Getting rid of Monty in the middle of the season would be the dumbest possible decision this organization could take at the moment. I haven't been happy with him at all, but all the blame for this team's struggles shouldn't be all on him. This team is still a work in progress and hasn't even played 10 games with our core team available yet. I'm far from a Monty fan, but getting rid of him now would be a huge blow to this team and would make other potential coaches look the other way possibly. I know I wouldn't be to thrilled to join a team that fired its head coach this early in a season with a lot of new pieces added in the offseason. Now if we don't start to right the ship and are not even close to the playoffs, then yes I'm all for getting rid of him AFTER the season. Especially if our pick ends up being like top 5 and the 76ers end up getting a game changing player in the draft. If that happens, I will be extremely upset with Monty and hope Demps gets rid of his buddy. Now Demps needs to stay for sure cause I love probably 80% of the moves he makes. I loved getting Reke, Ryno, Morrow, and Lopez. I like the trades he made to get Jrue, Smith, Vasquez, Jack, and even Henry. I like the CP3 trade, but wish we could of gotten Gordon and Bledsoe instead of Gordon, Aminu, and Kaman. I hated the 2nd Jack trade cause we got absolutely nothing for him. And I wish we would of signed an Earl Clark type of small forward this year instead of Aminu, but you can't get every move right.
I hope we go after George Karl cause I love his offense and this team is built to be a dynamic offensive team. Jerry Sloan or Lionel Hollins would be other options as well.
What do you want?
Fire Monty now
Fire Monty after the season if we don't improve
If we fire Monty, what would you want?
Hire one of the top ex-NBA coaches and which one?
Hire a top NBA assistant coach
or
Hire a top college coach and who would you want?
I agree with you Primetime Very well thought of post. I just question some decisions by Monty. Decided to rant here rather than start a new thread. Debating with M.M. was pretty cool and I respect his views. There was no need to have Davis out there that late in the game. Announcers seem to wonder that too.
Agreed. There were definitely things to be worried about in Jazz and Cavs games, yet 90% of comments were positive, and the phrase "best win of the season" seemed commonplace.
I still think our best basketball came in a loss - home against Indy. Wins and losses are easy measuring sticks, but they are inaccurate, as they depend on another party in a lot of ways. Judge the team, coaches, system, etc. independent of the score, in all cases.
I agree. It is illogical to think firing Williams now will improve this season even if we brought in Phil Jackson. There's barely enough time to properly game plan from one game to another let alone time to tweak a coaches system to his player and than implement that system. Those things are done in the offseason. So we might as well give Monty to about around the All-star break before making a solid evaluation. If the team is underperforming and not legitimately in the playoff race than we can talk about firing him.
The IQ of this forum has gone up in a year.
We have:
-Spare time NBA coaches
-Spare time M.D.s
-Spare time PTs
-Spare time NBA GMs
-Spare time Psychologist
-Spare time Mind readers
-Spare time Scouts
-Spare time Fortune Tellers
-Ex NBA players
And to prove how smart we are, we do all of this in our spare time. Good job guys.
That's nothing. Go on the Mavs,Rockets or Lakers forums. One thing we can agree on is that people are starting to slowly lose patience. Benson says he wants to win now and he is not getting any younger. Have you seen the December schedule? After the 13th there is not another home game til the 27th. I want Monty to make it through Jan.
While individually this is true as a collective we have a ton of clot. We buy the tickets, watch the games, and buy the merchandise. While you already know I agree that all the firing talk is way too premature. The collective opinion of the fan base can't and usually isn't ignored.
You know if they are doing chalk talk again this season? I enjoyed Dell talks and him taking our questions.
I'm sorry, this is baseless.
When Anderson came back, the rest of the team basically held their 3 attempts constant, and Ryno added his.
The offense stayed the same . . . he didn't push anyone out of their role when Ryno was out (short term) and did not have to readjust when Ryno came back, and the numbers show it.
Do not confuse the causation. Ryno's 3's were missed, people complained. They came back, people stopped. The threes were the cause in both cases, not the effect in either.
For the fans to have clout they have to show a trend of not supporting the team (or product) and last I checked, our ST #'s are up. Now I doubt they're to the level they say they're at, but regardless the fans as a whole are buying in to Dell's moves. I'm one of those fans and don't think it's time to panic. It's common though when a small subset of people feel passionate about an issue and vocalize it (more than the people who are indifferent or are in favor of the current solution) it makes it seem like it's a bigger issue than it is. I mean what, 20-25 people on this forum are saying Monty needs to be fired. 5 saying Dell needs to be fired and now it's mainstay.
While more than a squirrel fart, the bulk of the teams' revenue is not tied to the passionate core fanbase directly. It's the masses that buy merch on whims, support the NBA generally, and are influenced by advertising.
Most revenue sources are clueless about the finer points of the team and the game, just like Saints fans who watch the games, buy some merch, and yak at work in a small talk sense.
How many games do you think we win in December? This is an important game tonight. Must get the wins while we can!
Doing two radio sports shows, I can attest to the feelings of fans, that care to call in, are fairly similar to here. Most want Monty out, others don't. But some of the others just want us to bring in Avery Johnson, so...
Real glad we all don't have a say in decisions.
Of course the random fan has little understanding of the inner workings. However they do understand winning and losing. We aren't a patient society anymore. Guy who doesn't know jack about jack will still be calling for the head of the coach/GM if "his" team is unsuccessful. Especially when said team has put certain expectations on itself.
Best!!!
You realize the insanity of the analogy is exactly the point, right?
The score is, when a title is not on the line, merely a useless, or worse than useless, meaningless, or worse than meaningless, distraction.
Question of the night. Which player could cost Monty his job? You may use tonight as an example.
George Karl would be a great fit
I said he needed to go 3 years ago and got flamed for it, finally people realize.
Lol fans only giving coaches a few months before their mind is made up, how charming is that?
It isn't a few months. He was given the benefit of the doubt when he had less talent. With higher expectations, people will be more harsh. Personally, I don't think Monty's coaching style (at least what we have seen so far) is productive with our players. He has continuously made questionable decisions with his rotations. I'm not going to point out all of the major flaws with him, but I believe most of the people calling for his head aren't just judging off of this season. I personally never understood the widespread praise he was given. To be honest, he has given me no reason to consider him one of the best young coaches in the league.
