street which is essentially a sales job and the one attribute I'm hyping for is someone who can motivate i.e., sell. He also has been part of the best defensive team in the league. Hes young, former college HOF for Bucknell who upset Kansas. Was recruited as a player by Sam Presti when he was with the Spurs but ultimately played overseas. Overall it's a high upside hire.
With Ime Udoka I understood the attraction, and though he always seemed destined to the Celtics he would have been my favorite. Vaughn being with Pops one season as a talent scout is good but doesn't really move the meter for me. Lee has his position with the Bucks thanks to his relationship with the head coach who seems to be barely keeping his job and may lose it if the Hawks overcome the Bucks.
Billups might be available , if not Hammon seems much more the Pops protege than Lee. If neither of those are available and you are looking for a salesperson I would rotate back to Spoon who seems to have the ear and respect of our two superstars and Kira and other young players. Who else is available ?
Shamit likes him for some reason
There you have it. Ties with Trajan. Grif failed with his hire now it’s Trajan’s turn
After talking to some NBA folks I trust.

I’d rank Pelicans head coaching candidates (right now) as follows:
1. Jacque Vaughn
Ties to Trajan Langdon, very ready for another shot after Orlando
2. Chauncey Billups
NOLA has interest if he doesn’t get Portland job
3. Charles Lee pic.twitter.com/JMWS6WHwop
I don't think Bud has done a great job in the playoffs in general and has not used the Greek Freak in a successful way and he is close enough to Zion in style to make me nervous there. If Lee was attached to a head coach I liked and respected that would be another thing. Its not that I hate Bud, he has just been a regular season king but playoff pauper. If the Nets had any heal th at all he would have suffered another early playoff loss this year. The Bucks should have dominated a limping Harden, no Kyrie team.
Fletch's "sources" are twitter and instagram. He also stated previously that his sources told him Spoon was very much in consideration, right after he aired and interview with Griffin saying basically she was not. So, I guess his "sources" know more than the person making the hire.
If that was what she was hanging her hat on yes, most definitely. With Spoon we know she has reached our current core and has helped their development and one interview specifically mentions improving Zion's game. That ability , to reach young players and make a positive improvement, to inspire and lead them attracts me. I am nervous that she is new to the men's side of the NBA but she is a HOF player herself and has head coaching experience in other Basketball leagues.
Lee never made it to regular NBA season games and later became part of Bud's staff. If someone could link to interviews were he was inspiring / relating to / improving the game of / earning the respect of younger NBA players, especially Jrue, Giannis, or even better Zion , Ingram, Hayes, NAW etc then that would be a big mark up in his favor. If he was the defensive mind behind the Bucks that would be a big one as well. I have read one snippet from Kevin Arnovitz where he praises everything you could about Lee but I don't know if it is a fluff piece or not.
I am not trying to be passive aggressive and shoot down candidates by saying has anyone heard anything and implying there is nothing to be heard. I am just openly interested in learning about them, with references from as many first hand sources as possible. Grabbing Lee because we was an assistant with a wildly successful regular season NBA program has me seeing visions of a less successful Gentry. There has to be more to it.
Hire a defensive minded HC, and hire Jahmal (sp?) Mosley from Dallas as an assistant to install Carlisle's offense.
How Jacque Vaughn has turned the depleted Nets into an offensive forcehttps://t.co/GMSnQ863jd

In what way are Gentry and Vaughn similar as people, in the locker, and with x's and o's - very curious to hear the answer to this https://t.co/kKbGQSR96C

Best way to see this is to look at the Bubble Nets who went 5-3 starting Levert, Tyler Johnson, Joe Harris, Lance Thomas, and Jarret Allen. He came into the Bubble with a plan for a healthy roster that he scrapped immediately and adapted to who was available. https://t.co/4x4WCxLMAn

What should I be looking for? He seems to have one source who said he would be a good hire and since then he seems to be trying to prove it to his followers by ignoring his record and focusing on what the source told him about how he forges relationships. That is certainly something the team needs, someone who can relate to the players. I have not seen him say he is the favorite, although could have missed it.
Give me Chauncey billups hes the next juwan howard
Sit on your hands, Griff.
Make a move. So we can complain about it.
We're gonna screw this up again, aren't we?
Griffin really wants to go to Seattle, doesn't he?
There was a reason he didnt hire anybody yet. That reason has now passed and the team has focused in on two guys. No clue which way he is leaning. I would say Lee was the heavy favorite coming into this, but Vaughn has closed the gap. Might come down to thier assistants they can each pull. Whats funny is that I know both have reached out to the same guy about one of the spots (coach named Ott, they both worked with). So, we should know in the next week or so. The thing Griff was waiting to see has been seen and he can now move forward
Good to know. Full disclaimer my comment was making fun of the previous comments about sitting on hands. Like there’s not a process occurring in the countless phone and Zoom and in person interviews we don’t see. Even if y’all eventually won't like the move anyways.
I like the fact that both have come to terms with the modern athlete. And arent going to coddle them, but are willing to meet them half way and not just force old school on them. Something Vaughn admitted to trying to do in Orlando, and something he learned from.
I wont pretend to know which one will be better, but I do know that both will vibe better with the players and probably with a staff of TSpoon, Corey Brewer, and others who will be on the same page with the HC, moreso than they were last year when they played good cop to SVG's bad cop
I hope this isn't actually part of their decision making process. You shouldn't eliminate candidates based on the color of their skin. period.
And it's not like Stan was someone backwards guy either that the Pelicans need to move away from, he's more outspoken than anybody.
Not his first choice. But if a superstar wants a guy and that team not hiring the guy could make the superstar want out....wouldnt you wait to see how that plays out? If a coach that I already like can get a superstar to put my team on his demand list, I would wait to see how that all plays out. Especially if my other two candidates arent being offered other jobs. Whats the rush?
Zion and his parents have no clue who Vaughn or Lee are. Would have no opinion. Its the organization as a whole they are dissuaded by. Almost every major decision, they have disagreed with. Time for some correct decisions to be made, and then you hope they have an open mind, which it sounds like Zion does. Cant speak for his parents
Winning cures all, just like production does in sales. Get a good coach, get some talented players, win games.
If we can be patient because no one else is looking at our top two choices when so many positions opened up should that not be a red flag ?
I'm guessing it's that they disagreed with hiring SVG. Disagreed with trading Jrue & JJ (buy out JJ instead). Disagreed with holding Zion out so much his rookie year for injury fears. Disagreed with trading for Adams to clog the paint and maybe to keep Bledsoe in the starting lineup.
For Billups, sounds like Lillard wanted Billups and the Pelicans signing him as their head coach could potentially get Lillard to want to be traded to New Orleans... so instead, Portland quickly signed him. Probably can cross off Lillard from the list of tradable players this offseason.
I will say I find it interesting how Dallas wasted no time in appointing a coach. But they did hire Kidd who a lot of people say is a huge kent.
I also kind of hate Billups so good on you Portland.
Lee or Vaughn is great with me, I'm way more happy about either of these guys than frickin SVG
Idk, I don't think you are giving players enough credit. Thibs had success and is probably less on paper relatable than SVG. It's an easy scapegoat to say SVG failed to reach players because of things he can't change, the reality is team chemistry is a complicated mix of personalities that you can't fully quantify reasons why players don't respond to their coach. Sometimes they respond sometimes they don't.
I think SVG's attitude deserves a lot of the blame, but JJ quitting on him before the season even started and Bledsoe shortly after that didnt help. Not even going to speculate what the hell was going on with Ingram.
Really? I was asked what coaches I like of the names I “heard” and I named them. Sorry I wasn’t aware of their history I didn’t read the news when I was 7/8yrs old. I don’t support Those things … but if this the route y’all wana come at me… say less https://t.co/N1GPkX3Ohd
