What him guarding the tallest guy on defense when he starting got to do with him camping in the paint on offense
Only way to get a dramatic rise in rebounding numbers is to be spending way more time in the paint. Rebounding occurs on offense too, whoever is playing the 5 needs to be in the paint on offense at least some of the time. Casting Trey Murphy as the the rim protector guarding centers is some out of the box thinking for sure. It's not the obvious or logical choice.
Why he can’t he’s 610 and athletic and got room to put on a lil muscle and he wouldn’t be relied on getting rebounds offensively because he would be on the court to shoot the 3s everyone love so much our offensive rebounds likely would come from the guys mainly attacking the paint
Why not have Brandon Ingram guard centers too then they are about the same height and he has room to put on a little muscle too. Offensive rebounding isnt going to happen without somebody gaining position and boxing out in the paint. Zion likes to play face up and attack the paint from the top of the key, we haven't seen him as effective controlling the post and he would be the guy expected to do it... I'm not opposed to the small ball lineup for some minutes and some matchups but I do think its conceding the offensive glass and one of the reasons why we shouldn't play that way for a large portion of the game. I also don't believe that Trey Murphy can hold up defensively against bigs better than Zion.
Depends on match ups. Against guys like Chet, Sengun and Sabonis, Zion can easily guard them, as can BI, Trey or Herb for that matter.
Against bigger guys like Gobert, Zubac it's more of a problem, but the offense won't run through them very much at all.
With guys like Wemby and Jokic, I don't think anyone has great solutions so I'm not sure it matters that much. You'll be doubling them anyway.
Most night I think the Pels can easily play 20-25 minutes with no true center on the floor. It's one reason I'm not uptight about the roster.
lol funny thing is Brandon did guard a few centers last year Jarret Allen being one of them and he did pretty good
Trey is already bigger than Brandon when it comes to weight
And this is one of the reasons I find it funny how everyone is screaming pay trey the big bucks and the only responsibility y’all want him to have is shoot 3s not rebound and defend being 610
If Trey can’t guard someone like Chet atleast moderately how much money does he really deserves
3pt shooters aren’t hard to find truthfully
Is it October yet? Asking for a friend...
Theis was quite good against team USA the other day. After seeing him in the Olympics and the rookies in summer league I'm not freaking out about the center position any more.

The New Orleans Pelicans signed Karlo Matković to a three-year, $5.65 million deal, which is fully guaranteed for the first two seasons and includes a third-year team option, league sources told
@hoopshype
Bringing Trey Jemison back is huge for this team. I think the roster is set now. Jemison can definitely hold his own.
The irony of our brass saying we wanna play small and fast.... And carrying 4 centers. But I get it we are rolling w 4 hoping two can be good
You really just need a competent 5 so I think we are in a decent spot now. Jemison is a good pickup. Ideally we would have a true backup 4, but you can feature one of your mobile centers or wings there these days. There are no excuses really. We have to get results. We now have a star PG. On paper we have the deepest roster in the league. We got Jemison and Theis- two capable big men plus two promising big men behind them. Willie has to get this right. I wish him luck.
I can dig it. I think we're currently a 50 to 55 win team IF we stay relatively healthy. Not the favorites to win the West but also not out of the question. If we trade BI for Ayton I think we're 55 to 60 wins and the favorites in the West.....a trade for Allen or Kessler and I think we're back to 50 to 55 because as much as we would sure up the 5 we would be losing our Big 3.
I'd rather have BI on this team than Ayton... Ayton has a questionable mentality and his best attribute is what he does on offense with the ball in his hands. Im excited to see this team as it is now tbh. Theis just put up another solid outing in the Olympics today!
Just realized the Grizz waived Jemison in order to sign Huff, that guy who took over the game against us in summer league. I was thinking we should have signed that guy he was doing it all.
Any updates on Jose’s injury at the Olympics?
Maybe Cleveland wants to do this trade for Ingram afterall? Neither DFS nor Cam are scorers they're more defenders. Cleveland needs another wing scorer. Makes sense for them to go after BI whether they trade Okoro or not.Quote:

The Cavaliers and Nets have conducted dialogue around a potential sign-and-trade trade featuring Isaac Okoro for Dorian Finney Smith, per @MikeAScotto (hoopshype.com/lists/cavalier…).
Cleveland has also expressed trade interest in Cam Johnson. pic.twitter.com/JKNecJSQAZ – 7:04 PM

Cryptic!
Good breakdown by Alex
this is why I am skeptical about the Murray - BI - Herb - Zion - Center lineup that everyone thinks we will go with as the starters. The Pels were in the bottom third of the league last year in 3 point volume. That is not a recipe for success, and its going to get worse with that lineup. The guy in the video is right that both Zion and BI are more effective when they have teammates who provide spacing via catch and shoot 3s. We just so happen to have 2 guys on the team who are great at that: CJ is an elite high volume catch and shoot 3 point guy and Trey Murphy is up there as well. And yet we want to put them both on the bench in favor of having the midrange guys all operating out there together? I don't see it.
The only time we've ever had a PG (Lonzo Ball) paired with BI, he averaged 33% more threes. BI was also calling for a PG at the end of the season. There's a lot of growth that needs to happen for our young players between playing the game a little different, playing through injuries, coming into the season in shape, shaking up the team where we finally have a PG, etc where we really have to wait until the season starts to see how all those variables will change the equation because there are so many of them.
There's still the strange reality that Zion, BI, and CJ have spent more time as teammates not playing together then actually playing together. Murray orchestrating things has a good chance of bringing everything together.
We won’t know anything until the season actually starts. I’m not 100 percent sold on Green as the right coach for this squad, but I like him and think it would be cool for a young guy like him to challenge the elite coaches. As for the squad- it can work. Will it work with Willie? It’s about compromise really. He will probably have to change his tendencies as will some of the players. It isn’t just BI. It’s CJ, Zion and others as well. We are an interesting squad. We really aren’t that much worse off at the 5 than we were after Lance fell off. Backup 4 isn’t even 100 percent necessary in the modern game when you can use wings and big men to fill that gap. Naji is a big loss as is Dyson, but as others said it forces Willie to work with what he’s got and make the players at his disposal better. For whatever reason Dyson was a black hole on offense (I don’t think it was all his fault though) so it was probably for the best that he move on. I just feel like he limited the growth of this team under Willie.
Zion is happy with him here so Ingram goes nowhere.

Did anybody see Germany vs France? Curious to get opinion about how well Theis held up against Wembanyama and Gobert.
He held his own in all of these matches. I think Theis is going to be a pleasant surprise. He just knows where to be on both ends of the floor.
Seeing that Wembenyama struggled against Germany, if Theis can handle that match up defensively while still getting rebounds, it's an indication that we are in pretty good shape. And he's making free throws and threes when called upon too. Daniel Theis I was not familiar with your game, I apologize!
My biggest concern is rebounding.
Good conversation here... they mention a potential BI trade with Utah for Collins and Kessler. Would you guys make that trade for those 2 players with no picks?
No. Collins is an overpaid PF. Kessler is a solid center, but BI is the far superior player. At the trade deadline if BI still wants $50 million a year, and that is the best deal on the table, sure. We have enough bodies at center to find a couple decent players. Kessler is a level above what we have, but he isn’t a top tier center.
Zion posted on Instagram looking thinner than I have ever seen him. His father says he is below his college weight. Might be a fast start to the season this year...
Looks like we're signing Jevonte Green.

Matt Ryan waived!
Sources: The New Orleans Pelicans are waiving wing shooter Matt Ryan. Ryan averaged 5.4 points and shot 45.1 percent from 3-point range in 13 minutes a night over 28 games for Pelicans last season. pic.twitter.com/gbc2bZCRkK

I've always liked Elfrid. This gives more credence to TMIII being traded.
It really doesn't. That was a joke.
Very interesting video. Thought?
