The 2008-09 Attendance thread {merged}

Attendance talk is going to eventually get very boring. It's not going to change. It's going to be around 17,000 for the entire season. I doubt the attendance ranking will change much either, if that is what people are watching. We've sold out tomorrow night, I'm sure we'll sell out Friday,...etc. etc. We'll have some where we go a little below a sell out, but, most of the games are going to sell out or even hard sell out. We'll probably be exactly where we are now when the season is over or maybe, even a couple of hundred higher. What is interesting and slightly worrisome for some teams and the NBA is seeing some cities have very low attendances and this will continue. We may see some go even lower. Other parts of the country are being effected by the economy and it is going to get worse with mass layoffs and ripple effects. It will effect the NBA, IMO, but, it won't effect New Orleans. We are in an expanding economy due to Katrina recovery still in place and people continuing to move back home. And we have a great team.

For me personally, last years intent of a thread like this is useless. I think this year tracking attendance overall, though fun to guess, we'll have a pretty steady year. I think this thread is a great, remember there are just a few tickets for the game tomorrow type thread. Not as a sense of tracking the sales but of tracking sales yet to be made should a friend or colleague ask if there are still tickets to be had. In the case of tomorrow's game against the Lakers, I was a few minutes late with my findings of tickets remaining.

I think at this point the only game I expect to be poorly attended will be the MLK day game, and that's because a lot of us don't get the day off. If it was corporate America holiday like Christmas or Thanksgiving then I would think it would be one of the best sold games..

My not so bold prediction based on the Hawks sales numbers and other games is that we'll end up averaging right around a sell out.. Games like tomorrow where 18,000+ will balance out the few that are closer to 16,000. Plus we still have one more against LA after tomorrow, two against SA, and one against Boston. All of which I'm sure will be packed! This is a great year for sure!

If they keep on playing like this we may need to open this attendance thread again.
Fans don't pay good money to watch this crap at home.

Then they shouldnt be fans if they dont go back to a game because we lost a game. Believe it or not you will have losses in an 82 game season. I know its pretty fascinating.

Are you being serious??? This isn’t like the circus or something. You go into that knowing you are going to get a snow cone and guess what? There are the snow cones!! :hihi: This is sports. It’s not a guaranteed outcome. As much as I hate seeing it, they are going to lose. We just have to believe that they are going to win more than they lose and support them no matter what.

Not quite a sell out tonight, but still, a pretty decent draw especially being early in the season. I remember last year, this game would have had about 10,000... How far we've come, especially with a bad national economy I think this is a pretty solid number.

Portland will be a better draw in the very near future. The casual fan in NOLA doesn't realize the talent that this team has and the fact that they will probably be a player for a number of years to come in the West.

Oden looked great tonight, this portland team is for real. I didn't believe it until I watched the game tonight. They create a lot of turnovers and can hit some shots.

Much sooner then anyone can imagine. The economy is really tough right now and folks cannot afford to pay their hard earned money to see the likes of what we saw last night against the Kings. With all due respect to the Kings they had NO business being on the same court with us talent wise.
That was a game we "should" have won by 20 points or more. For goodness sakes the Grizzlies beat them the night before. They were tired, we were well rested. I would be very concerned if I were Shinn.

Not until atleast next year. This year is going to be alright and the hornets won't struggle like this for several years, they have a good GM and superstar with Paul so I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Had to tell radkison, with a superstar like Chris Paul a walk up crown may always show up regardless of how poor the team performs. However, my prediction is that if we continue to perform at .500 level, it will effect the team come season ticket renewal time.

Haven't had a chance to look at the numbers and was curious. When I've managed to see the Bees on TV, it seemed like the crowds were large and into the games.

Good but dissapionted at WED attendance of only 16,000 for national TV. I guess because it was a late game and people had work Thurs. Morning.

I know a lot of my friends that were going to the game decided not to because of the fog and having to cross the causeway. I think that played into some empty seats as well.

I can tell you the market isn't very good for reselling tickets. I have season tix and when I can;t make the game I haven't been able to get what I paid for my season tickets. $40 to sit in the lower bowl corner on a 70 per ticket face value doesn't seem like too much to ask. I have had my Kings tickets up on this site for 5 days with no bites. I guess the economy is as bad as they say it is!

I need some Rocket tickets, potentially 12/26. 4 would be nice.

Attendance has been fine. 607 short of a sellout (if they're still using 17,200 as a sellout number) on Wed. night. The place was crazy and had a playoff atmosphere. Attendance has been fine.

We're averaging in the mid 16,000s for the year. It should pick up some more now that football is over. The big win Wednesday couldn't hurt either.

that's just due to the lack of traffic on the exchange board - nobody knows it's there.

if i could make the game this weekend, i would eagerly buy your tickets at that trice

try putting your tickets up on stubhub. prices there are ridiculously high. that's why i always check here first, but there are rarely any posts.

If you have season tickets resell them on the hornets ticket exchange. I tried to sell my tickets cheaper on some different sites, but when they didn't sell I put them on the ticket exchange. They sold in less than 2 hours and I sold them for double my original offer.

WGAS? When you look around the league arena's seem half empty nearly everywhere. Some arenas are virtually empty. Teams boast high numbers...but thats not butts in seats and we all know that. "Attendance" equals tickets DISTRIBUTED. Even the saviors of the NBA...the mighty YHT has empty seats throughout the building. The Hornets are doing quite well. In an economy where sports teams are trending down across the board (ticketing, sponsorships or both), the Hornets are growing their business.

Maybe because they can't make it to the game. :rolleyes: I've had to resell my tickets to one game, because of my brothers' wedding. I guess I should get my priorities together and refused to be his bridesmaid. :hihi:

i think they meant they're selling "season" tickets for individual games... not the whole season at once.

I wish there was something we could do to make people more aware of the ticket exchange board. People are missing out on good seats for good prices right now if they really don;t know it is there.

Mine are for sale this weekend because my wife scheduled our annual Christmas party at my house without looking at the schedule. Then when I found out it wasn't on CST I had to order league pass. Not starting off as a cheap weekend!

I also have to sell them from time to time because I get club seats through work sometimes.

i just posted my tickets for tomorrow night on the ticket exchange. it wouldn't let me ask for less than face. hopefully it works though.

For what it's worth ... watching League Pass we have some of the best crowds in the league. We are not selling out every single game, but we have great crowds. We can put this attendance nonsense behind us and leave it to towns like YHT to fret over. :hihi:

ditto. i think it could be used a lot if more people knew about it (especially since stubhub is such a ripoff). you can only access it through the forum jump at the bottom of the page, or by going to the news page and clicking on forums. i suggested putting a link at the top of the site (like for the LA business board, tech forum, etc), but no dice.

Yeah, I was not knocking this forums exchange because usually you can find tix at a decent value. It is the people who buy these tix and sell them for higher than face value prices on some games like the Celtics,Lakers,Cavs etc. Sometimes they can not sell these, Which serves them right, because they(tix seller)lose $$$ but leaves an empty seat in the Arena.

I may need some tickets to the Rockets game, or possibly even the game on 12/28. :)

i don't blame those folks - my guess is that most of the people posting their tickets for exorbitant prices on stubhub fully intend to use the tickets if they aren't sold. but the potential profit is too much to pass up, if someone bites.

there weren't many empties at the last lakers game - even though stubhub was still advertising hundreds for sale up right until the day before.

I did not know this forum had an exchange I usually use ticketmasters for the Saints.

I used Craigslist the one time I sold tickets to a Hornets game.

I will use this sit if someone I go with backs out of a game.

I can't imagine a reason in the world why anyone on the face of the Earth would have any concern whatsoever about Hornets attendance?! We're fine and early in the season are averaging less than 600 from a total sell-out average. Could it get better---yes, very little, because that is all there is room for with improvement in attendance.

Bumped because I'm looking for a pair of tickets for the Laker game. I posted in the exchange, but like has been discussed, the traffic on that particular section isn't very high. So if you've got 'em, I'd be glad to take them off your hands. Doesn't really matter where in the arena.

i will say this about our atmosphere. last year you could tell such a difference between the sixers game in november :( for example and the stretch run. now that we've had a few months of those crowds and it seems routine :D , i wonder if there's the same vitality there. friday should be a big game IMO

If you are trying to loot a team or just have a really bad one, I guess you can get caught up in all of this and waste a bunch of time.

We wanted to go to the Wizards game but got caught up at the Christmas in the Oaks thing. ErikH, who is in town, told me that they also wanted to go and he went to the box office early in the day. The game had already sold out.

A sellout....the week between Christmas and New Year's.....on a Tuesday night.....against the Washington Wizards.

I was very surprised that the game sold out.. figured maybe 15k.. but still.. we should track it... I like to know how close we are to the "hot zone" I think it's very urgent. We should color code it and shift the numbers.. Anything less than 20,000 actual attendance per game means the team is going to move.. Lets face it.. The 17-18k per game just isn't enough.. Our owner is broke.. out city is broke.. our people can't afford a pair of socks not much less nba tickets and our stadium is a masoleum(sp?).. I guess I'm just saying fells.. I think OKC can support two teams..:hihi:
