Is Kahn still the GM up there in Minny?

I am for Martin and Bud, but if we "only" walk away with Martin and Brewer so be it. Worse things have happened.

I just wish we could some how get Glenn Robinson.

I'm not saying I don't believe you, but if a reliable source tells you that the Wolves offered Martin for EG, how do you not ask any questions? I surely would've atleast asked when this offer was made and if he knew what Dell and the FO thought about it.

Not to sound condescending but that lineup would never work, the only player on the floor that could shoot would be jrue. In all honesty I would start jrue martin and tyreke and put tyreke on the teams better offensive threat out of their sg or sf and out jrue on the netter offensive threat between the pg and sg and hide martin defensively on the other teams perimeter shooter like jj redick.

I'm not a reporter and I wasn't even in an information gathering mode! In hindsight I could've asked questions, but we were all busy doing something else, and the NBA came up during a pause in the action. I knew the guy would know what was going on with Pelicans, but I never had any intention of asking any Pelicans questions. I started taking about the NBA just to give a Knicks fan a hard time about Jose Calderon being their savior and them being the 10th seed in the East next year. That's when the info was volunteered. We literally talked about Pelicans for 90 seconds. And then later I told him Dell should trade Gordon for me. It never occurred to me at all to pry more info out of him.

I think calling this dude "a source" implies that I have this relationship where I go to him for information. It's not like that at all. We don't have that kind of relationship. But he's a basketball guy with the Pelicans, and I've only shared the words that came out of his mouth.

Because they wont win a championship with love and role players, if there is a chance that gordon to return to form and become the player he could be then it works out. Teams will take major risks if it means keeping their superstar happy or a chance at a championship. Everyone on here said there was absolutely no way dell could move ariza or okafor, let alone both! But look what happened, the wizards are very glad they made that trade, and with our salary from it, we give gordon a huge contract that didnt work and we all thought that we came out a million times in top. Things happen all the time the way they are not expected to.

Timberwolves fan, and I must say I find this trade very intriguing. I usually don't use the ESPN Trade Machine because I like adding more detail, but I feel lazy, and it will work well enough, haha.

A good friend of mine within the Wolves organization, and myself were discussing this, and he said it is a practical scenario. (Edit: Of course with major tweaking here and there, but it still excites me non-the-less, haha.) My reasoning behind this being reasonable is...

1. The trade frees future cap room for Ricky Rubio and other rookie pay raises.
2. The trade frees up additional roster spots that would have pushed the Timberwolves to the 15 player maximum limit.
3a. The Golden State trade is not help up on Klay, but rather Kevin Martin and Harrison Barnes.
3b. Golden State does not have any interest in Kevin Martin's contract, nor giving up Harrison Barnes.
3c. It is a given that Klay would be dealt, and that has already been agreed upon.
3d. This would force Golden State to give up Barnes as a complementary asset in the trade.
4. Flip Saunders is greatly displeased with last year's signings to appease Rick Adelman, mainly Kevin Martin.
5. Timberwolves would become more athletic, fitting more to Ricky Rubio's strengths. (Opinion based by me.)
6. This frees up New Orleans MLE within my understanding.
7. New Orleans becomes a deeper team, and becomes far more durable.
8. You guys really seem to hate Eric Gordon ever since he gave New Orleans the middle finger for matching the max offer sheet from Phoenix, haha.
9. Golden State has this weird obsession with blowing up their roster for another big time player.
10. Kevin Martin is horrible. Cough, I mean this helps the Pelicans become a better team this season.
11. Timberwolves can always send a few second rounders to make New Orleans feel better.

As a Timberwolves fan I would {edited - "be excited"} on this trade. Even if Gordon did not work out at all, it helps the Golden State trade go through perfectly. That is the real value of this deal for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Exactly, also something else, if dell didnt have more than one possible option for moving gordon he would have never made the trade for asik without knowing for absolute certainty that he could move gordon to make salary cap for asik. You just dont trade for a player and say, maybe I can make salary cap room for this guy, dealer dell has got this covered!

If their GM offered that for EG and Demps said no then there must be other or better offers.
I think there must be things on the cards otherwise Demps wouldn't have tied up the team like this.

Some tweaking may need to done, as you said. Like, we are going to have to get something back of some usefulness in the future. I don't like Eric simply from a fit standpoint. I don't think he fits our team. But at the same time I'm not willing to trade him just to get back nothing. Either GS or Minny would have to send us some draft picks and a young player. Being a fellow Vikings fan (assuming) you know how beneficial 1rst round talent can be. Especially, when you get multiple in one draft. So, looking at your trade I would want to drop JJ for a younger wing or guard and some pics (they can be seconds).

Domejan, the one part of the trade that won't work right off bat is trading Morrow. He opted out of his contract and will want more money. We could still S&T him but it won't be at the 1M rate.

Also our hatred of Gordon comes far more from the fact that he handcuffs our cap. We are fine with KMart because he will be a backup and scorer off the bench, which is a great role for him.

Tell your friend to just leave a printed out copy of that trade on the GMs desk.

Meanwhile we're getting the much older player that plays no defense. Why is everyone so excited to do this? I think our Gordon hate may have gone to new limits.

Now I'm all about making this Asik thing work as a three team trade that keeps our MLE and bird rights. And I do agree it's better for everyone to ultimately get Gordon in a new city. But along with Asik's cap hold, we aren't feeing up enough after this year to even make the additional $8 million in space worth while. Let's keep the better player, no?

Domejan... keep Barrea and throw in a couple 2nd rounders, and you got a deal. We're trying to make moves to free up space for Asik, so that extra 4 mill would be defeating the purpose almost.

So, the money thing - not only is it 8 mil less, but it is 8 mil less the following year as well. 9 mil less owed total. Yes, you have to add a year to the contract, but that year culminates with AD's extension, so we aren't adding money that summer anyway. Martin becomes a trade asset as an expiring if we would like. And it is not like it kills us for next summer. With the Core 4, Asik's hold, and Martin on the books, you can still have 13 million in cap space next summer.

Not only would this trade allow us to keep our MLE, it would allow us to keep Bird Rights to our FA's, and Rivers (the alternative to trading Gordon). And lastly, I think the "better player" is at least debateable, and if not in a vacuum, we can talk better fit for us. Martin has showed he is willing to come off the bench; Gordon didnt seem too fond of the idea. And I can't say this enough - Gordon was the biggest net negative for our team last year when you looked at how our team performed when he was on the court vs. off. Gordon is addition by subtraction. Look at it that way and then I look at it as Martin replacing Morrow.

Evans replaces Gordon, Martin replaces Morrow - I see that as one huge upgrade and one minor one. Morrow is the better spot up shooter, but Martin gets to the line almost 400% more. You look at Martin as a reserve two years ago and he put up a TS% of .608. Even with his crazy 3-pt rate and percentage, Morrow was only .570 last year (Gordon .540)

I didn't follow the numbers there at all. $8 and $8, $9 total?

Way it looks to me, we have to take a Chase type this season meaning we see a couple of million saved at most but no real cap space anyway.

Next offseason we gain $8 million and that's great. Two off seasons from now Gordon would have been completely gone while now we would be paying Martin $7.3. We net gain nothing.

AD's extension year is tough. We'll have the cap hold first, and we could convince him to wait while we signed someone before ultimately inking his nice and pretty 5 year deal. But I'm thinking there is little chance he doesn't sign the second it's possible and you're probably right about cap space being a non issue that offseason.

You also have to account for Martins age and possible cliff fall over the next three seasons.

All that being said, I won't be upset with the deal. And most anything keeping the MLE and birds makes me happy. But I don't see the big celebration win here.

Ps- I don't love having to compete for the playoffs with a team that would now have a lineup of Rubio, Gordon, Brewer, Love and Pekovic. Thankfully it's unlikely they all stay healthy, but still.

What does it say about NBA fanbases that the Minnesota fans like the trade to get rid of Martin and think Gordon could do well with a change? Just like our fans seem more focused on the fact that our FO wanted Martin a few years back instead of his play in Minnesota - where they hate him as much as fans here hate Gordon. This is part of why I have always said that Gordon is not a completely toxic contract, it just takes one GM to have the opinion that Gordon could reach his potential somewhere else, that it was more about him not being happy here. I wouldn't be stunned if that were the case (although I would be stunned if it happened in Minnesota, his midwestern roots went out the window when he arrived in LA).
Is the worst contract in the history of the NBA Gilbert Arenas? Orlando hires a GM that had a prior good relationship with him and Gilbert arrives in Orlando (for maybe the 2nd worst contract). Bargniani not only got out of Toronto- the Raps got picks for him!?!
This trade definitely looks like a real option for Dell to me, and I think it's not the only potential destination for Gordon. Several teams are going to miss out on Melo, and several are going to miss out on Love, and several are going to miss out on Lance, and those teams are going to need to do something, and Gordon could well be a plan C for some of them. What makes me happy about this trade is that I think it works for the Wolves regardless of whether they trade Love now or at the deadline. What makes me sad about this trade is that Martin may be as bad as the Wolves fans say he is. But even if that is the case, since it allows us to keep Ryno and Rivers, I definitely still do it.

It's not the fit that's the problem, It's production vs salary. Of course attitude and injuries don't help either. I'd prefer to trade with the hornets but I'll take anything I can get.

Another question, why would SA COACH Pops switch his best defensive player, Leonard, to guard Gordon? Why is EG doubled? Believe it or not even MM admitted Gordon is a good player.

2. This team was terrible with him on the floor last year (Team was 8.2 points per 100 possessions better when he was off the court as compared to on)

A player can be good in a vacuum, but not good for your team. If he goes to Minny, I can see him putting up 18ppg and having a nice little season. Even if that happens, I would have no regrets about moving him. He just doesn't fit here and we can take that same exact money and get guys who fit better.

1. He is not worth his contract, and even more so for us as we have two stus in the backcourt already

2. This team was terrible with him on the floor last year (Team was 8.2 points per 100 possessions better when he was off the court as compared to on)

A player can be good in a vacuum, but not good for your team. If he goes to Minny, I can see him putting up 18ppg and having a nice little season. Even if that happens, I would have no regrets about moving him. He just doesn't fit here and we can take that same exact money and get guys who fit better.

This is the point i continue to make. He's like a B- player and a D asset. They're very different rating scales.

I firmly believe that if there were these two worlds with Gordon still on our payroll:

1. Gordon starts at SG and plays 30-35 minutes

2. Gordon hangs out in LA watching IU basketball

That the Pelicans would do better in scenario #2 over the course of the season. Now, if he would would be cool coming off the bench and playing 20-24 minutes and embraced that role, the Pels could be better than in either of those scenarios. But, I dont believe he would be okay with that, and I think his pouting and bellyaching could disrupt team chemistry.

So I think that if Gordon and Martin were swapped, Gordon would have the better year but Martin would have a better impact on his team

I can see a three way trade happening. Parsons, Jones, pelicans 2015+ something else to Minny, Asik Kmart and SF to Nola, Love + change to Houston.

Just my feeling based on non verbal reaction to how excited I was at the prospect of trading Gordon when this was mentioned yesterday, is that not everyone thinks Gordon is completely useless/terrible/worthless.

But is anybody else on here blocked by Gordon on twitter? Somehow I've been for like 2 years! Even Gordon has gotten wind of my displeasure with him living in MY city! For me I take equal offense to his apparent lack of appreciation for NOLA as I do his obscene contract relative to his net impact on our origination. Gordon is easily my least favorite player EVER in the NBA. And like I've said, I'm a grown man...so that's a lot of scummy players I've seen come and go.

That being said.... I think I might possibly understand if Dell is gun shy to dump Eric Gordon for players if he thinks Gordon has any chance of being better than those players next year and the Tyreke/Gordon dynamic can be worked out by either starting both or one embracing the 6th man role.

Let's go with the theory that Dell is on the hot seat. For the same reasons Minnesota might be willing to gamble on Gordon, Dell might be talking himself into gambling one more season on Gordon, and then weighing that against trading Rivers who we should all be to agree is not as good a player as Gordon.

More than likely Dell wants to get something better than just Martin out of the deal, and refuses to take back 2 bad contracts in Martin and Chase. At least that's my hope.

In that deal with Houston I'd love to get Parsons but I think if they don't get melo parsons ain't going anywhere. I think for Houston it's melo or bust.
