NBA source on Kings' DeMarcus Cousins decision: "They are going back and forth. Vivek isn't sure what he's going to do."

I mean if he's saying he won't sign an extension you have to think we'd give them less bc what's the point of trading for him if he's a rental with no guarantee of resigning
That just gave me a huge pause. We would essentially have one season on a depleted roster to prove our value to him.
That is major riverboat gambling. Especially if the unfortunate happens and Jrue walks.
There is no recovering from this if it goes south IMO. Cousins walks next summer and basically you will have to move Davis to recover in any capacity if you give up that many picks and Buddy and still have anchor contracts like Asik.
Sources: Kings, Lakers discussed parameters on Cousins deal in past 48 hours, but Sacramento ended talks in late afternoon. Pels are focus.

Conspiracy theory:
Cousins is saying he won't sign an extension to lower his trade value, to keep Buddy on the team. Cousins doesn't want to get traded to a depleted team.
I swear if this trade happens and we don't re-sign him, I'm going to be livid.
Akana: "Under the circumstances ... I would find it highly unlikely DeMarcus would re-sign with a team that trades for him at this point"
I don't like the sound of that at all. This is cousins agent doing an interview AFTER the news of these rumors broke.
I was excited, then read Stein's words out of Cousins camp and got worried. Then read bahamabamba's thoughts and maybe got a bit of hope that in all the madness the price may get driven down a bit and Cousins agent may help drive it.
Now I am thinking there are too many potential suitors that have dropped out that makes me think it is impossible we are not going all in on our assets to get him.
No way would I give up that much for him for one season. Basically 3 1st round picks for one season of a guy who is a ticking time bomb is a huge risk.
Tyreke Evans ($10.2 million expiring contract) has been discussed in a potential Kings-Pelicans swap, league source tells @TheVertical.

Source: Became very clear they could not get Butler or George and turned full focus on to Cousins this today.

I don't think we should give up any more than this...
Kings get...
SG Buddy Hield
PG Tyreke Evans
C Alexi Ajinca
2017 Pelicans 1st round (unprotected)
2019 Pelicans 1st round (unprotected)
Pelicans get...
C DeMarcus Cousins
PG Ty Lawson
SF Omri Casspi
3 1st rounders would be too much. The deal could leave us like the Nets if Cousins and/or Holiday does not re-sign.
