I think the 8.3M comes of off Aminu, GS, Ely and Smith :D

@Jonathan_Feigen: Asik trade cannot be official until after tomorrow's draft, if Pels clear cap room that quickly. If not then, have to be in July.
I think this pic represents all Pelicans fans right now

LOL.....it already had Asik as a Pelican on Wikipedia.
Where the hell is MM to answer all our questions!!!!
Basically if we can move something like 7 or 8 mil by tomorrow then the deal will be finalized after the draft. If not it won't be complete until July 10th I believe.. Atleast that's how I'm understanding it.

Houston Chronicle guy says top 10 protected.
He's been all over this on the twitter
Love it!
So much for voting for Blatche or Seraphin in the MLE torny.
I Wish the pick was better protected
pj tucker time
Dell Demps Doing Work
Seems the pick is protected for us to keep if it is within the top 2/3 of the lotto or 20+. Houston would get in between. Does that mean it is possible we give up nothing if it falls where we would keep it?
If we don't make the playoffs next season, then we have much bigger problems than losing a pick in the 11-14 range. If we do make the playoffs (which we should), then the protection of top-10 or lottery protected doesn't even matter.
The 1st domino of the James/Melo free agent hunt. We get a starting center @ a 8.3M cap hit for a mid-low 1st rounder. Good deal to start the offseason!
this is AWESOME.
We get a top 3 rebounding and defensive center in the league, who is 27.
I remember last year when they had 3 people write articles saying if you could go with any center in the NBA for your team who would you pick, 1 guy said dwight, 1 said noah, 1 said Asik, because he is young, a phenomenal post defender and one of the best rebounders.
This is a great move.
If we resend the contracts of our free agents wouldn't that count as shedding enough salary to make this deal work?
Zach Lowe:
"Pick to HOU has Lowry-style reverse protections, per source. NOP keeps if in top 2/3 of lottery, and if it's 20-plus. In b/w, goes to HOU"
QUESTION
can we still use the MLE on tucker or no? If so our team will be stacked defensively.
You guys should really show a bit more skepticism. Washington got Gortat (probably a better player) on a more team friendly contract, with better protection on the pick, from a team not desperate to get rid of him.
ESPN:
"The draft pick included in the deal has protections. It will go to the Rockets if it falls between picks 4-19, sources said."

As was mentioned this won't go through until July, but could we "use the cash" we got from Houston to buy a pic tomorrow?
I would like to see how the protection is altered in future years if we get to keep the pick
I said it earlier, but I'll say it again. Houston is clearing up space for Carmelo or Lebron. I only hope Carmelo chooses Chicago. And Lebron choose... anywhere in the east hopefully. Asik is a damn nice grab, but I really would not want Houston to get Melo or James. That would be poop.
Wish the pick was better protected, but given what Demps is trying to do it's a good deal.
Just feel like it's not enough to get the team where I would like in the future. Seems like we have completely sold our future for now and I don't feel that all the parts gets us out of the 1st round. But again all in all Asik is a good player at a position/role of need.
I'm not like this pick throw away thing
Pick to HOU has Lowry-style reverse protections, per source. NOP keeps if in top 2/3 of lottery, and if it's 20-plus. In b/w, goes to HOU
— Zach Lowe (@ZachLowe_NBA) June 26, 2014
so that's what... if it falls around the 13-20 range it goes to HOU... anywhere before or after it stays w/ NOP
The parameters necessary for the Rockets to land our pick will require us being just another team. If we suck horrid Dell loses his job and we keep our pick, if we do amazing Dell keeps his job and we keep the pick.
If the reports from Zach Lowe are correct, it's a fair deal. Not a great deal cause you could just wait a year and sign the guy + you have the 1st rounder next year.
If the ESPN report is correct, this is a downright awful deal.
I hope Carmelo goes to Houston. Who would play D?

This is where MM has been.
Does this give the Rockets enough room for Lebron + Melo? This generation of players is the biggest joke.
I'm assuming they'll need to deal Jeremy Lin?
PG - Jrue/reek
SG - EG/rivers
SF - ? / Ryan
PF - AD/ J Smith
C - asik/AA/whithey
If healthy, we should be able to compete against anyone.
Zach Lowe is saying between 11-20, so that's who I'm trusting.
