how would you try to get a second pick?

I'm a long time reader and first time poster... Just wanted to clarify the false assumption that monty and dell still view rivers as the team's long term answer at the point guard position. I recall shortly after the end of the season dell, monty and mickey loomis held a press conference about the past season, as well as what they expect from next season. Monty was specifically asked by a reporter about austin rivers playing point guard for the team next season. Monty's response was, and I quote "at times" meaning, they do not view rivers as a point guard, although he would play the position at times but he will not be the team's point guard... They also went on to say that they were looking for an upgrade at the position this offseason. So by their comments it should be very obvious that rivers is not the teams point guard of the future but rather a combo guard that will mostly play the off guard position but "at times" playing on the ball. Hopefully that clears things up concerning rivers and the point guard position
I think Saric won't withdraw his name if his agent thinks he'll be in the top half of the first round. Some mocks have him all the way into the second round... I think that's where his consideration is right now. No point in staying in the draft if he's going to be a 2nd rounder... much harder for him to buyout of his contract overseas.
I really like Len, I hope Saric withdraws.
I like Gordon and hope he wants to stay but if he doesn't I'm not giving him away, so I'd still keep Gordon even if we drafted McLemore, Olidipo, or KCP unless a really nice offer came down.
I don't think Rivers would come out saying he feels more comfortable playing point if they didn't plan on him being there. I understood when we drafted him that he would be a couple year project to get acclimated to the position. That is why I think Bledsoe would be perfect. He is under contract for another year and if plays well resign him and Rivers can be first off the bench for either PG or SG. If Rivers excels sign and trade Bledsoe for other valuable assets. If we could run out the next year with Bledsoe, Rivers, Gordon, and KCP I would be happy.
He may be trying to get Demps to bite on a guarantee ... which Demps might be understandably apprehensive to give him unless Saric is #1 overall on his board, which is doubtful. Anyone projected to go top 5 could concievably slip to 6 depending on how the next few weeks go.
After how weak we were at PG this season I really don't want to pass on Burke. Its been awhile since I've seen someone dominate at PG like he did this past year. He was obviously the best player in college basketball this year. He's a winner and a leader. I don't think his upside is limited at all. I really think Burke, Oladipo and McLemore are the only players in this class with star potential and Burke has shown me a lot more than the other two. I hope we take him this year and draft our SF of the future next year. If we take Len or Saric, I'll be pretty disappointed.
Chad Ford:*A lot of NBA execs bummed after Saric news. Several told me they had him in their Top 5 or Top 7
Ford is just regurgitating the Taking the charge interview. I think he would have pulled out already if he was really serious about it and there would have been no reason for him to do that american interview. We'll see as he has a little over a week to decide.
Too many people posting that it's a foregone conclusion that he's withdrawing, which clearly isn't the case at this point.
Thats what gets me. Chad Ford is acting like he already pulled out the draft. We have no idea what the kid isdoing yet.
Here's my guess. Saric got 1 promise from a lottery team, but the problem with that is that it's coming from Dallas who is trying to trade the pick for capspace. So that kills their guarantee. What Saric and his camp is trying to do is make a threat to pull out of the draft in order to get a lottery team give him a promise. This is a strategic move and the timing is perfect as he has just won the championship and played like an MVP.
Saric may very well pull out of the draft if his camp doesn't feel like his chances going to Dallas isn't as high as they want it to be. He may very well pull out at the deadline but I don't believe it's due to him wanting to return to Cibona, I think he wants to get a very high selection to aid him in his buyout.
Here's an interesting blurb on Burke:
And to get a duel perspective with some good and bad:Quote:
Aside from height, Burke has everything you would want in a prospect. He has long arms, quick feet and excellent end-to-end speed. He's one of the fastest players in the country and it's nearly impossible to stay in front of him in transition. At the same time, his 6'5'' wingspan allows him to play bigger than his size on both ends of the floor.

I have more reservations with Burke than I would with most players who score this highly in my models. He has a bad defensive reputation, something that is difficult to capture in the box score, is a bit too dependent on pull-up jumpers, and is smallish even for a point.
Even with that bit of negativity, Burke is clearly my favorite point guard prospect in this draft and I expect him to become a good and possibly even great NBA player. He has the quick first step and handles that, in combination with modern NBA rules, makes elite guards nearly unstoppable. He has a really nice mid-range game. He led a young team through the college tourney. He is a good prospect.
in other news the suns are very interested in shabazz and his offensive potential and could be their potential pick at 5. mclemore or oladipo come on down.
That's not surprising. They want a SG in the worst way.
Things could turn out like this:
1. Porter
2. Mclemore
3. Bennett
4. Noel
5. Shabazz
6. Olaadiiipooo!
If Saric does decide to withdraw we would probably be in a position(late lottery)to take him with next years pick possibly. That would awesome if things worked out that way.
Bazz and Beasley on the same team? Oh man....
Strongly believe trey burke will be the pick if he is there at 6. I believe he'll alleviate any concerns the team might have of him with the private workout for the team next week.
It seems that if we want Burke, chances are he will be there. I'm 95% sure that Burke will be available at 6. It all depends on if we want him.
I believe they do. He was one of the first prospects they interviewed at the combine and he's the first prospect their bringing in for a private workout on the 14th. Not to mention the rumors coming from the FO that they like burke and the flexibilty that he provides for the backcourt.
Is this the same Trey Burke that played at Michigan?
Trey Burke is a better passer and takes better care of the ball than Nelson ever did. Also Burke is longer than Nelson, with an extra 3 inches to his wingspan and an inch taller. As a prospect, I like Burke a bit more than Nelson.
However, I don't see him as an elite point guard either (definitely not Chris Paul), but rather as a guy that's going to be really solid for a long time and probably top 15 at his position for a while. Considering his leadership and toughness (something this team needs more of), I'll gladly take that, especially in this draft.

The one and only.
This Trey Burke at 1:27 that blows by his defender.

Dario Saric officially withdraws from the draft
Good digging, MM. That's a shame, especially since his article got me on board with Saric just yesterday.
Strange he would do this. We've seen enough international guys get drafted and stay put a few years. Why in a year where it's reported he's looked at as top 10 pick would he not want his name in the draft regardless if he thinks he's ready or not?
Either way I think he's way too slow to be a difference maker as a wing player.
Jan Vesely did pretty much the same thing. This isn't unheard of. He just isn't ready.
In other news, Alex Len has now moved up to number 1 on DraftExpress's big board. Wow.
I think he almost has to in order to be an impact player. He doesn't have any advantages as a 3. Average athlete, slightly below average shooter, and he'll be undersized. At the 2 he can use his size and length to his advantage. I think he has enough laterally quickness to stay in front of enough guys where he's not a liability.
Demps has not ruled out the possibility the Pelicans could trade the pick to move up or down, obtain multiple picks or acquire more veterans to improve their roster. Sources say the Pelicans like Burke because he has the potential to get them in their offensive sets quicker and he could provide more versatility in their backcourt that could include starting point guard Greivis Vasquez playing off the ball. -VIA Times Picayune
I'm not too optimistic about Dipo because it seems like Minny really wants to trade up to get him. This came out a lil while ago.
There's still a strong interest from the Wolves in moving up in the June 27 NBA draft to select Indiana guard Victor Oladipo. According to sources, the Wolves have spoken to Oladipo's camp. No workout has been set up, because Oladipo's representatives need sufficient evidence that the Wolves can move up to Orlando's spot at No. 2, Washington's spot at No. 3 or Charlotte's spot at No. 4.
McNamara said yesterday that Dell doesn't even like Oladipo.
