Totally agree. No matter how u twist it. Iggy isn't worth all of our cap space at 15m per. If we were a piece or 2 away from being a serious contender then I'd be on board with it but we aren't. We have veteran leadership on this team already. I don't mind him on the team. I'd actually love it IF we could get him for around 11-12m per year for 3-4 years. I honestly think at this point of his career he wants to be on a team that is contending right now. Who knows tho.

It's all moot because a player like Iggy won't sign with a rebuild fresh off of a 27 win season. This was one of those reasons I hoped last year would be more competitive like challenge for a playoff spot. In that case signing a player like Iggy for a decent salary is possible. It isn't now, so we have to look forward to the draft.

I like Iggy's game, he'd be a perfect fit alongside a back-court of Rivers and Gordon in the future. If the teams projects Rivers as PG and Gordon as SG, pelicans'll need a wing able to create for AD and other players and Iggy could be this one.

But I fear that he'll fast decline Ã** la Gerald Wallace. Two years ago Wallace was a pretty good player and now he's a true liability on offense. Even if Iggy would be able to create for others, you don't want to pay 12M to a player that can't score.

Here's my thing. We have scorers in Gordon, Davis, Anderson, Rivers, and whoever we draft (maybe). We also need glue guys, and Iggy is the prototypic glue guy. If he can raise Denver's defense 23 spots while he's on the floor, imagine what he can do playing under Monty! He does everything you want except score at will, which is fine because we have others who can do that. I think he is a perfect guy to put next to Gordon and Davis, and he brings every intangible you could ever want. I'd love him at $10 mil, but were looking more at $12-13, and I'd do that.

My two favorite 'mid-tier' free agents are Martell Webster and Gerald Henderson. But as much as I like them, I would still take Iggy. Dell has shown me he can get B- to C players anytime he wants. He can pluck them from overseas or off another team's roster and I am sure he will one day hit on an NBDL guy or two.

The harder thing is to get the B+ to A type of guys. IMO Iggy is one of those guys and will be for at least the next two years. Everybody acts like 30 years old is ancient, but I have no doubt he is better than Webster or Henderson 3 years from now, and I really like those guys. If we are talking Iggy and a Euro guy we bring over like Joe Ingles vs. Henderson and Webster or something like that, I take Iggy.

I'd rather not spend the money, keep flexibility, and allow internal improvement. Then, when we make the playoffs, go for the big fish. Just like Houston, except it only took them a year to make the playoffs.

That's a tough call. If my number was set at $10-12 mil, then is say no. However, if my number was set at $12-14 mil, then I'd do it.

Being a huge saints fan, I've learned that Mickey loomis sets a number/range, and he doesn't budge. You can bet he's teaching this philosophy to Dell, and it will be in play this off season. So, it all depends on their range.

You keep saying this but you realize there is a salary floor, that each owner must spend or you have to write a check for the difference and send it to the NBA right? Not sure of the exact #, but I remember Indy had to add salary by last years deadline or they would of had to cut a check.

Denver just lost their Coach, GM, and Assistant GM. Unless they make some substantial hires or offer him an absurd amount of money, I don't see him sticking around.

Doesn't the salary floor jump up to 90% of the salary cap starting this year?

The floor will not be a problem for the Pelicans. We have $35 million committed to only 6 players next year. We still have to fill the roster.

The thing about the "Spurs model" is that it was luck, too, quite frankly. The Spurs were a contending team that suffered a rash of injuries and Duncan fell into their lap.

But can we rely on Rivers, Gordon, Davis, and Anderson to be scorers? We were one of the worst offensive teams last season and I don't think we should just assume that our offense can rely on them. Gordon has yet to prove he can stay on the floor for anything resembling an extended period of time. Rivers was absolutely awful for most of the season and has a long way to go to being an effective offensive player. Davis and Anderson are both good but not great offensively and rely on others to get points. We don't have the point guard or the system to maximize their weapons. So while I would love to get Iggy for something around 7-8 mil, that's not going to happen and I do not want to tie up a huge part of our cap space with someone who is at the tail end of his prime and, while he does contribute on offense, it isn't worth 12-15 mil.

We were 24th in points scored, but that was with the slowest pace in the NBA. We were 15th in offensive efficiency, and that was with the 2nd youngest team + an oft injured EG. Even though he's just mediocre offensively, Iguodala would be a pretty significant scoring upgrade compared to Aminu. We'll be fine on offense. We were 28th in defensive efficiency last season. That's where we need our help, and that's where Iggy's biggest contribution is.
