What problem? that I wouldn't bend to your opinion when what I was saying was absolutely true? I'm not making anything up in here but get ridiculed for giving a different view. Silly!? Give me one statement between us or Nola where I said something that was untrue or unprecedented. I know you can expect the guy to improve but don't act like these improvements are guaranteed.
I understand both sides of this recent debate.
On one hand you can never be sure that a player will progress. There are simply no guarantees and we've seen more than enough duds and bust to back that statement up. However on the other hand teams draft more for potential. It's why despite the fact so many talking heads speak out about one-and-done or HS kids going into the draft teams lean towards youth.
So while you can't safely assume a player will continue to grow, all front offices in this league make their decision based on potential and room for growth.
Speaking of Burke if I didn't look at his numbers I could tell just by watching his game how far he has come. His freshman season when he garnered some small rumbling of CP3 comparisons I didn't think he was crafty enough or athletic enough for those statements. Having watch his 2nd season I feel way more comfortable with the Paul comparisons on both front. Next year the whole league could easily be on board. We've seen the leap in physical ability and skill and we know the work ethic is there. While I still have problems with comparing a college prospect to the best at his position I wouldn't be surprised if Burke is in the conversation for best PG in the league 5 years from now.
Just getting discussion going. Personally, I'd be pretty content taking a solid starter like Jameer Nelson in this draft, should that be where Burke ends up.
I have tons of faith in rivers, we better hope otto porter falls to us, then we are set with rivers gordon porter davis
I finally got to watch the Nike Hoops Summit. And this guy stuck out like a sore thumb. He is incredible. He is an elite talent. I don't understand why he is talked up more often. This guy should be a top 10 pick easily. He has the tools and IQ to be real good. I like him a lot!
If you have the time to watch him play, he's really impressive. He's much further along than Harrison who is the #1 PG in the 2014 class.
Dorrel Wright (27) is the perfect fit for us, could have a career year with us. Can shoot the 3 (him & Anderson lethal) realy good defender can run in the open court, gets steals & blocks. And the best part not a expensive player. A Home run!!!
Ya'll can call me crazy guys, but I'd rather have Schröder than Burks. I've been telling you about him and he keeps amazing me. It's not very easy for an International prospect to climb up the boards the way he's been doing lately. After the combine I think he's definitely going lottery.
His game is MADE for the NBA. This kid is destined to come to the US and play ball. His playing style translates way better to the NBA than it does in Europe.
I really think with his skillset and high character he could eventually become better than Trey Burke. He's got the size, wingspan, defensive abilities, passing and court vision, quickness, first step, ballhandling, leadership abilities and intangibles.
Dude needs to get a bit stronger so he can finish better at the rim and continue to work on his shot, but those things are easier to work on than the things he already possesses.
I have watched him several times. But Bledsoe is gonna be a star I think. He is really really good on defense. Got a dynamic first step and can go by peeps very quickly. U want him bad
What do you guys think of Dante Exum? He is 6'5 and 17 years old. Has an above average wingspan of 6'9. Had a good game at the Nike Hoops Summit. Scored 16 points on 6/8.
Schroeder is defintely on my radar.
Schröder > Burke.
Burke is the better shooter, but Schröder has the superior size (marginally), superior athleticism, and is a FAR better defender; they're both good out of the PnR, and their vision is comparable.
Schröder reminds me so much of Rondo (maybe even more Avery Bradley in terms of defense than Rondo); he's super quick and he can create, and he's a terrific defender.
Hopefully workouts push him into the conversation, and I wouldn't mind the pick at all at 5.
I don't know enough about the kid to really gage his value, but I think saying he's better than Burke is a stretch. In his draft video it points out two weaknesses that catches my eye. First is the turnover proneness. Which is one of the things that I feel seperates Trey from most players who dominate the ball. And second he has no mid range game. Which is necessary for smaller players. With so many freakly athletic trees in the NBA having the ability to score from anywhere in the half court is becoming a must. Burke ability to score in every way means he has a counter for whatever the defense throws at him.
I wonder how many people will be upset when the Pelicans don't draft Burke. Monty and Dell have expressed the player they want at that position and Burke doesn't really fit the bill... Good offensively. But he defense is definitely suspect. Doesn't have elite quickness like other small guards, has issues with perimeter defender such as playing the PnR and rotations. Monty likes guys who can rotate and get out there on a man and be able to guard the "mismatch". Bledsoe fits the bill...
For me these concerns are mitigated by his superior upside in comparison to Burke.
If you watch him, you'll see he flashes good form on a floater, he just needs to work on it. I would personally be fine with drafting a PG with elite speed and quickness who makes plays while he works on his mid-range (and the turnover rate).
I prefer upside that high in the draft; I think Burke is near the player he's going to be, which is a very solid to good PG. I just don't think he has the athletic tools (nor the defense) to be great.
Watch the Nike Hoop Summit and you'll see that he plays like Rondo.
