The Cavs and hornets deal just went through. I guess Hopson will get waived then Pelicans pick him up to trade to Houston for Asik!

Not how it would work. If he is waived, they don't get his fake contract, which is what they need to make the Asik deal.

They need Charlotte to re-route him here and then package that with our other fake contracts for Asik. At least, that was the plan. Who knows if Houston is trying to do things slightly differently with their latest developments. NOTHING BIG. Just a little tweak here or there.

Summer League and World Cup. We will wake everyone when its official.

That is the day and place of the Asik press conference, at least as of a few days ago. We were told it couldn't go through until then because some NG contracts had to be acquired and added to Ely, etc. Still haven't heard anything new to say otherwise.

Just gotta wait now. Thanks to everyone for decoding the terrible riddle by me. That was quality entertainment and a way to get through this waiting period.

Side note: I think I made a mistake. US Senator clue was supposed to refer to Jack Kemp (who was #15) but I think he was a COngressment. Oops!

I went to high school and played basketball with Mason and his brother Jacob for a year while they were displaced after Katrina, I can attest he has no resign to lie or make stuff up.

Wizards will take non-guaranteed contract of Melvin Ely from NO & get $8.5M TPE for Ariza, who will do sign and trade to go to Houston.

Pelicans will get Asik, Omri Casspi & 1.5M from Houston. Rockets get Ariza from Wizards, Alonzo Gee and 2015 protected first from Pelicans.

so to summarize... we get a starting C... a player who can fill the gap in our SF situation and didn't have to give up any of Ryno/Rivers/EG/Babbitt/Withey

edit: take Babbit out of that b/c we may still have to give him up somehow to make this happen... but still we kept the big pieces

Casspi is an average three point shooter. It's kind of a funny reuniting between he and Reke who played together in SAC. Casspi didn't get minutes in the playoffs last year. He's a decent third string SF option. Definitely not a guy you want getting major minutes. He shoots most of his threes from the wings which I don't like so much as a good corner three shooter. You could do worse, and it is good to see a small forward who is at least an average shooter on the roster. I do like his shot selection. It's almost all threes and shots at the rim, but what else would you expect from a player Morey traded for?
If we keep Babbit Casspi and he would be decent backups. Hopefully we can find a decent one with the room.

I don't know about that yet - specifically Babbit or Ajinca.

But the good news is that we got a SF and still have our Room Exception to add another

We are almost definably going to have to give up Babbitt. The deal doesn't work otherwise.

Yeah I'd be very surprised if he's our starter. I don't think he's bad, but I'd be a little disappointed if he started even if he's only getting 20-25 mins. I hope we get someone else too, and I believe we will.

Per Mason we still have to send out 2.3mil additional in salary for the trade to work (besides Ely+Gee).

Brian Roberts being added to this via S&T would work. Babbitt and Hopson would work. Rivers would work, but I am sure he would have been reported. Ajinca and Babbitt would be close (gotta check the numbers).
