Concerned about what?

my concern is this- if the Rockets don't need to free up salary, does the deal fall apart? I know Woj is never wrong, and he reported it. But if Asik was not a total done deal, that may explain the continued Monroe rumors. And IF that is the case and Asik isn't coming our way, I suspect we would get out-bid for Monroe unless he really did want to come here on a home-town discount (and those never actually happen except in fanboy ESPN trade machine posts) - where would that leave us?
I know it's going to be quiet for a little longer, I'm just losing patience and would feel a whole lot better if another round of Gordon to the Wolves for Martin rumors would start up so we could speculate about the next shoe to drop...
and ps- didn't the 1st round of Martin rumors contain enough Gordon has more value than our fan bases thinks he has tidbits to lessen a little of the 'he's total garbage and we're stuck with him' posts? We know fanbases over-value their own players, but I think we go to the other extreme as well. The Wolves fans sounded like they hated Martin as much as most of ours hate Gordon and would welcome the switch. What does that tell us...
If Houston agrees to a trade only to have it fall apart at this point then no one is going to want to deal with that team again. They have to make this work or risk never having a trade partner again.
This has been explained more than once: if either team pulls out of this trade, they'll be blackballed for years. No one is willing to risk that
absolute worst case scenario, we keep our pick and wait for next years FA. Lots of big men available
Where is this coming from? I can't see a team turning down a deal they think can help the their franchise because some deal fell apart between two teams. Especially not even knowing the details. I can understand why this may cast a bad light on Morey and/or Demps, but I certainly don't think we are going to be blackballed either.
black eye maybe, black balled no. would depend on how 'final' the deal really was, and why it fell apart. and hey, we've got nothing better to do than speculate - so what would we do, go after Emeka again? really hate the stories about Blatche coming out of the Nets these days, want no part of that clown. I had been interested before those stories came out, but not now...
I often wonder if other fan bases are as paranoid as this one.
Terrified deals will fall apart. Scared that if a guy only has one or two years left on his deal that he will bolt. Worried our franchise star will be the first ever to turn down the second contract.
I can't wait until things turn upwards. Being a fan is supposed to be fun!
If Houston nixed the deal, teams will still trade with them. They just won't do any more of these 'handshake' deals during the moratorium period with them because the risk of trusting them to follow through when the moratorium ends would be too high.
We don't have a history of success in a league that hasn't as of now shown to be a fair playing field.
As a person who always comments on the past being a great indicator of the future it's odd to see you mock fans realistic concerns as it pertains to this franchise.
Also who says you can't have concerns and still have fun? As a avid poker player that game is full of concerns doesn't stop me from enjoying it.
The team has just gotten some semblance of stability. With consistent threats of moving and our best players leaving, do you really wonder why a lot of us walk on egg shells? I mean, George Shinn and being league owned would drive the most stable of fans a little crazy.
You should see the Gameday threads. There is a sect of people that NEVER have a thing to say when we're doing well. But let Brees throw a pick 6 or, God forbid, we actually lose? All hell breaks loose.
It's like some people don't get that you can do everything to the best of your ability, still lose, and it not need to be someone's fault. I mean, the 2nd Seahawks game? I felt pretty good after that loss. Pretty upset, sure, cuz I do hate losing in general. But we gave them a great battle in lousy conditions.
As for how long it takes to overcome it? I think we need to start by stringing successful playoff seasons together. Two or three, have Davis sign a long-term deal when his time comes, and the mood would change.
Where does that come from? I have never met a New Orleanian with an inferiority complex. If we do have a complex, it's a superiority complex, and that includes me.
I think I'm better than you, and them... not specifically you, but them... but HELL, I just might be better than you, because I am from New Orleans.
Tomato. Tomato. Thinking you're better than everyone, probably comes from the same place as thinking other people are lording their successes over you anyway. Napoleon Complex, penis envy...whatever you call it. It's the same sorta things just with different triggers.
I know there's a lot of snobbery that goes along with our cooking....but then...everyone elses food does suck, though.
As far as saints fans (no idea but i'd say a good chunk of them are from nola) i've noticed there's a lot of "US AGAINST THE WORLD" and "NO RESPECK". Like, reeeeeeeeeeeeeally a lot. Drew brees does not get mentioned before tom brady in an article about franchise qbs? NO RESPECK! Someone talks about the bucs and doesn't talk as much about the saints? NO RESPECK, US AGAINST THE WORLD, EVERYONE WANTS US DEAD.
Gotta say, fans (soccer fans ofc) in Firenze are actually somewhat like that, now that i think about it :hihi: might be why i fit well enough.
More than an inferiority complex (and yes, there is) there is a distinct paranoia.
And about lakers fans MM...they've been winning forever. Their team is the most famous in the world, it's in LA, and they can go over the luxury tax a billion times over...what should they be worrying about? Even if they don't find a franchise player in the draft, they'll just steal one from another team...lakers fans have nothing to worry about.
I dont have the link, sorry. I thought it was a tweet, maybe it was a quote, anyway, it was in reference to Lin being a little upset (supposedly) about the Rockets creating an image of Carmelo in a Rockets jersey with #7, which is Lin's number. Morey said something to the effect of "I'm sorry if I hurt his feelings, I didn't intend to - but my job is to make the team better. And to aquire Carmelo will require us to dump salary, that's just math.' I don't remember if he specifically said Lin and Asik, or neither. Somebody from this site, Rohan maybe, then tweeted out a concern similar to mine about any implications that might be read in to Morey's comment.
Maybe it is nothing, maybe it is something, don't know, and I wouldn't categorize myself as 'worried' about it either way. I just bored with nothing happening, and speculating is fun, for me anyway. We've had a few days of 'who will we trade to fit Asik' and a few days of 'who would fit as SF with Asik, so why not some time with 'if not Asik, then what?'
I can't really disagree with anything you just said. But i do think a little paranoia, a little fear is a good thing. It keeps you on your toes.
Now in sports, what do you expect from fans who have suffered as long as Saints fans have, if you look at any teams who have been the losers or laughing stock of any sport/league, there fans all have the same vibe.
Can't trust that anything good is going to happen and if it does, won't believe that it can last.
When they're finally convinced that it's real, they want their team to be seen, heard, basically just acknowledged on a larger platform. You want to see your team highlights on ESPN in HD, and not have to just hear Fletcher fletchin, sorry Fletch.
Some people around here just want the good things to happen so bad, and the bad things to be gone so badly, that when they don't see things come to light they do the only thing they can do... complain, and take half empty approach.
This Asik deal is done, and a move for the greater good took place to make it happen, and lesser moves will follow. That's what i believe. Oh, Zombies dance:eek:
Being a fan in New Orleans is fun. I don't think it is any different in NOLA than it is in most other cities. Every fan base has a wide array of different types of fans that react differently to various situations. Just because someone on a website forum asks a question, it should nont be assumed that the entire fanbase has an inferiority complex or is paranoid.
If you want to see paranoia, go look at some Cleveland message boards.
But it's true that Nola fans have a bit of an inferiority complex and tend to be overly defensive towards the city.
