It can all change in a minute in the off season, but doing nothing but trotting out the same scrubs with the same team + Cousins is abusive and dangerous as hell. You think after 7 years of mealy mouthed get nothing accomplished front office feebleness in Sacramento that he is ever going to want to be a prisoner of that kind of top down incompetence again? He's not a glamour hound. You never did need to sign Paul George to impress him. But you damn well better do something to show that you are proactive, have a vision, and are busting your ****** to win absolutely every game possible next year. Because I absolutely guarantee you he has already heard a full career's worth of "we're building/be patient/trust us" nonsense. Having another franchise just throw a whole pile of mismatched stuff at his feet and say, ok, you fix this, is a really good way to see him look around next offseason for an actual professional franchise to join.

You think Cousins doesn't believe he can win with AD, Jrue and the team that went 8-3 in a tough stretch when they had everyone together? He's sitting there now mad bc he thinks they can't win?

The deadline for impressing Boogie doesn't come until next summer.

Can't use all of their exceptions without going into the tax. They have to do some maneuvering just to re-sign Cunningham at this point. That is why Asik's contract is such an issue. It will not get any better in the next few years given Cousins' impending extension/re-signing next offseason.

No, the point is not that you can save the season if an injury happens. The point is that you can have shown Boogie an exciting team/future such that he can see the team would have really worked without the injury. You can show him you know how to build a winner, and it was just bad luck. If you did nothing the rest of the summer you don't show him that. All you would be showing him is that you were incompetent and taking advantage of his talent. Self satisfied and making him do all the work of elevating more bad pieces. Then if something happens you've proven nothing. There is no reason at all for him to return.

Being active and building a good looking smartly executed team gives you a cushion and a chance no matter what actually happens during the season. If you don't do that, then the ONLY reason Cousins has to return is if you win, and not just a little either. Because he's got to be able to look forward and see guaranteed annual playoffs ahead, because plenty of other choices he'll have will be able to offer that.

Won't get any better? Why is the assumption that this franchise has to avoid the tax like the plague? If it puts butts in the seats it won't be a issue. Benson will spend it.

It is not an assumption. It is how they are proceeding. Maybe that will change in future years, but past history and current actions show that they are attempting to operate under the tax. I am not saying I agree or disagree with it.

This is what I think too. If we get a starting caliber guard then we might have a very interesting season. If we dont then we need more depth and have to hope for no injuries and we can still make the playoffs. I am afraid though that if we dont improve the roster we are one injury away from a disaster and then Cousins leaves.

I agree about Cousins

Maybe the other teams want to buyout Asik but not at the price so maybe Dell is trying to get Asik's number down. If we could get Asik to take 17 Mil but we still trade him at the full amount, plus we throw in some cash considerations like a couple mill then his cap hit this year would be 15 mill which is an easier pill to swallow. I'd think you could get Knight for something like that plus throw in a few non guarantee contracts that they could swing in another trade for more picks. I'm wondering if his injury would entitle him to an injury settlement of some kind. There was talk of doing the same with Qpon last year that the team would get the money from insurance. Just a thought.

We are all high on Diallo. We all like Cook and some of us are even optimistic in regards to Darius Miller. That's awesome and anything we get from them is a bonus.

But the people not even slightly anxious about the lack of action confuse me. None of those guys have ever been an NBA role player. We have a big three solid enough that we should be a good team if they are surrounded by neutral guys. We are severely lacking in neutral guys and you cannot force another team to make a trade. Its the ole bird in hand concept. Our 6th best player right now might be Jordan Crawford.

Every day the quality of available players diminishes. It's not time to panic yet but it's not a comforting situation.

Agreed. I'm anxious not because I'm impatient for a big move, but because the longer such a move is prolonged, the worse the FA pool becomes from which we can use to improve the supporting cast of this team. As you noted, our supporting cast is in dire need of proven commodities.

I'm kind of liking what we are doing. we aren't pressing and letting everything settle. Teams are already at the cap or well over and are going to start either dropping players or trading to clear a little space. Don't get me wrong I keep checking twitter and pelicansreport all day to see if we made a move but I also understand a little patience will bear fruit. Pope is a perfect example, he thought he was worth 20+ mill a year, Detroit cuts him and the longer it goes he'll realize he's worth a lot less. We scoop in a get a bargain. I know its improbable but you never know maybe the DWI is really bringing his value down along with a possible suspension.

Did you see what it took to dump Carrol? Cap space is a premium. Dumping salary costs a ton right now. PG's contract is up and then he'll cost over 30 Mil and has already picked his destination, his value wasn't great even if the return was less than expected.

It's more than obvious that this team will be pretty much the same next year

Alvin Gentry was handed this job because he was the Cheapest. Tom Thibeau wanted much more money so did Scott Brooks.
This team is on cruise control as is. Be happy with this roster as is. It's a 40 win team max without injury.
