I think Trey would be sent out in the trade. As Dae was saying, that's too much firepower to be on the bench but also the cap would be dangerous....PLUS it would be a insane amount of people that could get minutes at the 3 and 4. That many starting quality players won't be happy getting bench minutes. The team psychology would implode before the 2nd season. I think Trey and BI would both be going out to make it work but that's also why I think we wouldn't do it.

Edit: that is a **** fine team, though. Championship worthy even. Not knocking it.

BI and CJ would be out.
With Zion, Kessler, Herb and Murray costing 87M, you could still pay Trey 35M and Lauri 50M, but the depth would be gone.

Hence I wouldn't want Lauri at all.

35 is a bit much for Trey. I think 25 a year is more appropriate. 50m a year for Lauri is about right. There is no way we are keeping BI, CJ, and Trey beyond this year anyway, so we are swapping BI and CJ for Lauri and Trey by next year in this scenario. CJ was really extended 1 year too long.

There is plenty of minutes for Trey off the bench. Naji is gone remember. And if we move on from BI, then Trey could be needed for 30+ minutes a game regularly.

Per HoopsHype. If this goes through Sac is out of the BI market. He and Derozan are the same dude. We could probably jump in the trade though since they'll need a 3rd team.

Well they did have absolutely nothing for us, would rather keep BI despite the clunky fit than take Barnes and Huerter.

I’d rather let BI play out his last year than trade for Barnes and Huerter.

Us resigning BI was always the most likely outcome. Woj reported our intention was to resign him and also said BI wants to stay. Our numbers didn't match. So the next step was seeing if someone else was both willing to pay a ransom to trade for him AND give him the money he wanted, a tall ask. Two years ago BI was a clear #2 guy in a Big 3 with the potential to ascend to the level of a #1. It's looking now like the ship is sailing on him becoming one of the top 10 players in the league but he's still easily a #2 in a Big 3. Just like AD.

I think there's still an outside chance the stars align and he gets traded but it's most likely he stays. Which I love. On paper Murray, Zion, and Ingram are the best Big 3 to ever suit up as Pelicans beating out CP3, DX, and Chandler. The irony being we don't have a starting Big.

Some reporting that the Pels are interested in Malik Beasley. He didn't play very well for the Lakers two seasons ago, also was les than mediocre on defense. He had a solid season from 3 for the Bucks last season. It's reported that they're eyeing him to have a floor spacer with Zion. Wonder what that means, if anything at all considering Trey in my opinion is the better player.

BI isnt anywhere near the level of AD. He is Demar Derozan level, aka a nice stat stuffer that can be easily deleted by a quality defensive team when the games matter. Take that package and make it injury prone and inconsistent at shooting 3’s= BI. Now let’s get behind sacrificing our future to pay him $45-$50 million a year for the next 4-5 years.

When his value is even lower because however well he's playing, they're getting him for less than half the season.

Given how disinterested the market in him seems to be now, you might have to give up assets just to get off him if you're trying to move him in February :hihi:

Try $50-$60m a year, given that according to Stein his team's expectations do not align at all with the FO's.

If he was willing to take $45m per, I feel like Griff would have already paid him. Griff loves him. But his max starts at $51m a year and ends at $61m in its final year. It's just too much.

Agree that BI is a lot like DeMar, btw. They are not identical players (even at his worst, BI is a more willing 3pt shooter than DeMar, for example, and there are other differences) but in terms of profile, they're quite similar.

They're both excellent players with diverse scoring skillsets who nevertheless prefer the mid-range above all, meaning that in order to build an offense that maximises them you have to stray from good general offensive principles, meaning you get a worse whole even if the part is performing well. As a result of that team-fit issue and the fact that they're not quite that next level of superstar, BI is the type of player that you move to get THE GUY, rather than THE GUY himself - much like how DeMar got moved for Kawhi despite being a franchise hero.

Edit: and yeah BI is not on AD's level. When AD was here he was arguably a top 5 player, all-NBA every year, and even though he's not that guy now he's still objectively a top 15-ish player. BI has never reached those heights at all, or even particularly close.

I’m not sure how much lower his value can get at this exact moment. And at the deadline you will have teams who had an injury and will be desperate and will have contenders trying to keep up with other moves that wil be made as well. The point it he doesn’t have to me moved or given an extension right now.

He's a guy who can be a point forward, distribute, he's actually better that way. He can do a lot of things. But he didn't have a good year. He missed 18 games. Right now it's not on the palate for teams to trade for him when everyone knows that he and his powerful agent are going to want a max. It's not that they don't want him as a player it's that they don't desire the circumstances, especially at this moment in time.''
