Sure, but you're considering politics. I've already mentioned that I think there would be other negative politics with trading Zion for KD.
Purely from an on-court, performance + fit perspective, would you make that trade?

there's no question that BI shocked most of us - not just with his game but mostly with his character. I had nothing against CJ but he similarly shocked me in turning out to be practically the world's best team-mate in about 10 seconds. Add Herb, Jose, Trey, JV... this team is just seriously likable. I don't want to lose that. Even if it means POSSIBLY winning one title before it all breaks apart. No thanks.
My opinion, 2 great players...it would just depend on which one you liked the most. I, personally, have much more of a problem with some of LeBron's "stuff" so I might take Durant BUT not LeBron. Also...From what little I've seen of the Pels, I would be much more comfortable trading Zion for Durant...than trading BI, even though Zion might be the better player.
if zion is the key piece in the trade of KD (or dae's lebron hypothetical) then for sure I am listening and inclined to take it. hayes, kira, temple and graham couldn't go out quick enough to make it happen. effectively kd or lebron for zion and a pick? laughing. if it doesn't happen, I'm fine too, but if kd wanted in and happy to buy into it then lets roll.
If y’all knew for a fact Zion has a high likelihood be seriously injured again, would y’all be more open to trading him?
Lebron and KD are 2 different players. Lebron is ball-dominant, and will relegate everybody else on the court to "stand in the corner and watch" guys. While KD can play ISO ball he has played in a system that shares the ball and he plays off the ball way more than Lebron ever has.
That's fair. I was just curious to pitch it to the people on here because almost everyone I've spoken to in real life and on twitter has said no, despite there being (in my mind) more similarities than differences between the two scenarios in terms of what they add to the team with regards to raised ceilings. So I found it interesting that most people who say yes to Durant say no to Lebron, despite the fact that the outcome between the two would most likely be similar imo.
For me its just their style of play. If we had a team full of vets that were mostly 3nD/catch and shooters, then maybe Lebron would be a better option. But we have a team full of young guys that share the ball, and a couple playmakers would also be on the floor (assuming BI and CJ stay). We don't need Lebron and his high usage and ball-dominance. Lebron has never in his damn near 20 years in the league shown that he can play primarily off the ball. He's never been a catch-n-shoot guy.
But Durant... even in OKC showed that he can be a part of an offense rather than be THE offense. And yes the outcome could possibly be the same but we'd be much more lethal offense with KD.
With all of that being said I don't think we should make the trade. While KD hasn't necessarily been a "problem" I just don't want to mess with the culture that Willie has built.
A couple years ago Shamit would crap on BI every chance he got. If BI had a very negative basic box +/- or negative net rating he'd screen shot it.
However, would be totally silent if he had good game.
If you take someone like that seriously then that's on you.
Please do trade either Zion or BI for KD.
You only make that trade if someone wants out and I don’t think that’s the case
KD feels like AD to me. I would never trust he would be here for more than a year before forcing his way out. I would trust those in the know if Zion wants to be here or at least does for 3-4 years. If so I can't make the trade. KD on a 4 yr contract doesn't mean much it seems in this day and age. If KD had us listed in his top three and Zion was still distant it would be different. Zion has been here this summer and doing the right things though
We could get KD and then trade him if it doesn’t workout and still get a decent haul back. Imagine next summer trading him for any of these packages being offered.
Anything that is negative, critical, or goes against the popular narrative is written off as trolling
Durant is definitely top 10 all time player and he is very much the most gifted scorer of all time. His length is unbelievable. I'm not big on his attitude, but you can't hate his work ethic or dedication to basketball. Playing for the title and getting hurt was a big deal to me, didn't think he had that in him.
I don't want to trade anyone for him, but frankly Zion had to be convinced last year to be a halfway decent teammate and show up and his family isn't gonna change. Griff knows far better how likely Zion is to stay here happily and healthy for the next 4 years. If Durant wants to come then you got to consider that and Zion attitude is a huge consideration..
I also know KD will be able to fit in to any system basketball wise and he will play defense. I'm unsure how Zion will fit into BI's team. No way I trade Ingram but Zion is definitely a concern for me on every level so I'm open to that at the least.. wish I was not though. Wish Zion and his family were happy here and model team players dedicated to just winning and being here and making it work no matter what. I just don't get that feeling now and I'm not sure I ever will. I think he was excited by our team at the end of the year, but damn it's easy to be on board when things are going great. Ingram and the guys got on board when things were a disaster and MADE them great..
To get there without BI or Zion, the trade would have to be something like
Jonas, Graham, Temple, Hayes, Kira and then the Pels could offer some combo of the 6 picks they can trade (their own in 23, 25, 27, 29 plus Lakers 24/25 and Bucks 27) plus I would guess at least one of Trey, Herb, or Daniels
If they put all/most of that on the table, you can probably get KD via a 3 teamer where some of those picks and players go to a third team for an established star.
Let?s say you had to give up 1 of the players in that deal - Herb, Trey, or Dyson - which one would you choose?
When you put 6 firsts on the table, guys become available. Especially in a year when the draft appears to be strong and making your own pick better is such a bonus. Honestly don’t know, but at some point Brooklyn is gonna have to say yes to someone. And if you have a young star, the odds that you can send him to Brooklyn for KD and still be great is probably pretty small. But you can go the other way and trade that young star and get a boatload of picks AND make your own pick better. Utah would make the most sense, but they’d have to take Simmons too for it to work
Something like
Nets get: Donovan Mitchell, Jonas, Bogdanovic, Kira, Hayes, 2 picks and 3 swaps
Jazz get: Ben Simmons, Temple, Graham, 4 firsts
Pels get: KD
Jazz get 4 more firsts plus probably drop way down in the standings. Also gets Simmons to rehab his value. Now have an arsenal of picks to rebuild with under Ainge. Eventually get more when they ship Simmons in a year or two
Nets get Mitchell as the face of the franchise plus some other vets to be respectable as they build back up. Have picks and swaps plus probably the picks they get from Lakers in Kyrie trade.
Pels unload the war chest of picks and swaps and have their big 4 of CJ, BI, Zion, and KD. Kept young, cheap talent plus Nance as a reserve. Now, gotta go use the taxpayer MLE and get guys on minimums to fill out the roster. Give yourself a 4 year title window with that big 4 if you are willing to pay the tax all four years. Then at the end of that window, the hope would be Zion and BI are the best duo in the league and now Herb, Daniels, and Trey are studs too and you go on with that version the way SA transitioned from Del Negro, Avery, Elliot, etc to Manu and Tony.
If the Pels draft capital can just land you Donovan Mitchell outright, I think my question is why do you need the middleman?
Devil's advocate would say KD and Donovan both unlikely to stay that long but one is younger and more likely to stay healthy during a long season.
Mitchell isn’t a fit. I would take old KD on this roster all day over young Mitchell
I just don’t see the team trading Dyson and 6 first round picks. 4 maybe. Name a team that traded 6 firsts for 1 player. Kinda silly.
Herb, Temple, Graham, Kira, Hayes, and 3 firsts
For:
KD
Harris
-Would rather trade Trey instead of Herb
You can’t post trades if you don’t understand the CBA and basic salary matching. Thems the rules
If you’re getting KD and you have to trade one of Herb, Trey, or Dyson, I think you trade Herb. But from a fan perspective I’d rather trade Dyson since I have zero attachment to him. Sorry dude, hardly know you!
Herb might be at the peak of his value. Thybulle is the cautionary tale for me. 76ers have seen his trade value decrease, not increase over the last 18 months. And he’s going to need to be paid sooner than the other 3. I jumped through hoops to get a Herb Jones jersey shipped internationally, so this pains me, but if they don’t take Dyson I part with Herb before I part with Trey. I have more confidence in Trey adding and sustaining above average defense on top of elite shooting than I do in Herb improving beyond where he’s currently at offensively.
I will repost this here with another first since the Gobert trade has set the precedent.
KD
For
JV, Graham, Temple (filler), Dyson Daniels, and 4 unprotected 1sts (Pels 2023, Lakers 2024/2025, Pels 2026, Bucks 2027)
MM
You think it's a chance we keep one of the young guys if we trade for KD and not include BI or Z? I want to at least keep Dyson but I can't see it lol
Ainge basically said he wasn’t moving either dude, and meant it, until someone overpaid for one of them. If someone doesn’t overpay, he won’t move him. If they do, he will. Similar to the Thunder and Paul George. They weren’t looking to trade him but somebody comes to you with a deal like that, you can’t say no.
If you don’t get a huge offer, keep him and trade him later. Mitchell won’t be on the team two years from now and everyone involved knows that. But they aren’t “looking to move him” now
How complicated would Ayton signing his qualifying offer make things for Suns and Nets? I want maximum chaos!
I only got....
Graham
Larry
Kira
Temple
Jax
Up to 5 1st round picks.
For KD.
*Shrug*
Tell me there is a real better deal. No rebuilding team wants a 34 year old Superstar. No contender have an all star asset to move. And frankly... I don't care.
If we gonna make this trade. We have to win now. So, low ball on talent it and overload with unprotected picks. Empty the War chest.
This is the only way I do it.
