1st impression was bad... he was pretty poor at the start of the season... but he has shown some real real good development lately... very encouraging

So, again, not trying to bash Vasquez, but he is only doing well because of Monty's system. Throw Roberts in the mix, and he gets 18 assists in his 1st start at PG. We need to capitalize on Vasquez's value this summer before it all goes downhill. Definitely not saying Roberts is the answer though...
Darius Miller ;)
This is what I'm thinking exactly! I hope his improvement is due to his development, and not just that he was being guarded by Andre Miller for half the game. But he looked good tonight, not enough for me to say he should take GV spot, but I'm excited to see what he does Wednesday! He drop double digit assists and can stay in front of CP3? Then we got something.
This wasn't Roberts first start at PG. The last game gordon missed he started at PG and Vasquez at SG.
You'd be silly to say that Roberts' assist look the same as Vasquez's. Vasquez's assist are great in numbers, but they are not a product of good ball movement. More like: ball hog then pass to a shooter. lol
All I gotta say is that is the best ball movement I've seen from the team since the very beginning of the season.
It's pretty well documented that 75% of the board recognizes Vasquez's defensive deficiencies by now also. Roberts played fantastic D all night and kept the ball handler out of the lane and what a difference it makes.
At one point, the FT deficiency was 9:35 Nuggets and we held a double digit lead all game pretty much.
But even when Roberts started at "PG," Vasquez still ran the show. This was Roberts' first time to actually dominate the ball for a whole game, and his numbers surpassed Vasquez's numbers. Small sample, obviously, and I agree with your premise that Vasquez's numbers come from "ball hog then pass to a shooter." That's pretty much exactly how it goes, and Roberts is proof that anyone can succeed with that method haha.
Where are the Vasquez fanboys?!?!
:hihi:
I wonder if they will rest Greivis Wednesday and ride the momentum from this win
WOOOOOO
UNO Gracias very mute tonight...
Roberts did a great job tonight.
Do you guys remember that time Matt Flynn started that game for the Packers last year, and had that amazing game. It netted him a huge contract with the Seahawks, and all the while people were wondering if it was just the system that caused Flynn's amazing game, and not that Flynn was the next great thing. But then Flynn got benched for a rookie.
I am not saying GV is Rodgers, and I am not saying Roberts is the next big thing, but I am saying its a pretty nice system when your a pg with two arms and 20/20 vision.
That said, the future looks good for us.
Right on que!
I was taking care of some business about town. Sorry to keep my fans waiting.
What are your thought on Miller? He seemed to have a very good game. Could we have a Jared Dudley type on our bench.
I wonder if these numbers have more to do with it being that time of the year when your Ike Diogu's are averaging 30pts a game and 10 rebounds a night, or if these were some of those legit numbers. Seeing as how Denver is fighting for seeding I am sure it was hard fought, but Denver was exceptionally sloppy.
I'm one of the few that thinks he can be a starter down the road. He is a rookie, and people forget that because he is 23, but he needs time to adjust to the NBA, and he looks real solid in limited minutes. He got 20+ tonight, and he balled out. Give it to him again, and see if he can be consistent. I like him going forward because he'd be cheap, can hit the 3, can rebound, is a really good passer, and can develop into a really good defender. He has great tools to be a premier role player, and that's what I want from our 3. Let Davis, Gordon, Rivers, and Anderson be the playmakers, and let guys like Miller, Lopez (if he is still here), Vasquez (if he is still here), and JSmith be the role players.
Can't have all-stars at every position. I love Miller as a potential starter/role player.

I think Darius could be a slightly better Mike Miller (in his prime) on a contender. That shot looks sweet and he could tear up an opposing bench.
I still think you need a 6'6" - 6'9" wing that can go one-on-one on an iso. That search should continue.
(Nolaslim correct me if I am wrong) I don't think he was saying Roberts was ball hogging and pounding the rock until he found a shooter. I believe he was describing GV's game, not Roberts. He was saying what a contrast the two have, and the results of such are better under Roberts.
I actually didn't get to watch the game. I was assuming you were saying that Roberts played ball-hog and outplayed Vasquez in that manner, but I guess I was wrong. So sorry man
No, you are correct. Inner_GI is just freaking out for some reason...
Ahh. No Roberts got his assists by doing everything PGs are supposed to do. He even passed the ball to continue to the ball movement even if it wasn't going to be his assist.
I mean the team had 30+ assists tonight. It was flowing nicely, and Roberts was the glue to this offense. We kind of fell off the deep end when we resorted to Harris or Mason at the PG.
Miller has a long ways to go to prove himself as a solid role guy, and I guess that falls on Monty for not letting him play more during this "lost season." His stint in the D-League was pointless as X and Thomas were getting minuets he could use, yet neither of those guys are in the teams long term plans like Miller is/should be. It seems there is a right way to do things and there is a wrong way to do things, and tragically Millers growth was stunted because we went about things the wrong way.
I'm hoping the team shuts Gordon down because of his ankle, and Monty starts Miller for the rest of the season. Good for 2 reasons: 1) Gordon is healthy going into the off season, so he can train properly, and 2) It allows us to asses Miller moving forward. If Miller can get the job done, then our search for a starting SF if over. That isn't to say we don't add a guy like Budinger in the off season that can give us good backup minutes or even stick with Aminu on a cheap contract. He provides great defense and rebounding off the bench.
Miller emerging would fill a BIG hole at SF, and he checks a lot of boxes as a player. I love him as a facilitator from the SF position, and the spacing he provides would be FANTASTIC for Davis, Gordon, and Rivers.
Right, and IMO, that is likely due to the fact that Vasquez (who is a ball stopper) didn't play. I have it recorded, and I'll go back and watch it either tonight or tomorrow, but I was just relying on what I thought you were saying. I guess things just got mixed up. No need to get upset about it though.
Nicest thing about Miller is his ability to make smart plays under duress when things break down and just a knack for being in the right spot.
Thought it was hilarious when he got a strip but didn't realize the ball was right under him. Like a reflex that he just didn't think would pan out.
This board is funny. One minuet you hate Roberts and his play, then he comes in and has an amazing night like tonight where shots are falling, and you are sold on him as the #2 pg. So one game erases an entire seasons worth of play? Please explain.
People have been coming around to Roberts for a while now.
I don't fully trust the change until I see more of this. But you can't deny he's playing much better of late.
Miller can be a very good role player who can make big plays. He's made Aminu less likely to return unless the price is low and I assume we'll target a starting SF in this years draft. I also don't see GV being here by next all star break
something that might make a real difference is that you are part of a totally different mix of players when you start versus coming off the bench as the second or even third option at your position.....I daresay that your role probably changes quite a bit as well and we saw a couple of really young guys take advantage of being starters tonight....even if only temporary, good for them!
Aminu gets no love from some people. Miller goes 6-7 shooting in one game and he's our next starting SF? Nobody is going to shoot like that every night. I do quite like Miller though. SF could use an upgrade, but people continue every night to ignore Aminu's contributions. Aminu consistently gives us elite numbers in rebounds, steals and blocks from the SF position while shooting good FT's. Tonight:
4-11 shooting (not so hot), 5-5 FT's, 3 offensive boards, 8 total boards, 3 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks, 1 turnover, 2 fouls, 13 points.
I like Aminu but he doesn't seem to have any hope of extending his range and someone's going to offer him a pretty significant deal, probably the MLE, and I just don't see any need to match that. Darius can be a long time backup SF and there are going to be guys for cheaper via draft and free agency. He's a great rebounder but I don't think our team rebounding will take a significant hit with AD assumingly getting better on the glass
How the hell did we win against denver? Damn, i wouldn't have bet 3 cents on us. I'll have to download the game :hihi:
Hate to say I told you all about Roberts but... I told you so ;)
Great win
