Yeah, it's assumed people only have so much time and money to throw at sporting events. And in New Orleans the Saints and LSU (to a degree) are the Main Event. I'm not sure why NBA and NFL aren't mutually exclusive, but they don't seem to be. I wonder if there's some data to back up anything I just said :hihi:

I for one would rather spend thousands on Saints season tickets than Hornets tickets. I think the problem is the 40+ games a year at home. Anyone from outside new orleans are less likely to make the trip every game to see the hornets. However, the one trip a week to watch the Saints is much more feasible.

It's why this team will always operate under the cap. We don't have the huge tv deal or tons of money flowing from the arena.

Notice to crowd comes out to watch games when big names come to town. If we were to get a "superstar" on the roster, and win a few games we'd get crowds.

Yeah the NFL is more of a tv league while the NBA is an attendance league. Even if the Saints didn't have huge attendance the organization would still have the resources to compete. Especially with the salary cap. The NBA is designed to be a bandwagon sport (thank Stern for that) so it's hard to blame the fans.

I made a case that the NBA has far too many games in another thread. I don't remember what my final figures were but some thing like 25% of the NFL income came from attendance and something like 60% of the NBA income came from attendance. When I get a chance I'll go to the other site and see if I can dig up the exact figures.

I truly hate to complain, but yesterday was the sickest they I ever felt as a fan. I felt alone, like a weirdo, and so uncool. I even randomly spazzed on my family who I didn't see in months, because I was pissed of with the heat takeover. I turned the game off in the 1st quarter.

What really was sad is the young kids with there parents wearing heat gear.

I don't think you were trippin or what ever.
I think you have a right to feel that way. That performance last night was sickening, I actually felt bad for the Hornets players. I looked at Anthony Davis and wondered what was going thru his mind. Somebody needs to address that or somebody should've did a "George Teague" on Lebron.

I sold my tickets. I wasn't gonna go to that game knowing that I was going to be out numbered by those Heat fans. I had a choice to either enjoy my Good Friday with family eating seafood and having fun or being p'd off in the Arena full of Lebron fans. I chose to resale my tickets while at work Friday afternoon through the Hornets website. After watching the 1st quarter I was happy with my decision because if I was there at the game i might have got into a fight. This was the second game I missed all year

I have enjoyed the ticket package, but I don't make every game. I traded my tickets for last nights game with a friend for lower bowls for the Clipper game. So I traded them to a friend who went to the game for the Heat, I don't care. Those were my tickets, and I have proved I am invested in this rag tag bunch of losers. We should be happy they showed up as it brought our attendance avg up. If we wanted to shut the Heat fans up the best way would have been by winning. We didnt. Oh well.

All I'm saying is don't complain about the bandwagon fans in the Arena if you may have helped contribute to it. I don't know if you were one of the people in this thread complaining or not, and if you weren't complaining then this doesn't apply to you.

Yeah, no one's blaming you for any of that honestly. It's more about if you're complaining about how many heat fans there are, after selling your tickets to heat fans lol (and you aren't). Not questioning ANYONE's loyalty to get money back. Just more so on a person's position to complain if they helped contribute (as AD23forMVP says above me well).

What Heat fans? They probably weren't even Heat fans. They were frontrunner coattail clingers at best, LeBron fans at worst.

I understand your point AD. I am not going to complain because I knew those bandwagon fans was going to show up so it wasn't a surprise to me. I laughed at those dummies cheering for lerbron. I knew a lot of those people that were at the game cheering for the heat. Most of them I grew up with. They were posting on their Facebook page about how they couldn't wait to go to the heat game and I would tell them that I would see them in a couple of years on the Pelicans bandwagon.

After the 07-08 season when the entire city was on board with the team the Arena was about 99% full on average. Win and they will come.

Like eman said, those were no real Heat fans. They are the same ones who hated the heat when it was cool two years ago, an now that they won a ring all those said people are suddenly life-long fans.

I'm no heat fan but what Lebron did that first half was impressive. . .

I know I'm new to being a hornets fan, heck I'm new to being an NBA fan really (usually only watch playoffs and 90s basketball as a kid), but I remember the Lakers game this year where Kobe broke 30,000 points and the arena even made a special announcement about it and he basically got a standing ovation cheer. Even though he got it by going off on the hornets.

I guess my point is, you can still be a hornets/Pels fan and appreciate an individual performance right? I never once cheered for Miami but when Lebron was doing that I just shoot my head and grinned and said' "Ofcourse he would." I doubt if it was a playoff game he would have gotten that same reaction.

Lebron making those threes and waving toward the crowd to give him more love has been mulling around in my mind for a little... I'm sick of it. I'm sick of rooting to lose, I'm sick of our own fans not supporting us. New Orleans basketball is done for the year in my mind. Wake me up for next year.

I've never rooted for us to lose. People think winning and losing is a switch you somehow turn on and off. You have to breed a culture of winning. Which includes not accepting nights when you have a lack of energy. Not accepting lapses on defense. To break out of that losing spiral is very tough, and that's why I don't think the pro tankers recognize. Losing so much forces you to accept losing. You don't just throw some 20 year old "Nerleans Noel" "Trey Burke" or whatever on your team and just start winning all of the sudden.

I disagree with this thought process for so many reasons.

1st saying that you can't add a 19yo Noel or a 20yo Burke and expect to win is like saying you can't add a 17yo Bryant, 18yo James, 20yo Paul, or a 19yo Durant and expect to change a teams culture. You draft guys with the talent and that internal desire to win at all cost. When you do that your past culture becomes irrelevant. The Bulls barely had any success before and with Jordan until Pippen arrived and they built the team around those two.

Tanking or whatever term you want to use indeed is the best way to build moving forward. Because it usually revolve around giving young players more mins. And puts you in better position to add needed talent. Otherwise you wouldn't be considering tanking in the first place.


Of course just drafting isn't the way to win you have to draft well. We are a tiny market with no history of winning and no proven marque player to sell a FA. Why would a key FA sign here? Money isn't an object because the few game changers each year will get paid on any team they sign with. Drafting our talent is the only way we'll ever be a strong contender for a title. If you draft talented, hard working winners they can lose for 2 or 3 season and never lose their passion or worth ethics. If you have players that will quit solely because a situation is difficult than you have the wrong players not the wrong culture. After all it's the players that determine the attitude in the locker room not the names on the jerseys.
