If you truly believe this to be true, why even bother to follow the NBA? Yeah, sure, there is the enjoyment of watching basketball for its own sake. But personally, if I believed that if it was predetermined by some who-ha that my team was never going to win a Championship, I wouldn't bother following the NBA.
It might not be as easy as you think to trade down. Since there is no consensus #1 prospect like last year with AD, teams will likely settle for who they can get when their turn comes up. Of course, there may be one team who HAS to have a particular player that will give up extra assets to move up. But to me, that will be the exception this year rather than the rule.
In the Pels case in particular, they may not want to pay someone more than they're paying AD when said player is not near the player that AD is.
I agree, I would love the Pels to land him. I am a little concerned that he is so skinny (even more so than originally believed), but I think that he is one of the 5 or so best players in the draft and that he is the #1 best fit for the Pelicans.
When I do the ESPN machine today I'm getting mostly Porter, with some Burke, some CJ McCollum and one Anthony Bennet. I could see us taking Oladipo before Bennett.
They're on their way.

Bring home the top 3 bacon!
Even if we don't/can't trade down we still win because we get our #1 player. As far as us not wanting to pay someone more than AD because they may not be as good, that's complete bollocks. It's the nature of the beast and happens all the time. We wouldn't have any problem doing that. AD will get paid in time.

The last 10 years, the team who won the #1 overall pick was previously slated to draft: 4th, 8th, 5th, 3rd, 9th, 6th, 5th, 6th, 1st and 2nd
5th and 6th are the only ones with two times in the last 10 years, huh? :huh2:
Crazy how 1st NEVER gets it :hihi:
But nobody slated 4th had ever won it before we did last year. It really is just a toss-up.
After the most horrible console presentation ever i'm putting all my hopes in the lottery. How many hours till the start?
Let us relive last year(2012)
So, how is it that we have 0% chance of landing in 4th spot?
The conspiracy theorists are pointing to the Kings winning as part of a thank you for their change in ownership. That was the same theory when we won last year.
