Er, sorry ma'am, but that was the point. I'm italian so whilst my english is not bad at all (hell, i'm an interpreter and translator, it better be not bad at all) i don't really know all the common sayings like this "under the weather" thing. I'm sorry to have annoyed you, but that was not my intention
But geez, people can get so touchy nowadays
this kind of posts make me realize that the injuries are the blessing for monty as they become the excuse for him. one should be able to evaluate the coach under any circumstances. you don't have to look at the standings to evaluate the coach. there are so many reasons monty should be fired that i am too lazy to list and you could see them when everybody was healthy and you can see them now (maybe you don't but you should)
there are many people here that seem to have impressive knowledge about basketball; however, it seems they underestimate the coaching job. having a good coach can turn things around. ok when so many key players are injured maybe a coach like that does not provide playoffs but he knows how to use this time to improve the team by developing young players, trying new schemes...
now i am not sure if i can explain well what i want to say but let me try. a good coach should be able to things that are the best for the team. We, fans, have some ideas what should be done. if a coach does something that seems weird to us or just wrong but at the end of the day we go like "wow this was a great move" - this is what i call a good coach - smarter than us when it comes to basketball. now as far as pelicans are concerned we fans seem to be almost unanimous regarding certain things then monty does something else and it seems that his solutions just don't work.
I see this statement a lot from the Monty defenders. Why? What has Monty done this season or accomplished in season's past to make you want an ENTIRE SEASON again to judge him?
It's a blind, blanket statement that has very little merit. The upside is minimal. You're basically throwing a "hail mary" that everything we've seen to date is a mirage and our team becomes competitive next season. Even if Monty can get us into the playoffs, do you honestly think he's good enough for a top 4 finish or a 7 game series?
The downside is massive. This city has another year of being told next year is the year we start winning, and our incompetent coach has us missing the playoffs again. There's the equivalent of 12k season tickets this year. Keep Monty and see what that number is next year. It will drop to 7-8k I'm guessing with Monty at the helm again. God forbid, we are all right and Monty can't get us into the playoffs with another year of having Anthony Davis, and I fear that we start seeing articles again about the viability of basketball in the city.
Davis is the only thing keeping this ship from sinking right now. The kid is that special.
The random people (that are attending their first or second game of the season in the arena) sitting around us are whining about our coach. It's not a joke. 2 guys directly behind me and 2 to the right attended their first games of the season Saturday night. Needless to say, they weren't impressed with much besides AD.
I kind of hope we lose today game again then there should be some "fire Monty" chant. History NEXT DOOR IN THE SUPERDOME tells that we were a mess without Sean Payton last year even if we had Drew Brees. But with Sean's return and Rob's coming, we are much better.
Just get a new coach we may still have some chance for getting into playoff. Yes, there are injuries. But if the team just give up whatever offensive method gives them most scores that's the coach's fault. It's clear to me (and I am sure also to many other people), Withey was playing good : less fouls, good in both sides, but the coach put him on bench after some great performance; Austin Rivers has been much more helpful to the team because he sees things, does not sticky to the ball, brings more energy to the court therefore when he was there, we had more weapons to get points, but the coach sticks to BR.
Monty is playing "us against most of the world" now, I have to say, he has a big heart in stick to himself.

There has never been a point this season where everyone was healthy. We started the season with Tyreke dealing with a lingering ankle injury that has affected him all year. Ryno was hurt to begin the year; and Gordon had a minor injury at a point in the season, as well as AD who broke his hand, Stiesmma, and Smith both had injuries as well. I think a part of Monty's bad rotations is due to his fear of players getting injured. We have to admit that he always seems frustrated and based on his luck as a coach dealing with injuries every season, he has probably been affected mentally by all of them. Obviously he should get over that, but there has been a major injury every year of his tenure. Including year one with D. West.
That was simple yes or no question... but here's the thing.
It doesn't matter who "carries" them during the game the fact is they are playing against real good teams and the games are competitive. The front office sees this. Hell the league sees this. And everybody knows how that this team is young, and also riddled with injuries. The head coach gets the props for his team playing tough even in this situation.
Fans have their opinions but THEY DON'T MATTER!
I honestly think we could use a new/better coach (for in-game reasons) but with the personnel we have now it won't matter, because we can bring in Phil friggin Jackson and it won't change the fact that we're still young with a ton of injuries.
I hate to keep bringing up the contract part, but Monty just signed a new deal that won't expire for a couple years. Sure we're losing games, but the team is playing close games against real good teams even with all of the injuries and youth, and player playing out of position.
Y'all crap on the dude when we lose, but won't give him props when we win, nor do y'all prop the guy for losing a close game to a team we had no business being in the same gym.
Again... you or I as fans... DO NOT MATTER. Maybe one day y'all will realize this. All you can do is stop going to the games, and that won't matter either.
This isn't the NFL and it's revenue sharing system. The Pelicans need fan support and advertising/endorsement dollars.
Also, it DOES matter who carries the team because everyone keeps saying this team doesn't have talent when pretty much every advanced metric known to man has Anthony Davis as a top 10 (top 5 for some) player in the league.
Yeah, the front office and league do see this. They see we have a 20 year old man-child and wish he was on their team.
Talking about choking some leads too. We had the lead vs Spurs with Duncan fouled out in middle of 4th and we some how lose. Then we blow like a 20 pt lead to the Rockets. Warriors looked drained and worn out Sat night and we still find a way to lose that one. Can't forget about the blowout loss to Washington in earlier of the month. I know Portland is winning the games they are suppose to win right now.
I can tell you from personal experience that is 100% incorrect. The team has their ear to the ground the best they can. The reps read this site, BSS, thebirdwrites, and td.com. I sent an e-mail to [email protected] and received a call on my cellphone from my STH rep an hour later. The funny part is my post had already been sent to the higher ups before I elaborated on it in e-mail form with a more defined opinion.
What exactly does the team have to gain from ignoring their fans' opinion? Nothing. Everyone has their opinions and if you don't find your avenue to voice them than that opinion goes unheard. Every business would rather hear the unhappiness from their clients/do the best they can to fix their concerns, instead of seeing their clients up and leave without telling them why. It's common sense.
Yes. The reps are salesmen. But I received a call an hour later! I didn't ask to be contacted. I'm not even one of the bigger fish accounts-wise. But I got that call anyways.
The fans opinion does indeed matter. Saying the fans opinion does not matter is the most moronic thing I have ever heard. People are spending thousands of dollars on this and all they ask for is a good product. The Pelicans and Saints front office does do a good job responding to fans concerns at least from my experience calling them. I mean come on common sense says they(front office) need fan input to know what they are doing right and wrong.
I see both sides of this argument, but I believe this one stat will show that he may deserve another year. The Pels, I believe, are 9-4 this year in games where both Anderson and Davis played. When our top 2 scorers play, we have a record that equates to 56.7 wins over an 82 game season. The fact is he has only had his top 2 scorers in the same game 13 times this year. That isn't even taking into account the injuries to Smith, Reke and Jrue!
Will the fans pay Monty's salary after he gets canned? and is owed 2 or 3 years on his contract? Talk about moronic lol. Fans have input yes, but not when it comes to coaching decisions. Especially when fans don't contribute to the dude's paycheck.
Now maybe in a year or 2 the fans may oust him, but the ink just dried on this contract, AND throw in his "excuses", then you're looking at least one more year of Monty.
I hear this argument and the injury argument a lot. From a basketball sense though, I never hear any real arguments that make sense. Our offensive rating with Anderson was through the roof, but our defense suffered. Essentially, we become an "ok" version of the D'Antoni Suns with no proof that it's sustainable over an 82 game season as we beat two teams over that stretch worth anything, one of which (Denver) was on a serious skid when we tagged em.
The argument simply boils down to risk vs. reward. Does the risk of going through another season where we miss the playoffs with Monty at the helm and AD in his prime outweigh the reward that maybe another coach could come in and reinvigorate the franchise and it's fan base? That's the part that I have legitimate beef with. I don't think any of us are saying it's impossible for Monty to become a legitimate head coach down the line (although we might have our opinions/guesses). I think most of us just think that he is not there right now.
Simple math disputes this claim. Say season tickets were to drop from the 12k now to 9k next year with Monty or 11k next year with a big name head coach (Karl/Van Gundies/Smart). The gate receipts alone at an average of $1000/ST is $2 million. I have no idea how the endorsement deals work. If attendance goes in to how much they're paid, or the amount of ST's affects the amount a company will pay annually (logical), that figure stands to jump even higher. Than, factor in concessions, merchandise, and parking for those 2000 people. Not to mention the amount of people watching games on TV goes into the amount they can charge people for advertising on that median.
That's a lot of money man. A fact that I assure you is not lost on the people that keep track of the team's finances.
Your tone came off as being sarcastic and I'm sorry I misinterpreted you. I've been a member on this forum for a long time and the maturity level has hit an all time low. That's why I don't participate often and I expect the worst when I see replies. Sorry again and I'm back to lurking.
