I dont think JC needed to do this. You can promote your ideals this day w/o being persecuted (to a degree). ESPN kept encouraging players to "come out"... They should have just left it alone. Would it be big if a star player came out? Sure, but i dont think its necessary in todays society. Im sure there are plenty of gay people in professional sports as we speak. They just dont publicize it to the world. Hence the word privacy Its nobodies Gurdamn business!!!!!

But it's okay to publicize your heterosexuality, is it not? Even if you personally don't "approve" of Michael Jordan announcing his marriage to the world through ESPN, SI, and NBA.com, no one has a problem with it -- in fact, it's the kind of thing people enjoy hearing about, or else it would not be news in the first place. Should a gay player be afraid to share the same aspects of his personal life that straight players often share with their teammates?

Good point, but I and I dont care about anyones sexual preference. ESPN created a problem when there was none (imo anyways). If a player admitted he was gay in an interview or something im fine with that... I just dislike the way he went about it, and i hate ESPN for pressuring people to do this. The fact that he did this proves that he felt pressured to say something; he has nothing to really gain.

Don't care. Give gay people the right to marry also religious zealots. However they want to do it.

That said, I wanna see the look on the face of the first guy that has to post him up. I bet he faces up real quick.

I kind of think the players already knew what was up. That could explain the overwhelming response in favor of JC coming out. These players are with each other months at a time, they know who are doing what and who. Nevertheless, it's not a big deal. The media just was waiting for something like this to keep the clicks going.

I don't think everybody in every organization is that tight lipped. There is always a blabber mouth somewhere in the building. I just don't think anybody cares that much.

Thats fine and dandy but ESPN has been doing this ecourage coming out thing for a while. I literally witnessed it myself during sportscenter and thought; this is an incredibly dumb idea... this just advocates that there is a problem between teammates coaches w/e based on sexual preference... It just reeks of political agenda; nobody should care about another's sexual preference.

Nobody came out to the media- im sure teamates knew about it. There is more than homophobia in this world; ppl will always be persecuted in some manner. Its sad but it happens; jason coming out isnt going to change things. I applaud the man for showing some courage, but nobody needs to know this. You either accept people or you dont.

I don't wanna to get to deep into this, but just know cover marriages exist. People have done this in the past and admitted to it lol. But hey maybe I'm wrong maybe I'm right. It doesn't matter because that's his life.

And having people "come out" does nothing IMO either. There are tons of rumors that go around about athletes and nobody even cares. Most of the guys that would likely come out wouldn't shock any one. Hell I'm not shock about Collins.

If these things will become apart of culture it should be natural not these ground shaking moments people seem to be looking for. Besides just because there is a large group of ignorant people doesn't mean I or anybody else should have to cater to them. I have no problem if a person wants to come out, but I still fail to see the point. Nobody batted an eye lash when Brittney Griner came out. Why because we just knew.

They don't for a similar reason as to why there is no white male history month. If Collins publically embracing his sexuality helps even one person to be accepted by his family or peers, it was worth it.

The discrimination gays face in this country is not on the same scale as minorities (especially blacks) and women used to be. However, they are still discriminated against (imo unjustly). Collins coming out as an active player in a major team sport can be a landmark moment for the LBG movement.

I feel black history month is dumb as well. Black history is American history and vice versa. Why do we have to focus on it for just one month then the other 11 we can ignore it? These things are a crutches on society. Sure they are good to a certain point, but the continued usage of them only stunts the overall healing and growth.

I rather people just be who they are and if it's accepted great if not who cares. The constant search for a gay male athlete just seems media driven. We have been so conditioned to wait for these huge landmark moments. When in reality true equality is something that happens subtly and naturally.
