Are we talking about a white guy?

I can imagine Hield not being able to get open. He's not a great athlete by any stretch and his lack of size, though above average length, doesn't show good prospects for him defensively.
6'4.5" with a 6'9 wingspans is plenty enough size for the SG spot offensively and defensively. He mite not be a great athlete but he is a good one. I don't think he will have a problem at all getting open in the NBA. Just watch him work in college and the guy literally does not stop like Rip Hamilton use to play. He's constantly moving to create space for himself. He has made it a lot harder on himself the get open because he is so good. Defenders are literally told not to look away from him and keep a body in his fave at all times. He doesn't have the luxury like most to have a guy give him a little space. I think he has had plenty of training on getting open for himself. I think Hield is a very similiar player to Beal. Some want to throw out he mite be like Jimmer but I don't see it. Not saying he can't fail but Jimmer took every shot with the team revolving around him. Wasn't a very good off ball player and brought nothing else to the game but scoring with the ball in his hands at all times.
They need to start making the college game similiar to the NBA. Especially the 3 point like so we can get a much better idea of how their shot will translate. I think a big reason why so many players bust and especially big men is because of the drastic differences. It really makes no sense to not adapt to most of the NBA rules which has made the game so much better. Giving guys like Simmons that 3 point space would make him even more dominant. I think how crowded the 3 line makes things it takes a lot away from so many great players not allowing them to use their skill set to the max.
I have watched plenty duke games as well and im not saying he does not have potential, im just not buying his hype. Him and Simmons and a bunch of these new guys are all lacking that "killer personality", outside of their percentage efficiency and potential. He is no where good and dominant as Durant was in college who averaged more and impacted his team more. Garret Grayson is Duke most impactful player. Simmons is super talented, but we have plenty of super talents in the NBA, but not enough winners.
The Pelicans identity has been in play since CP3 years ended, and our culture lack winners and true leaders who care only about winning. Even Chris Weber last night said on NBA tv that our team shows low iq and no will to win based on the low touches AD got last night.
This draft has alot of boom or bust material but if im drafting im going with legit killers on the court. Screw the quiet boy, nice guy acts. Im sick of it. I wish we had a Lillard or Westbrook in New Orleans.
Go look at Grayson Allen as a sophomore. Also he is about 3 years older then Ingram who is I believe the youngest player in the draft. Saying Allen is the most impactful player on Dukes team is false. Anyway Allen is playing as well as almost anybody in college basketball and if you put Dunn on the same team guess what? Allen is the most impactful player over him. Having a winning team in college has nothing to do with how you will transition to the NBA winning. Ingram is deinfitely near as good as Durant was. He mite not be as good but so what does that mean? Saying he is not near the level of Durant just shows you watch very little of Duke and listened to what some reporters and write ups said about his play at the beginning of the year.
The whole we need a loud player is one of the most over rated things in all of sports. Who has been the Spurs loud player for their championships? Man I guess it would really kill us to have someone like Leonard and Duncan lol. Yea sure it's great to have someone that shows fire but it's also doesn't matter to have guys that don't show it. What has that fire gotten Westbrook or Lillard? Westbrook couldn't beat out AD for the playoffs when Durant went down. Durant not having fire doesn't seem to hurt him. Using their demeanor as a grade on their play is a very very poor argument. Have not said anything about their games. I don't understand how Simmons and Ingram can't be considered winners because of their quiet nice guy acts.
Another option is a draft day trade for Dario Saric. He is a point forward. Seems like a more well rounded SF version of Ryan Anderson. If Dunn is off tbe board at 6 or 7 I would be fine moving the pick for Saric. Dell liked him a few years ago and I think he is going to be very successful. Jrue/BDJ/Saric/AD/Asik could be formidable.
Oh and he is only 21. Check out his 2015 highlights.

Your are so wrong its unbelievable lol Im at work right now so i cant text essays to respond to you, but just know im one of the few people who rarely pay attention to reporters say. This is all from eye test. And the Spurs culture is a winning one for over 20 years so thats a bad example. I hate when people give hyperbole examples like us tanking this season turning into "76ers" style or some other bull lol.
If Gentry is sticking around, the worry of Hield not getting open wouldn't really be an issue would it? Hasn't the new system increased our open shots, we just aren't hitting. If anything he should excel in it with his movement.
I'm not worried at all about this ability to get open. I just could see that specifically being something he could struggle with. Playing the game isn't an issue though. He plays smart basketball and has good instincts.
Doesn't matter how long the Spurs have won for. They have continually won with those types of players. Saying we need somebody who high steps and bumps their chest after every made basket to be great is absurd. Like I said go watch just as many players who don't do that and are just as good. Saying Ingram and Simmons don't have a winning mentality because they don't find the need to dance or yell is such a poor argument. Keep believing that if you want but plenty of thing to back up why that is absurd and nothing to back up how that makes any difference what so ever.
I think of Championship teams, and all of them had an Alpha dog. The Spurs have Pops serving in that role. Here we have a great player, but Reke was more the Alpha (when healthy) than AD. AD doesn't have to be the Alpha (thought it would be nice), but we need a guy who is going to chap some asses if things aren't going well. If that is Dunn's selling point, make it so. If Simmons is there I would take him, but I am still hoping that we have an Alpha while AD and Simmons are looking to use their voice. I believe that was what was being mentioned earlier when a poster mentioned Johnny Jones and Simmons. Jones is a coach, but he isn't respected (and why should he), and maybe it has to do with not knowing his place, but Simmons has had a few disappearing acts this season, disappearing acts that have caused people to question wether Ingram wouldn't be the 1st overall pick.
Lol yea having someone chap ***** results in championship wins. Every coach chaps ***** so Pop is no different. Using him as their Alpha is just an excuse because no player is there to back up the argument. Most over rated thing is needing some loud player like Westbrook to win or mean you have a winning desire. Some of the greatest players of all time didn't act this way so it's a poor and very ridiculous argument.
Even the Spurs....While not a "stat box filler" Robert Horry was that guy...Remember when he put Nash into the scoring table? That had mean streak written all over it...And never forget Bruce Bowen... That guy would trash talk, bump, push, pull shorts/jerseys....Even the Spurs had their share of loudmouths.
I won't respond. Not that I can't, I just don't feel like it. Oops just responded ;) lol but nah man I won't catch feelings at your tone, my day has been hell so I won't type from a high emotional standpoint and make an ****** out of myself, all I will say is that I disagree with you and agree with the poster who spoke about the alpha dog. If that's better wording then that's what I meant.
Lol catch feelings at my tone? Don't know where you get the from but gotchea. Saying a player needs to be loud and dance to be an "alpha" is absolutely ridiculous. Absolutely nothing to back that up while I can point out alpha after alpha who doesn't act the same way as Westbrook and Lebron. Nothing makes those guys any better because they decide to express themselves over a player who doesn't.
I really hope AD adds the stanky leg to his arsenal running up the court after he scores a basket. Until he adds that to his skill set he simply will not be an alpha. If Simmons and Ingram can just add the quan or the John Wall to their skill set then they will be the alphas and winners this team needs. If Dunn could just add the duggie to his repertoire he would easily be the clear #1 pick. That's only if Simmons and Ingram don't add one of the above to their game because if they do it's over for the rest of the NBA. Another thing is they must add a Tarzan scream. This is needed for everybody's game and without it they will not be a winner.
?
Nobody is saying they have to dance or anything like that to be an alpha except for you. It has everything to do with their attitude, how they approach the game, and their fellow teammates. Anyone who has followed AD at all, read Q and As with him, watched him, etc, can tell that he does not have that attitude. It's no knock on him, he just doesn't. He's still very young, and might yet develop it, but right now it isn't within him to lead this team firmly and consistently, and take charge when necessary, and a team cannot win without a player who can do that on and off the court.
M That is exactly what people are saying? Simmons and Ingram can't be winners because they play the nice guy bs. Somehow Westbrook is some "alpha" though when that's not true if it's how he reacts with teammates. Besides when it is Westbrook making a dunk or some other play to celebrate he is one of the quieter and more kept to himself players out there. If AD all the sudden started screaming after made shots and beating his chest we aren't having this conversation from some and that's crazy. You don't have to do those things or act the way you are trying to say to be an alpha or a winner. That is so false it's not even funny. How far did any of that get Kevin Garnett before he joined a couple HOFs? Nowhere and the list goes on and on. None of that stuff makes anybody more of an alpha then Leonard, Durant, Dunan, and many others that I could keep listing. Lol some how Reke is more alpha then AD?! What kind of joke is that? How because he gets mad when he doesn't make one of his dumb layups or looks like he says something to a player. Does anybody ever actually listen to these players when miced up and hear what they are saying half the time is meaningless when it mite look like it from the camera. AD talks all game you just don't see it in his expression. Go sit courtside and tell me he doesn't talk all game long because he definitely does. This whole one guy isn't an alpha because he lost to the Sixers and isn't consistent after scoring 59 is just ridiculous. Go up above and look how it is basically said Simmons and Ingram can't be winners. It has everything to do with playing the nice guy role and not being expressive.
Since you want to play hyperbole, would Kevin Durant ever allow his team to miss the tourney due to not taking over when his number is called vs Simmons in LSU who may be the first player drafted #1 overall in the last 40 years to not make the Tourney? Would MJ allow his team to lose to games and not ask for the last shot instead deferring to Grayson Allen?
Am I doing your hyperbole thing right???
