Anthony Davis leads all players in the race for MVP. Its real folks, if Davis can keep up his amazing production and Pelicans can win ( only 2-2 atm) we might have an MVP in New Orleans.

KLAY THOMPSON
John wall??? He is so overrated. Kyle lowry is making him look so bad tonight .
This really is awesome and a perfect year for him to grab 1. Lots of stars hurt with Lebron having other stars around him hurting his case. If the Pelicans can make the playoffs and AD continues his play and can mostly fight the injur bug just missing a few games here and there has a huge chance of winning. The Pelicans making the playoffs would be portrayed by the media as being all AD which a large part is and would be. Such a big record turnaround in the toughest conference being even a last seed it would be all his.
It's pretty amazing how great his numbers look considering we haven't even done a great job revolving the offense around him these first games.
I'm as big of a fan as anyone of AD's but you can't be an MVP if your team loses whether you play or not. Until AD can take this team over .500 and keep it there, he's no MVP. An MVP on a losing/.500 team is preposterous IMO. It doesn't matter what the numbers are.
Crazy numbers for a 21 year old
I know everyone here is excited about it and all but you know that part of the reason for this is that national writers still think there is nothing good around him. They probably think that AD is winning in spite of the players around him.
If he gets the mvp they can think he's playing with hamas terrorists around him and i won't care one bit :hihi:
If you can watch Currys highlights against Houston tonight.
The release on his three is pretty much unguardable.
And some of dem moves, bah God.
Steph Curry is number one at this point.
Curry is in god mode. But this is great for ADs confidence.
I don't think AD will win just for the simple fact that the MVP tends to go to the best player on one of the best teams. And while I think this team is good and will get better. I don't think this team is top 3-5 good.
Two different things here:
Can he win MVP?
Can he be the best player in the NBA this season?
The MVP is not possible. Being the best player in the NBA this season is a possibility.
keep it up AD! :D
Maybe not impossible but highly unlikely.
It took me going back to 1998-1999 to find an MVP that wasn't on a team with a top 2 seed in their conference. And that was Karl Malone on the 3 seeded Jazz. It took me going back to 1981 and Moses Malone to find a MVP that was seeded lower then that(6).
History suggests that Davis would need to have the Pelicans in the top 2-3 in the West to win it.
Do you think that is likely to happen this year? I'm optimistic for our team but not crazy.
Exactly. You need a top 4 or 5 record in the NBA. That is not possible for this team IMO.
But there is a small chance he can be the best player in the league this year, especially if the Cavs manage Lebron's minutes as expected. But MVP is always from a top team.
You don't need a top 4 or 5 record in the league its not part of the criteria, history suggests so but has history had a western conference this tough before? Who says that if Pelicans hold the 6th seed in the West with 50+ wins, that AD doesn't get MVP? Pretty much every finger will be pointing at him, and if he doesn't he will be deemed as being "robbed" of the award.
You can go on what ifs, and yeah I guess it is possible, but I will go with history. History is meant to be broken and all that, but the best way to predict the future is to look to the past and the past says winning MVP without a top 4 or 5 overall record is wishful thinking
Not surprised his PER is insane.
