WWL is a bigger joke than Dan Cook. They were talking on the radio about how you deal peja with cp3...why? Peja is an asset this point, why trade a superstar and an asset? They went on to praise DX as great value, and you are getting an all star player for about $9mil...were they not watching basketball last season?
The Hornets should trade Paul for a Godfather type deal but nothing less.
I'm not reading this entire thread, but trading Chris Paul for virtually any package of players or picks would be the dumbest decision in franchise history.
Can someone please tell me one time where a team benefited by trading a top 5 player in his prime? When has that ever worked out?

A lot can change in two years. IMO you risk it. Hopefully, Monty is a good hire and he can make enough progress in the next two years to convince him to stay. There's risk involved but I think it's a risk you have to take.Quote:

Unless Monty can compete for a championship this year, I don't like his chances. CP isn't going to hang around for 2 years waiting to see IF we MIGHT have a CHANCE at competing at a high level 3...4...5 years from now. I can't speak for Chris....and he's not the type to use the media by releasing info, etc....but I'd be MUCH more surprised if he isn't looking to leave than if he is....and Chris is also the kind of kid who will give the organization he is leaving the ability to save as much face as possible and maiximize his value.Quote:

The 2nd Tyson trade for Okafor was awful, and it will haunt this team for years to come unless we can get lucky and dump Okafor. His contract is pretty much as bad as Peja's, the 1st trade with OKC was much better as it gave us two capable bigs for the '09 playoffs and two expirings for the offseason.

I don't see why they don't just hire a basketball guy to cover LSU and the Hornets.
It's hard to get excited about the upcoming season, because you look at the roster and you know there is no way this team is winning more than 40 games.
We are going to be right back in the lottery next year at this time discussing this same topic.

I'll admit to it as well...I took a look at Okafor's stat sheet, remembered his rookie campaign, and thought we were getting an upgrade over the old Tyson. Then came reality and a guy who cares more about pilates than basketball. Oh yeah, and his terrible contract.
I keep hoping that the Okafor deal will turn out like the Carlos Boozer deal. Boozers first few years in Utah were rocky and he was nearly on his way out a few times, but after those 1st 2 seasons he came on and played great ball.
Okafor didn't have a great season last year, but with a new coach, and (cross fingers) and healthy team around him, maybe he does play better and justify the pay.
If Okafor could ever find heart and passion for the game, maybe he can turn his career.Quote:

peja is an asset going into this season. expiring contracts are just as valuable to us as they are to other teams.

Sure. Ownership is usually a long term venture, making the franchise cheaper makes it easier to sell to potential owners. So trading CP to cut payroll would make the team attractive to some owners. Would the team be more attractive with CP? Sure, but it's cheaper without him.Quote:

We do know this ... Shinn has been losing money for years, he certainly hasn't kept it a secret, and the common perception about the team is that it's broke and losing money by the day. I don't blame ESPN or the rest of the sports world media ... until the Hornets fight the perception that they are a poorly run franchise that is on the brink of failing financially then we are going to continue to see more of these articles.
