How are you going to have full confidence when you don't fully grasp the system? Like you said a guy who just led the country in scoring should have no issues with his confidence. There is much more to basketball then just saying go out there and shoot when you're open and the confidence will come with it. That's how you get yourself fired and the reason Gentry is a coach and you aren't. Again this whole confidence thing is being severely over rated. It is a factor of course but not nearly as big as some are making it out to be. Sending him to the DLeague to make some shots in a game that doesn't matter to come back to a completely different system is not the best way to boost his confidence and will only set him back. Theee coaches see him everyday and have been doing this for a long time so I'm sure they know a little of what they are doing with Buddy.

I agree having Buddy develop is high on our priority list. But going out in games to fail is not necessarily the best way to develop. Just how thousands and thousands of other players have developed by learning the game and practicing with limited minutes is how Buddy can develop as well. Also developing a player doesn't just happen his rookie year. You draft a player for many years not just one and his development comes along in that process. His time will definitely come and I'd rather it come when he is fully prepared to succeed instead of failing because he didn't have the little things down.

Well, not a fan of Blatt my alias comes from a pun with one of my old nickname, so not related to David Blatt even though I think he's a good basketball mind.
But you're right I'm from Europe, so obviously I make mistake in English and I know about soccer but I'm quite a casual fan, I mostly support my national selection and clubs from my country against others. When I was younger I use to support Juventus Turin and Liverpool but i don't qualify as real fan imo.


Now back to topic.

Every rookie needs to learn from his own mistakes, you always get more experience by doing the thing than by seeing someone doing it. Also I don't remember any example of a star player that didn't have playing time above 15 min in his first year in the league, especially at the age of 22. So let's say that so far I'm not too worried about his early difficulties but if it's still the case after the all-star break it might be, I may start to question the pick.

this whole buddy needs to play thing is reminding me of the time when a lot of posters on here were crying and upset about Marcus Thornton not playing in games that year we started 10-2 or 11-1, something like that.....the team was winning and people were really going in hard that he didnt play......

The GM and gentry went after specific players that they figure fit the system and those veterans were going to get majority of the minutes baring any injuries......buddy has to sit,,learn and wait his time.....the coach see him everyday and if buddy is not ready then so be it.....i dont think gentry is going to be fired this year so if buddy can learn the system and develop slow then by next season we just may have our big 3 in him, AD, and jrue............its to early to be killing gentry about not playing buddy and if we all are going to be honest,,it was bad defense and jrue not playing that stop this team from having a winning record right now.......

Generally people struggle because they aren't allowed to go out and find themselves. How often have you heard players say they love a system because it allows them to play with freedom? Again you not I know if Hield struggles with knowing the system or confidence. However it has to be an issue being on the court knowing that any mistake can get you benched. Just in pick up games I know I play better on teams that I know if I make any mistake I'll be freezed out. Having the freedom to play my game does wonders for my confidence and my shot. Now there's no system in pick up, but the premise is the same.

So he's starting tonight right? If so, good. I say dive right in record be damned. No point on him sitting on the bench for a team winning 33 percent of their games.

There's a huge difference between not playing a second round pick (Thornton) during an 11-0 start and not playing the 6th overall pick in the draft when the team needs all the help it can get. There's no reason why Buddy shouldn't be getting at least 10-15 minutes a night to develop some consistency. I don't think it's the system he's having trouble with, I think he just needs to knock down his shots and continue to gain confidence.

We need to play him we're not going anywhere this year there is not one chance we're gonna sniff the finals so let's get him some playing time we have nothing to lose that we aren't already going to lose

What would coach Pop do?

Imo opinion for now keep him coming off the bench as he progresses until he's fully ready to be the starter that we hope he will turn out to be. I think he should get more minutes as the to help his confidence going forward into next season taking over as a starter.

Buddy's numbers during the month of December: 22.3 MPG, 10.6 PPG, 43% FG, 47% 3PT

Jamal Murray's numbers during the month of December: 18.9 MPG, 6.1 PPG, 35% FG, 24% 3PT

I'm glad all the talk of "We should have taken Murray at 6!" has quieted down lately. Buddy has had a really nice month as a starter and I'm glad Gentry has kept him in the lineup (one of the few positive things Gentry has done this season).

Hope he can complete for Rookie of the Year.

He's going to need a couple 40 point games and to average near 20ppg after the All-Star break to beat Embiid, I'd be more than fine with him being runner up though.

Quieted down is the right word. There's some that care more about being right than the success of the team, so they're waiting for Hield to struggle. Or they're super petty **************s who would love him to get hurt.

I mean I really like what I've seen from. Buddy but Moore and Galloway have also been really solid. It's hard to find minutes for all these guards especially with Tyreke coming back and being a positive contributer too.
