Poor post defense is a lot harder to overcome than point guard defense. I love Anderson, but this is silly.
Vasquez was a big problem on that end. As was Anderson and Lopez's lack of foot speed. As was the team's youth. As was the fact that Davis, for as great as he projects to be defensively, was largely clueless. As was the fact that our shooting guards were out of shape (Gordon), young and clueless (Rivers) or simply porous defensively (Mason). And the fact that we packed the paint and let teams rain threes on us to cover all of these issues.

Next Vasquez, defensively.
why would the clippers trade bledsoe for affalo when they could get more for him?
I hope Bledsoe goes to the magic. I would welcome the kid on our team, but i also grow weary of all the trade rumours that surround him.
I think GMs probably have more respect for Afflalo than fans not in Orlando will. He pretty much bullied Gordon all over the court. He is just reaching his prime and would pair nice with CP3. Bledsoe conversely is a bit overrated. Trade sounds about fair with maybe a few added non player pieces.
Yes, our defense had many issues. But it all started on the perimeter.
Saying poor post D is harder to overcome than poor PERIMETER D (you can't generalize one and not the other) is simply not true. Talk about silly. It is 10x easier to double in the post than the perimeter, there are far more ways to compensate post D, and not to mention the striking lack of quality low post scorers in the league.
Shane Battier is playing significant minutes at PF for the best team in the NBA. SHANE BATTIER.
Zach Randolph and David West (both mediocre) are the starting PF's for the two best defenses in the NBA this season.
How do these 3 teams, 3 of the final 4, get away with it? Primarily with elite perimeter defense (and a good rim protector helps too obviously, which we have in AD). Assuming AD improves to an A level defender, you can have a mediocre one next to him. You simply cannot compensate for a bad primary perimeter defender as easily. It destroys your schemes.
For us to be a contender we need one of two things: a top 5 player (or 2) or a top 5 defense. We don't have the former obviously, so we should focus on the latter. Burke, or any other PG that cannot apply effective, physical ball pressure (wut) and guard the pick and roll well is not an ingredient for a championship caliber defense. He'll make our offense a little better, provide some intangibles, and keep us from being an elite defensive team. Not interested.
I think he makes our offense significantly better because he can get out into transition much faster then finds players for easy baskets and the ability to take care of the ball. Those two things alone are what kill Vasqeuz. Even if as you suggested all he does is play the passing lane that's even a upgrade over Greivis defensively. We are questioning Burke's ability to stay in front of the top end of the quickest PG. We know Vasquez can't stay in front the bottom of the leagues PG. That in itself is a significant upgrade.
David West is anything but a mediocre defender. He's improved alot the last 3 seasons. He's become a very good defender. Saying he's a mediocre defender is an ignorant comment.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who is NOT high on Burke!
I'm more interested in why you're not high on him, his defense?
