The dude has earned a lot less than he could have because of injuries. Money is a HUGE factor. And it's not like he is signing with the Bobcats, we are up and coming. I like our chances.

Good or bad in the end, this ultimately raises the profile of the franchise in a positive light for chasing a free agent and going toe to toe with an NBA Championship team. Positives show that this means this club is serious at improving the team at any cost while for Miami, this is kind'a like an added chip they really don't need but could use if Oden ever improves his health to be 100% as a replacement for Bosh/Wade as being a cornerstone piece because that Heat team only has so much left before they too will have to rebuild. That window will be closing in a few years. Which does Greg want, long term happiness or short term aggressiveness that may be a setback in disguise by personal agenda/greed? I hope he chooses the long term view but I never viewed Dallas, Atlanta, Sacramento, other as being a real destination. Spurs, Heat, & Us were the only three runners really in this race. If we don't get him, I won't be mad but there will be that sense of What IF? Ya know? Also, if we get Blair or Amundson back as a result of not getting Oden, this team will be OK.
Let's hope for the best.
I haven't re-upped my tickets for this year (just bought a house, student loans, CPA exam). But if we sign Oden I am going to be hanging out in 306 for 15-41 games this next year.

Greg Oden to likely make his decision today. Leaning towards New Orleans per latest reports, but Heat still in the game, as always.
Nah. I think espn would mention it for about a day and then just ignore the signing til the season starts, probably the sort of scenario Oden would want. If he signs with the heat it will be mentioned every time they discuss the team, which will be fairly regularly til the season starts.
Which is why he's better off choosing here for his low expectations comeback. With the heat there will be a steady flow of media attention and discussions about what to expect from oden from day one. Threepeat talk and new cornerstone piece etc etc. here he will disappear into media obscurity pretty quick and will remain there for the most part until something major with him or our team happens next season.
Sounds to me lke he really wants to play in Miami, but they won't pay him.

edit: they deleted the tweet but it said "BREAKING NEWS: Greg Oden will sign with HEAT , still not Official yet. (Yahoo)"
Until i see the real sources, im not ruling it out
Pretty sure this has been the consensus feeling for a while now.
All compensations being equal I don't think it would have even been a contest, oden would be on the heat a week ago.
And why not? He'd be taking a known quantity(the heat) for an unknown quantity(pelicans). Completely rational and understandable. You know the heat will compete, for all we know we might be lottery bound again next season because our parts don't end up fitting together cohesively.
not official until incarceratedbob reports it lol
So what happens if he signs with someone other than Miami or New Orleans?
So when is this decision supposed to be made? I mean supposedly he hates all the extra attention but he is waiting till prime time on a friday to announce his decision?
I feel like I'm watching a chimney waiting for white smoke to come out.
Habemus Contractum.
well this writer thinks he should choose us....
