Dell Demps,
Get the deal done.
Dell Demps,
Get the deal done.
The people complaining about Dell's lack of moves would be the same people complaining if Dell made a trade earlier that they deemed "bad" or we "gave up too much".
Dell keeps from making a bad trade and doesn't rush to sign just any free agent and he gets just as much flack from people as if he had done a bad move.
There needs to be some middle ground where we can actually wait to see what happens before we all jump off the cliff. It's easy to blame Dell, but hard to just wait.
That is the reason why I wouldnt mind a one year deal. This unit has a lot of potential - especially defensively. Rondo has great playmaking ability which we all think is Jrue's weakness. I would rather get a very good shooter at SG but I as I said I wouldnt mind this experiment. There is risk but there is also a big chance it could work out really well. I think he could get really motivated playing together with Cousins, AD and Jrue. When he was motivated he played well (playoffs last year). Also I always hated the alle-yoop passes to AD cause they were never good passes and I always had the impression that AD was going to get injured. I think he would be safer with Rondo's passes.
Can we sign Rondo and keep Dante?
Bench consisting of Cook, Moore, the rook, Miller, Dante, Diallo, Ajinca wouldnt be too bad imo.
That would be a question better suited to 42 and his article on BSS. I'd link it but I'm not at home and tied up at the moment.
Based purely off of memory which could be entirely wrong I think we are somewhere around 7m from the hard cap. So both would need to fit inside of that... Excluding any moves we made to lessen our cap hit like releasing non guaranteed contracts. Again, that could be totally off.
You only have to be under the hard cap by June/July of next year when the cap is calculated, that's why there's no big rush to dump Asik as of right now.
At least that's what I think
I would love to take a course on the NBA CBA if there was one, it's so ludicrous yet fascinating at the same time. And I'd love to be able to understand it all fully

Rondo update. #Pelicans in the mix but not alone. twitter.com/rickbozich/sta…
Deal done, per Shams
Yessss!
Free agent Rajon Rondo has reached agreement on a one-year deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, league sources tell The Vertical.

Yay.................
You lose most, if not all of the credibility of your points when you throw out a statement like this. To suggest that a person of his high professional achievement doesn't even bother to try and improve his product is ludicrous. And by "high professional achievement" I mean that he has attained the position of NBA General Manager, a position that not many people in history can claim that they held. People like that don't get to be people like that by sitting on their hands. KnowWhatIMean, Vern?
I'd say that pretty much solidifies our starting line-up Rondo/Holiday/Hill/Davis/Cousins, so that's something to be exciting about. And that should give way to filling out our bench, especially with adept 3-point shooters.
Good signing.
I love it...

New Orleans was $3.7M below the luxury tax heading in today. Spending more than $4.2M of the mid-level would hard cap the Pelicans.

It's a 1 year deal so I'm not super worried about the cost but I am interested in the numbers to know what kind of space we have to work with for resigning Cunningham, etc.
As far as the move goes itself, could there be better fits, players I want more, etc? Absolutely. But the two things I feel are really good reasons to do this are 1) It makes us not desperate to make a move. 2) It doesn't tie us into anything long term and retains our flexibility to make other moves. Bonus) It makes Cousins happy.
Signing Rondo means we can go into the season with our starting lineup intact without needing to make a big trade for someone. It means we aren't desperate and we will only make a move if it's fair instead of another GM trying to take us over the coals.
It also means we don't have long term money tied up and can still make a trade if we see fit. We still have all of our assets and depending on the contract will probably still be able to sign another player or two.
Basically, I'd love to have Bledsoe, but if Phoenix is demanding too much, then Rondo will work for 1 year. Then next summer or at the trade deadline we can make a move for another player that is more of a long term fit.
After looking further into Rondo, I love it. Still need shooters. But this is a huge piece, his leadership and toughness is something this team lacks outside of Cousins. And we know he can run an offense.
Thrilled by this news
We finally signed someone!! Not a shooter but at least a vet PG that will make Big Cuz happy.
I would really love him to be leading the 2nd unit with say him, Moore and cousins. Before people go crazy I think Davis or cousins will be on the floor at all times so just saying when cousins in without Davis then Moore and rondo will be with him. I hope one more trade is in the works to have Jrue and Davis have a 3rd wheel when it's just them.
Good stuff. Yea, I think it's safe to say this puts the Bledsoe/Lin/Knight/Reggie Jackson scenarios to rest for now. And we still have that prized 2018 1st to add wing depth and/or dump Asik/Ajinca salary. A straight up Asik+1st for J. Dudley could make a lot of sense for both sides.
League source said DeMarcus Cousins played a "pivotal" role in bringing Rajon Rondo to the #Pelicans.
