A rookie that has yet to play an NBA game cannot make a talented vet's contract expendable. You're talking maybe 2 - 3 years down the line when Gordon's contract would be at it's end anyway.
Don't see why you can't see Gordon in the teams's future plans but drafting Oladipo doesn't suddenly change anything. It might have a more immediate effect on Rivers than Gordon.
well he looked smaller than that... I'm also on the board with drafting for talent and no for need... always. My first option is Trey Burke, and then I'm not sure what I would pick. I guess one out of Burke-Porter-Oladipo will be available for us. Also Muhammad who could be a good option at the 3, but duno if he has his brain in place after all.
By the way, his defense and way of moving reminds me a lot of Avery Bradley, which I like.
Man, if Dipo was a PG... whew. I'd wet my pants.
I'm not saying trade Gordon to have dipo. I am saying if we draft Burke or anyone. . I don't like Gordon and his contract is a mistake.
We can keep him but I think we should move on before next year deadline before he is hurt again further downjng his stock
Bak to dipo. I think he is gonna be a special player dwade or even iggy.
Why can't Oladipo be Wade? Wade didn't have a deep shot when he got to the league, he was just a force on offense. Victor is the same way as all he does is get to the cup and have a nice mid range game. The deep shot will come in time.
Heck we could play Dipo off the bench to backup Gordon and possibly play the 3 a little. We really dont have a good backup 2 anyway. A SF and PG may be better to get in FA or via trade. If Dipo turns out to be a sure thing then we trade Gordon. Derp.
Don't need to get rid of Gordon this summer or next even if they draft Dipo. Give the young guy a chance to get his feet under him and improve while also evaluating Gordon, who is not an old player and still improving himself. Everything people love about Dipo you already have in Gordon right now and more. Don't worry about mostly minor injuries with someone who just turned 24 a few months ago.
Monty has shown a willingness to run a 3 guard offense anyway. Getting rid of Gordon this summer and pinning all hopes on Oladipo is a definite downgrade at this moment and not a good move.
I don't know how people can continue to have faith in Gordon. He'll have the option to put a ton of pressure on our FO after next year. I rather be proactive with Gordon and trade him. If we can get Oladipo for him I'd gladly take that deal.
How is putting faith in an unknown rookie any better? Basically setting yourself up to go in circles. Just think back to 2008 when it was Gordon coming out of Indiana. Exact same people on this board salivating over Dipo would be salivating over Gordon.
You have faith in Gordon because:
A.) He's only 24 and has loads of time to live up consistently to what he's ALREADY shown on an NBA floor
B.) The team already has cap space even if he stays to continue to build the roster
C.) Unlike with a Burke/GV scenario, you can say with 99% certainty that replacing Gordon with Dipo next year is a downgrade
Stop trying to rush young proven talent out of here when there is no need to at this moment.
Right now Oladipo is #4 on my draft list for the Pelicans. Just ahead of Burke. I'd be happy with either of them. I think Oladipo would be a very good addition. Great defender (where the Pels really need help), excellent athlete, the right attitude, etc.
I'm really hoping we get a top three pick and can snag Porter (really need a SF), but if not Oladipo would be decent. And I think it would be good for him to get at least half a season (if not more) playing off the bench with Gordon starting.
A)The fact that he's 24 with that injury history is a problem.
B)I highly doubt Gordon will play out this contract. He can(and IMO likely will) opt out after 2 years.
C)We can't say what Oladipo will be. He could very well surpass Gordon. Hell if he can actually stay healthy he's half way there.
In your opinion there's no need. We are talking about one of the most fragile players in the last 3 or 4 years. If there wasn't another reason that would be reason enough. Only thing Gordon has proven is that he has true NBA potential. I have little to no faith that Gordon wants to be with this team and will force his way off this team the minute he has the power too. If anything goes wrong next season we get screwed. So if that's not a reason I hate to see what you consider a reason.
I like the top three guys. I think dipo will be there an that's why I focus on him. Best at where we will likely be.
He's 24 with proven NBA talent. He has not had any major surgeries and the team is doing everything it can to keep him on the floor. Everything else you say is pure heresay with nothing to back it up unless you have personally spoken with him. You don't let personal feelings get in the way of intelligent roster decisions.
The mere fact that you can't say what Oladipo can be is the main reason you keep Gordon around. You don't screw with what little talent your roster has based purely on unknowns. Gordon's contract is not restricting this team from making moves in any way.
The only way Gordon leaves this roster is if he is traded for equal NBA talent (not draft picks or 2 lesser scrubs), not because you're drafting a rookie at his position. At this point, I doubt there is any team who will make that trade.
Personal feeling doesn't come into my decision at all. It's all about business. However anticipation is apart of the job. So is trusting your instincts. The Cavs got nothing of worth for LeBron because they couldn't read the writing on the wall.
You speak about Oladipo and uncertainty. There's not much certainty involving Gordon other than the fact he will make max money. I don't feel comfortable about Gordon capability to play the majority of the season next year or any years following. Matter fact the only thing that's been certain is EJ missing games as of lately. Let's not speak of Gordon as if he's a max player yet either. IF he can stay healthy people believe he can get there. Which involves two huge uncertain statements. Health and farther improvement. I rather make the gamble that doesn't cripple the franchise if something goes wrong.Quote:

1st we are talking about two completely none related issues. I would want Oladipo regardless if we had Gordon. I would want to trade Gordon regardless if Oladipo was available.Quote:

Next he has an opt out clause. So whether or not we have the last year, two really becomes about Eric and his desire or lack thereof for being apart of this team.
The Thunder attempted to trade Harden for Jonas V. Which was essential a draft pick. I think we all agree Harden has more value than Gordon if for no other reason than he's remains healthy.
The fact remains that there are more things that can go wrong than right trying to retain EJ pass this off season. This should not be the case when dealing with a guy on a max contract.
Why not move Gordon to PG and then you have a back court of Gordon And Dipo?
