A bad contract is a bad contract. You can keep the room and use it for other players or take on other contracts and get assets in return. There is still an opportunity cost. It is still a terrible contract. Ryno is a solid asset but does not fit their building timeline. Rivers is a solid asset and the picks are okay depending on how Orlando thinks New Orleans will be record wise over the next few years, but not enough to get a rebuilding team to give up the 4th pick in a draft that has a good top tier.
Now, maybe you can get Sacto to give you the 8th pick for Ryno if you take back Jason Thompson. Then, you offer Orlando that pick and our 2015 pick for the 4th pick. Maybe.
The issue with our assets is that they are for teams who want to win now, and again, other than the Cavs the teams in the top 5 dont want to win now.
