Here's one idea that Michael Pellissier -- Bourbon Street Shots (BSS) writer -- and I talked about on twitter. Currently, the Rockets are viewed as the Howard favorites. We have to assume that Morey will target a stretch PF -- like Anderson. With that in mind, I feel like this trade would be very beneficial for both teams.

Parsons + Asik for Anderson + Darius Miller trade.

Question is, would you do it? A trade like this would mean the Rockets will have Harden, Anderson and Howard for a total of ~41 million. Add Lin's contract and 3 rookie contracts and they'll have around 4 million in cap space to work with. A Harden/Anderson/Howard is going to be dynamite -- it'll surely be an incredibly fit trio, TBH. Houston can then target a SF with their non-tax payer's midlevel (since they'll probably not reach the apron).

For the Pelicans, we can then draft Burke and then roll out a lineup of Vasquez/Gordon/Parsons/Davis/Asik w/ Burke/Smith/Roberts/Rivers/Miller as a bench... not too shabby and a lineup that I think can challenge for a 6~8 spot. If Burke develops, we'll have a potentially GREAT starting five with a solid bench.

I like the ultimate lineup, but I hate giving up Anderson and having to "rely" on Smith as the backup PF. I assume you keep Lopez too? You didn't mention him. I'll put another twist on this, do this trade but add some sweetener to include Robinson, who they want to dump anyway. That would make me more comfortable in our front court depth.

We could draft a PF.

Absolutely not.

EDIT: And anyone who says Roberts, Rivers, and Smith is a solid bench is kidding themselves.

I can't wait till the draft is over so we have a definitive idea of what we are going to do in the offseason.

Literally the only reason you don't make this trade is because you'd be very concerned about that Rockets core at 41 mil. That creates an absolute beast in your own division for the next 3-5 years. Anderson and Howard work so well together, whereas Asik would almost certainly need to be moved anyway and they'd be hard pressed to get anything close to a fit like Ryno for him.

Clearly the value of Parsons/Asik is much greater than Anderson/Miller, so no question its a win on paper. But facilitating the almost perfect Houston lineup might not be worth the obvious trade benefits. I'd still do it though. Parsons has the best contract in the NBA, and Asik is a perfect pairing for AD. Gotta worry about your own lineup first and foremost.

I would have to do it, Asik is one of the best rebounding and defensive centers in the game, not to mention parson's is the perfect guy to put next to gordon and burke since he can knockdown the 3 or drive, not to mention he's an awesome rebounder and passer, draft burke, holy cow

Golden State is also trying to sign Howard. What if they called and offer us Bogut, Thompson & Jefferson for Gordon, Lopez & future 2nd.
Once they release Lopez they would free up around 13.8 mil to sign Howard. Which would give them a starting 5 of
Howard, Lee, Barnes, Gordon, Curry

For the 2013-14 The Pelicans would have a nice starting 5 with 2 large expiring contracts for Summer 2014.

agree, u make ur team better at all costs, u never know, dwight could blow out his knee and its all over and u missed out on a great core team because u didn't want help them but u actually didnt hlep urself. I'd do it. and it seems like a possibility as well.

Hmmm, this is one of the few trade idea posts that are really considerable for me. I'd go for it. Asik lets Davis develop as a PF for the next few years which is crucial for him in the early years, I think. Parsons is a super-perfect fit on a great contract. Solves our need for a shooting, slashing, defending starting SF there, and we could still re-sign Aminu as a great back-up where he can focus on his rebounding and transition at full speed & power coming off the bench like Jason Smith does.

The original trade idea is good, no need to include our pick this year. That would def be a deal-breaker from the Pelicans' perspective. And I think any talk of CP3 returning to the New O team is irrelevant and not worth it. Both sides have moved on, I think and are better for it. Also, echoing Purple Haze's view that there's no need to let Lopez go. Great player and guy on a great contract who'd thrive even more in a backup role. And the concerns about helping the division rival make a potential powerhouse core with Harden-Dwight-Anderson...I echo Ogden Park's view that you have to worry about your own team first and foremost. A core of Davis-Burke-Parsons-Gordon (healthy, stronger from his injury recoveries) and a great bench creates a full solid team ready to compete now and for the future.

that team is sick, plus asik doesnt have nor rely on any athleticism at all so u dont have to worry about his play getting worse, he will be productive for a long time, he's just a strong banger, kind of like noah, he has about 4-5 more good years in him.

Harden, Howard, Anderson will be sick.

But we would have an opportunity to be a baby spurs if everyone devlops

burke gordon parsons davis asik has everything, the scorer, the passer, the rebounder, the shooter, the defender, very well rounded team.

Certainly the trade makes sense for us if we're strictly sticking to the first scenario. But if we also have to trade our sixth pick to seal the deal, I would be completely against such a move.

Anderson and Miller for Asik and Parsons wouldn't be enough by itself for HOU. I feel that they would insist on grabbing our 6th pick too, making such a scenario unforeseeable.

I would give them next year's first as well.

If we're trading with Houston I'd like to also grab Jones, somehow. I like his game.

My answer to the OP question: yes, I would definitively do it.

Do not want Asik and his contract.
I'd rather just be patient and draft a 'Parsons' instead of having to give up Anderson to do so.

Good luck drafting a 'Parsons' if this was a 2014 1st round pick, would you do it??

Anderson + unprotected 2014 1st for Asik + Parsons.

I think that's a MUCH better scenario.

Burke/Gordon/Parsons/Davis/Asik, worst case scenario (i.e. Gordon misses a lot of time again) will net a 10th to 12th pick. I think that SHOULD be worth it.

Yes, waive Lopez... if we can get CP3. Again the timeline...

On draft day, we draft Burke
Before July 1, Anderson + 2014 unprotected 1st for Parsons + Asik. We also waive Lopez (we go all-in on bringing Paul back).

If we don't get CP3, it's fine. We'll still have Vasquez and Burke to man the point.

Couple things:

•While the Rockets may want a stretch four, I definitely don't think they'd want Anderson's contract. Asik and Parsons for Anderson is literally a lateral move, financially. The Rockets aren't trying to trade laterally, they're trading to clear cap, because they'll probably want Paul too.

•I hate making our rivals so freaking good.

•I personally like Anderson way too much to make this trade.

Guess I'm in the minority but there's just something about Asik I don't like. Yes, Parsons is on a great contract and is a great role player, but I just don't like Asik enough to give up Anderson. I think there's better value out there somewhere.
