Damn I liked Sengun!
I just hope we take Keon, Jalen, Garuba, or Murphy
Preparing to underwhelmed
Out of respect for the people on here who don't want the Pelicans pick spoiled, I won't post it now before it's announced, but I will say that I am entirely meh about it.
Not upset, but not my first choice. Or my third choice.
Edit: in fact actually take that back, I am a little annoyed. Plenty of better options imo. Not a huge massive fail but yeah, a very D grade draft
Good pick. Makes sense.
I like it. Not my first choice though.
I bet Griff is trying to trade the pick rn
Trey Murphy here?
Maybe we trade it. I dunno.
Who is it?
Yeesh
10 minutes of commercials
Griff trades 17 for a dozen basketballs.
I really really like the pick a lot
It feels a lot like we drafted for ''fit'' rather than for actually trying to find the best, most impactful player. Which is not a strategy I favour.
It also makes me feel somewhat uneasy about the upcoming season. If you think there are a ton of huge changes coming up, it doesn't make much sense to draft for the fit of last year's team.
I knew it
MM hinted the FO was honing in on TMIII
I think we'll regret not taking Jalen Johnson, but I'll be happy to be wrong.
Trey Murphy's three-point shooting in his three years in college:
— Andrew Lopez (@_Andrew_Lopez) July 30, 2021
2018-19 (Rice): 42.1 percent on 4.8 attempts per game
2019-20 (Rice): 36.8 percent on 7.0 attempts per game
2020-21 (Virginia): 43.4 percent on 4.8 attempts per game
Career: 40.1 percent
Now moving on to our second round picks, definitely i think we take Matthew Hurt with one of them
Murphy measured in at 6-9.25 and 206 pounds at the combine with a 7-foot wingspan. https://t.co/qhs51bpLgx

Not surprised
I like it a lot.
I agree with Dae but at least the guy is a shooter. We need those. But yeah kinda meh

Were really trying so hard to replicate the phx model. I hate it.
Yes I love it!! I wanted Keon, Jalen, Garuba, or him. I think he has more of a total game than the other 3. He can shoot and play D. Keon is an athletic freak who isn’t a great shooter. Same goes for Jalen, but he can facilitate more than any
of those 4. Garuba was my guy cause he can eventually be one of the best defensive bigs in the league. I’m just glad it was one of the 4 I wanted if we keep him.
I highly doubt we are trading it considering who we selected btw.
My thoughts on Trey Murphy III now it's been spoiled in the thread :hihi:
Strengths:
- I buy the shot. His shooting mechanics are clean and he's a really excellent FT shooter too, though the volume has been unremarkable. Probably will be a real shooter at 6'9, which is valuable.
- Can shoot off screens. He's not entirely standstill.
- Really great height and length for a shooting specialist. I don't think he's quite the Mikal Bridges defender that some people have argued, but it's hard to imagine him being terrible given his build, length, strength, etc. Will be solid on D
Cons:
- Relatively low upside imo. Not a huge event creator on defense, doesn't really create for himself or others off the dribble at all.
- Can be kind of passive at times, fairly long stretches of on court time where he doesn't really make an impact on either end.
Maybe there’s some real fire behind the Brogdon trade rumor https://t.co/1Pgz0Nqb2K

Seems a safe pick. Makes more sense if we do not re-sign Hart. (which is contrary to the rumours of late)
I wanted Keon
They wanted another bridges
Since I cheer for whoever they get(draft, free agency, trade) I am happy they got him.
The Pelicans moved back from #10 to #17 but still wound up drafting an excellent shooter in Trey Murphy III, a 6'9 wing who made 43% of his 3-pointers last season for Virginia. He was mocked to go higher:

The Athletics' Vecenie: 15
Ringer's KOC: 13
ESPN's Givony: 15
The Knicks are trading the 19th pick to Charlotte for a future first-round pick, source tells ESPN.

THis is weird
I agree. Go big or go home. As has been discussed by a million people a number of times, the odds that someone is still on their rookie team after their first contract are fairly low. The only way they stick is if they're either not very good (and therefore cheap to retain) or if they're excellent (and worth the cash).
Drafting guys who will be ''fine'' is a pretty good way of getting a guy who is just good enough to be offered more than you'd want to pay to keep them in 4 years.
Haha fans don't know they just traded out haha
Charlotte has been targeting Kai Jones, per source. https://t.co/vxQ3KpdWBV

Charlotte taking Kai at 19
Spike Lee went to the draft to watch the Knicks... trade the pick.
We still have 35 and 43.
Combine them to trade up to like, 28th and take Springer if he's there
I think you have to draft guys of this size who can shoot with requisite athleticism. They are expensive and hard to acquire when they are even average players. Like I think Saddiq Bey or Cam Johnson could have really helped the Pels last year. I think this is a good place to acquire this type of player.
Atlanta is keeping its pick at No. 20, and has Duke's Jalen Johnson at the top of its board, per source.

I like him in this situation.
I was pretty sceptical about Johnson in the lottery but at 20 he's good value.
