There may be a loophole, but the easy answer is no (it has never happened). The Pelicans cannot negotiate with a restricted FA prior to the beginning of free agency (which is after the draft). Therefore, they cannot agree on a contract that would be amenable to a restricted free agent in order for a S&T to even be a possibility.

This a tough draft to figure out. After Simmons and Ingram, there is a group of 6-8 players that could go anywhere from 3-10 and not be a surprise.

You're reading those reports? Seemed like you're going off a tweet from NBADraft.net, from "NBA scouts" third hand. Dunn, on the other hand, we know was injured because it was reported.

Saw a tweet from, Fraschilla that Korkmaz was staying in the draft. He may have gotten the promise he was looking for.

Yes that's where I'm getting it from. Valentine medical files are going to every team. Its not like Dunn who said he's with holding his medical records from certain teams. So it's not unlikely that's its true. If it is true you still think its worth the risk to take a guy with knee issues? I think the shoulder problem isn't as big especially is his medical record says there is no problem unlike what is seeming to be said about Valentine.

Even if you put aside the CBA and they could somehow agree to terms why would you trade a high lottery pick for someone you could get for just cap space? A star on a rookie scale contract in the new cap environment is gold. You don't give up the potential opportunity to have a cheap star in order to sign a non-star to a huge deal and not have their team match. Cuban's mindset is the right one to take regaridng 1st round picks in the new cap environment: "We won't trade a future pick unless there is a deal good enough that they would fire the other general manager for making."

Remember when injury issues helped Jared Sullinger fall in the draft? He's racked up more win shares than 15 of the 20 players selected ahead of him through four seasons. A higher VORP than everyone but Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, and Andre Drummond.

Let's rule out Valentine. No way that ever seems foolish with hindsight. Every mock draft proves out to be genius later.

Thomas Walkup is a huge overachiever, but I don't think he has a place in the NBA. I love Perry Ellis, and he seems to be a Lance Thomas type.

Jared Sullinger didn't play for the Pelicans where you need another Knee surgery after the first one to fix what the last one messed up.

Only the teams know how serious the injury is (or the potential for future issues). However, you cannot assume that if one player plays well after being labeled with an injury that all players will have the same fate. How many other players coming out with injuries are now out of the league?

3 years ago i'd say he has no shot of sticking around - even today it's a long shot. But these bigger guards who can play two positions, distribute and put the ball on the floor are wanted more than ever. I still think he goes undrafted but if there was ever a time he was going to get drafted, he's fortunate to be in this current draft class

Didn't see it posted, but Pels supposedly scheduled a workout with Dejounte Murray. Need to go back and find where I saw it, but remember reading it somewhere this weekend.

So, clearly, we should be confident drafting a player with multiple labrum injuries considering the history here?

Excited we brought in Yabusele. Would love him on the team, but don't see him being around at 39. Prince ibeh could be a very solid backup defensive big with his length and agility, but seems like he still needs a lot of development at 22.

Kobe played with a torn Labrum for 10 years, AD played with, and Gordon. Its not nearly as serious a knee issues and for you to think different is ridiculous.

At this point I don't think there is a prospect we haven't seen. I also hope we keep our 2 seconds this year it would be nice to have 3 rookies and put some youth on this team.

I wonder if the lack of PFs & Cs is any indication of their intention to bring back RyNo. If they really had a first rounder on the table from the Cavs for him and passed it up maybe he's still part of the future of the team here

I think the first rounder came with taking long term salary maybe Andy's contract which was the deal breaker. I don't see them bringing Ryan back anyway between the money he'll get, lack of D, and injury concerns.
