That's impossible.

Here's something I say whenever the topic of a bad draft comes up. Something like half the stars in the NBA were not expected to be when drafted. Tony Parker, Marc Gasol, Steph Curry, James Harden, Kevin Love, Rajon Rondo, Brook Lopez, Joakim Noah, Paul George, Roy Hibbert, Brook Lopez are all-star caliber players off the top of my head, who weren't drafted with all-star dom in mind.
What it comes down to is that there's two types of stars. There's stars like Rose, Durant, Melo, Griffin, etc. that came into the league expected to be on, then were. Then there's those Curry, George, Noah types who weren't any more highly projected than players picked in similar spots this draft. When a draft is called one without stars, the only thing that's certain is that it lacks the former group. The unpredictable type of star is still very possible. If this draft is full of prospects who take a Harden, Curry, George, Noah, Hibbert, etc. type of path to stardom, it can still be one of the best drafts of the last few decades
Overall the NBA just isn't reliable enough at drafting for the assertion of a bad draft or a good draft before it happens, to mean anything. They're expected to be wrong about half the players and with an error rate that high, it's easily within the margin of error that a bad draft turns into a good draft, like 2009. Put it this way asking the NBA and media to tell you how good a draft is, is like getting a college kid who got 40% on his bio test to tell you what your X-Rays mean, it's just not a trustworthy prognosis
Also I disagree about drafting a starter as not being a big deal. If a team can get Mike Conley, Jr. or Luol Deng out of a draft even if they're not real stars, that improves their future a lot. Not to mention that a young starting caliber player can become a great trade asset, like the LAC pick of Eric Gordon helping them trade for Chris Paul
That's what makes me salivate most of all. Bring back the Crescent City Connection! Burke to Davis should be just what the doctor ordered. Not to mention that with Davis's burgeoning jumper he can run the pick n pop too.
Speaking of workouts:
Quote:
Jim Eichenhofer @Jim_Eichenhofer
Monty's b-ball camp at Alario Center has begun at 9 a.m. all week, so Pelicans players have been arriving at 7 a.m. to get their workouts in

Team confirms Ben Mclemore will be in New Orleans this weekend for an INTERVIEW not a workout
I guess his agent nixed any further workouts after that "out of shape" deal :hihi:
Pelicans GM Dell Demps is in Washington DC today at a Victor Oladipo workout

McLemore and Oladipo workouts are in response to GM's believing Burke to Orlando at #2 is very, very real. That causes a domino effect that will likely end with one of those SG's still on the board at 6
If McLemore is there. Wow.
Oladipo...ug.
Christ. I don't know which I'd perfer more.
I like Oladipo's ability to make clutch plays. But I also like McLemore's offense, though he doesn't really assert himself.
If Burke goes to Orlando, things will get very, very interesting. It's what's so exciting about this draft. I hope we give KCP a look as well.
If we take mclemore or dipo, Gordon will sulk so hard.
Gordon can sulk his way to the door if we get McLemore.
Gordon will move to PG... for the Phoenix Suns lol
I like Burke but would be much more excited with Oladipo or McLemore.
In all seriousness Rivers would probably take over the point and Mclemore will probably backup Gordon for a year unless we have something in mind for him tradewise.
Oladipo and McLemore.
Question I ask myself is: Who would have looked better in last night's game?
Only question that really matters to me. We say "Well I think this guy can average blah and blah...." Who cares? Only one team wins a title. How do you think each of those guys would look in a game like that? Projecting forward, which guy do you think helps his team more in a game like that, not game 47 of the regular season?
So could Danny Green until he couldn't. If you can't put the ball on the floor and create for yourself, eventually a team will shut you down in a long series.
See: Peja in Game 7, 2008 and Danny Green last two games.
Meanwhile Oladipo is more Kawhi Leonard to me. Will defend like a beast and can get you rebounds and points in unorthodox ways
Fun facts:
McLemore and Dipo had almost exactly the same combine numbers and measurements, except in two areas:
Wingspan (Oladipo +2 inches) and lane agility (Oladipo .10 faster @ 24 lbs heavier)
i agree
this is a fun topic
McLemore can get his own shot. Not only that, Dipo doesn't stretch the floor like McLemore does. In their college careers, Dipo only got 18% of his offensive production last season from his 3 point shot. Sure he had a good percentage last year but i'm willing to bet most would happily leave him some space behind the arch and sag off a bit. Meanwhile, Mclemore gets 37% of **** offensive production from the 3 point shot, 42% from 2 pointers and 20% from FTs. MUCH more balanced and much less weakness in his offensive game; to boot Mclemore almost was a member of the 50-40-90 club in college. I think if you look at it objectively, Spurs needed Mclemore and Heat would have wanted Dipo.
McLemore is much more Ray Allen than Danny Green. Either way, they both had major impacts in the finals.
And let's not understate this. This isn't shooter vs athlete. McLemore is uber athletic as well. He's far from just a jump shooter, he's a guy that plays way above the rim. Plenty talented enough to stay with anyone on defense, and out jump anyone for a rebound.
It's his quick release that gets people excited though. That's the part of his game that leaves me with no doubt he can succeed.
I think the people saying McLemore can't put the ball on the ground are kind of overstating it.
I think if nothing else we should be excited to have a shot at either one. I believe either one can improve our team. Too bad they weren't tall enough to fill our three spot
I still think baring a fruitful free agent period we will be lottery bound next year
I wonder about that. I mean, when people say "Can't create own offense." What does that even mean? Does it have to dfribble the ball up, fake one way, drive the other, spin, then layup? Or maybe jab step then put up a shot? I mean, they ran a lot of alley oop plays for McLemore. And he's VERY adept at moving off the ball. Isn't that as much creating your own offense? Going off the ball? I mean, assuming we take him instead of Burke, we'll still have a very good passer in Vasquez out there.
And McLemore is hardly a poor ball handler.
Seems like people are parroting generic player evals without really believing it themselves.
