Pick 17: Shane Larkin

Larkin is way undersized, in fact, he had the shortest standing reach ever recorded at the combine, but his ability to be a pointguard at the next level offensively is hard to question. He is an elite athlete and is lightning in a bottle in the pick and roll. He became a breakout star for the surprisingly good Hurricanes this season.

The Hawks have Jeff Teague, a restricted FA guard who is a quality starter and appear to be focussed on possibly adding Chris Paul, but Larkin would be a quality backup for both as well as having instant starter potential. Larkin was chosen because he was simply the best player available as the Hawks didn't like any center available at this spot

Best Case: Ty Lawson

Pick 18: Giannis Adetokunbo

Giannis is a player with huge potential, he is 6'9" with a 7'3" wingspan and has descent perimeter skills, the Hawks want to get longer on the wings and down low and Giannis does that, the Hawks are tired of being in NBA purgatory and decided to gamble with this pick. Giannis is the youngest player in the draft and will need further physical development in Europe for a couple seasons and saves them cap room for Dwight Howard and Chris Paul.

Worst Case: Never makes it to the league
Best Case: Nicolas Batum

The Jazz's biggest weakness last season was perimeter shooting, and it could get even worse next year as their top deep threat (Randy Foye) is an UFA. Tony Snell has perhaps the sweetest stroke in this draft and would benefit greatly by playing with their other first round pick Michael Carter-Williams.

If these NBA Finals have taught us anything this year, it is that this new brand of NBA basketball requires teams to have role players to help spread the floor. For the Nets last season, their best spot up 3 point shooter was Keith Bogans. Yeah. So, in order to give the Nets more floor spacing and a better option at the wing than Keith Bogans and Jerry Stackhouse, the Nets will be adding the 6'7" 3&D specialist from UNC, and no his name is not Danny Green. Reggie Bullock is perhaps the best shooter in this draft with a high, quick release and the ability to knock down 3's coming off screens and as a spot up shooter. In addition to his shooting, Bullock offers nice physical tools with decent size, quickness, and effort that help him in defending his man, a task he has proven to do fairly well. The Nets will be looking to make a deep playoff push with a core of Deron Williams, Brook Lopez, and Joe Johnson, and the addition of Reggie Bullock brings them one step closer to their goal.

With the 23rd pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, the Indiana Pacers select:
Kelly Olynyk

Not exactly the "sexy" pick, but with the uncertainty Indiana faces at the PF position, the Pacers had to go with one of the most talented big men in this draft. While he possesses the size of a true center, his game more closely resembles a power forward, particularly of the pick-and-pop variety, since his ability to stretch the floor is what will immediately translate to the next level. His game is one of finesse, similar to that of Pau Gasol's, in that he is is comfortable shooting the mid range range jumper yet has no problem putting the ball on the ground and his back to the basket. Kelly looks like a guard at times as well as he handles the ball. This was a no-brainer for Indiana, who on their board had him being taken several picks before theirs. While Indiana never expected to knock this pick "out of the park" especially in what most describe as a weak draft, they are continuing to build upon the young core they have already established as soon to be yearly contenders for the East crown. Olynyk brings them that added depth and definite upgrades off the bench.

The Knicks need a shooting guard desperately after JR Smith's likely departure, and Franklin just happened to be the best available player on the board.

With the 26th pick in the 2013 draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves select:

Gorgui Dieng

Dieng is one of the best centers in the country this year, and was a HUGE piece in leading Louisville to a National Championship while being the Big East defensive player of the year. He has the size and length to play center with a 7'4 + wingspan. He has good quickness and good leaping ability and a very high motor. Defensively he is a standout prospect. He has above average rebounding, and did a great job protecting the rim for Louisville. His role in a zone is cause for concern on how he will adapt in the NBA, but Minnesota may be in need of a Center real soon depending on Pek's decision to leave/stay and his age. The most underrated aspect of Dieng is his offense. He has an above average mid range game and the size to finish around the rim.

Minnesota would do well, in my mind to land Cj McCollum and Gorgui Dieng.

Thoughts?

I think that'd be an excellent draft for Minnesota.

McCollum is a steal at 9 and would give them an extra scoring punch they need. Love, Pekovic, and McCollum are all great scoring options.

Deing is a nice pick too. When I saw him play, his passing and awareness really impressed me. I think he could play with either Love or Pekovic and be a solid big off the bench.

F/C Lucas Nogueira Brazil
The kings of pick and stash get a eventual replacement for Tim Duncan. Nogueira can stay overseas for a couple more seasons to refine his game. Once “Timmy” calls it a career, this kid can be brought over to take his place. This a player that makes perfect sense for the Spurs to select. The Spurs seem to have much more success with international players than any other team in the NBA.

With the 29th pick the Oklahoma City Thunder take Tim Hardaway Jr.

The Thunder need some more scoring punch off the bench and with this pick it will grow some competition between Hardaway and Lamb to see who will fill the Martin/Harden role in the rotation.
