Asik turns 29 in 3 days...
Lets not freak til we see the contract, money, incentives, and if the 5th year is player or team option. Dell is very good with the cap. See ryno and tyreke.
If we sign Asik to say a 10mill yr deal how much $ would be left to spend taking in account Asiks "cap exceptions" associated with his contract? Anyone know
Good point. I can't lie, I was pretty irked about the Anderson deal at first. Obviously it was a steal in hindsight, but I was too fresh from those damned Peja heads to think clearly about it. The only bad deal Dell has ever signed was the Gordon match, but I think a majority of us agreed that it was a necessary evil at the time. Even that deal is looking pretty damn sweet for us right now.
Agreed, and with gordon, that was a contract u had to match. Gordon was viewed as a 22 point 4 assist per game player with good defense at only 22 years old. If not for injuries he would have been the next great sg. Dell made the correct move, it just didn't work out. But it did land us this game named anthony davis.
Damn you Dell...
5 years for Omer? Yuck.
I'm afraid we didn't really have a choice though.
I hope that contract is not so big that it influences Asik's role on the team. It's good to have a guy like him on the roster but there are a lot of intriguing lineup combinations available to the Pelicans with Asik on the bench.
Omer Asik is finalizing a five-year, $60M deal to return to the New Orleans Pelicans, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.
5/60
Keep in mind we don't know the options or guaranteed amounts yet.

Had a bad feeling it would be 60. That's bad.
yuck
5 years wth? I'm fine with 12m but not at 5 years I feel like that is way too long. If he turns out to be what he should though I guess the 5 years isn't a bad deal at all. We have a legit center who can take the beating off of Davis and will be 33 when the contract expires. So by the end of the contract is right when he would most likely start declining. It's not my favorite deal but it's not a bad one and could be a very good one depending on how he looks in this system.
Tyson Chandler signed a 4yr/52m contract that won't end until he turns 40 years old. . .
Not sure how to feel right now. Admittedly im ignorant about the cap increase, but with not all of it being guaranteed I'm optimistic we'll still be able to move him next season if he has another underwhelming season/playoff performance.
McNamara wanted Asik back too. :hihi: :biglol:
Can someone explain this whole non-guranteed money thing? Does it count against the cap?
12mil was kinda what I expected, and it might not all be guaranteed? that's not a bad deal IMO, pretty reasonable
I'm gonna refrain from having a definitive opinion until after MM sheds light on what our cap space could look like next off-season. I know he's been the biggest Asik advocate & I've always chalked that up to him being a pelicans writer, but I'm just lost right now haha.
By the 5th year the cap will be about 100 mill anyway, I don't think the Asik deal hinders us too much especially with all the other contracts coming off the books over the next 2 seasons.
Disappointed...
after hearing ajinca signed, i was hoping asik would be gone.... damn
Front court is loaded, now if the Pelicans can land a decent wing player the roster will be looking well rounded.
Man 12 million a year was the ceiling I wanted to pay. 5 years is about 2 years more then I had hoped under that scenario.
I have a feeling Asik was carrying a back injury most of last year and if he's healthy we'll see an improved version next season, especially offensively.
It's just the damned length of the contract that worries me. In an ideal world, we get the Asik from two years ago, which IMO is still not enough for a contender, but enough that his being locked up long-term makes him a more valuable trade asset.
I actually think its a good deal. 12m for a starting center. Plus not all is guarenteed and there are incentives. I like it. And supposedly he was playing last year thru back pain.
12 mil a year will seem like the mle is a few years. Good deal dell.
Anyone have some sturdy rope that can hold about 195-200lbs of dead weight? Just asking.... for a friend

Its worrisome for me because in 5 years how different is the league going to look? How is AD going to look? What if Ajinca takes off and we are stuck with Asik getting few minutes??
I'll wait til the details but I am honestly a little shocked we paid that much/ that many years.
Lol, if the 5th year is a team option i love the deal
Ya complain way too much
