Is Vasquez the long term answer?

Is the pace thing more of a Vasquez problem or a Monty problem? I do agree that Vasquez is too slow to consistently run the break and he still misses a lot of open guys in the paint and is turnover prone. Plus add in his defense, he's probably not a long term option. I would be fine with a guy like Chalmers who can defend and make open shots and let Gordon and Davis create offense long-term. I think Vasquez's defense will be a liability as well unless the team has another big with Davis to help like the Lakers did to support Fisher who was terrible defensively. I don't see Anderson being that guy and I think he will be a liability as well in the playoffs with his lack of defense and rebounding. This team needs a big center who can defend and rebound (Drummond :( ).

I think blame goes both ways. I remember Jarrett Jack talked about last year that Monty wanted them pushing the ball and getting the ball across half court so they had a lot of time left on the clock to run the offense. I guess you could read that whatever way you want, but I don't think Monty wants them playing this slow. But I also doubt he wants them to be a Houston type team either.

I hope Monty wants them playing faster because they need to offensively since Gordon is the only guy who can consistently create and he's not back physically.

I like Vasques as a backup and mostly because of his defense. He is good enough for spot starts but I think Monty is loosening the reins on the offense and Vasques. That is why he's scoring a lot.

Is Vasquez a long term answer? Was Derek Fisher? Was BJ Armstrong? Steve Kerr? Jason Williams/Gary Payton? Mario Chalmers? These are all guys that have won titles in the last 20 years. If you are looking for GV to be the star of the team then yeah, he isn't the keystone to your team. If you are counting on him to do more than be there to make solid passes, you will be disappointed.If you are counting to get fouls that only stars get, then prepared to be angry. But if you are expecting all those things from him, your teams FO should be fired for selling you a bad product,and you should quit following basketball as you don't know the difference between basketball and a turtle.

The guy just came off of a triple double. The talk of making him your backup can now be put to rest. Backups just don't get triple double. If that were the case you would be seeing more of them in Chicago, Boston, and with the Clippers. Vasquez is your starter at the point, now the front office needs to get talent around him that he can feed the ball to and help us win more. We have a nice core right now to where Vasquez doesn't have to be our star, yet he is because a lot of other guys aren't showing up.

Give us time to gel and grow, and you will learn to love Vasquez, or hate him in spite of his productivity like Mark Ingram amongst Saints fans. The backup is always the most popular guy in any sport, get over the belief that the better option is on the bench. If he was the better option he wouldn't be on the bench.

Fans are gonna talk about these things regardless and not every fan is going to be happy. I think right now the FO is planning on rolling with Vasquez and Rivers for the time being. A lot of it depends on how Rivers progresses over the next 2-3 years. I think they're gonna use our picks and money for FA on a scoring 3 and a 5 to pair with Davis. We also need more quality backups. The fact that Henry, Mason, Roberts, and Thomas ever see the floor is a joke. We need to replace them with guys that can score. Our bench is a much bigger problem than our starting PG. but our perception of Vasquez seems to differ game to game, week to week. I think him and Rivers are good for now, especially if Rivers progresses like I expect him to.

they played together at Montrose Christian School, and were best friends, Durant helped Vasquez to lern English... they met everyday at 6:30 in school, to make a shoot around till school started

I mean can we kill these threads already? First if all that answer cant be answered right now! Who knows what could happen. Second the guy is a double double machine and just got his first triple double. He is GROWING as a player. That takes WORK and WILL. Can G lock down Westbrook? Well who can. Does speed give him d issues? Yes. That is what EG is for. No one ever mentions his size and strength advantage over many PG's. v Oh and he is no doubt the team leader. Just watch how he talks to people in timeouts. AND HE IS ONLY GETTING BETTER. Move on folks.

No we can't kill these threads because the problem isn't Vasquez himself, it's that he needs certain pieces around him for the team to contend. Since there are quite a few adequate PGs in the league and not that many stud SFs, it might be easier to build with the SF as your weak link rather than the PG. We'll see what happens in the draft and FA, but if that doesn't fill the hole at SF it may be time to go in another direction at PG.

well this is an easy fix then , trade Durants "brother" Greivis along with Eric Gordon to OKC for Westbrook, try to get them to throw in Jeremy Lamb and were set.

Kevin Durant is one of, if not THE, classiest player of this generation. I remember in 2010, When everyone was running to big Market Teams and ring chasing, he decided to stick it out in OKC.

I'm not saying he's not classy, because it seems like he is, but he was in a completely different situation than everyone that was running to Big Market Teams. Durant was a RFA getting his 2nd contract. He really had no choice besides to take the tens of millions of dollars that OKC wanted to pay him. If OKC never wins a ring before his next contract and other teams offer him a better chance at winning, then we'll get to see how classy he really is.

Find a way to trade Xavier Henry(expiring contract) to Indy for Gerald Green, who brings energy! Needs coaching on defense but has a lot of potential offensively with 3pt range and slashing.
He's a triple-threat player!

That or get a couple of all star players around him and you will be fine. Aside from Rondo, no top 5 pg has won a title in the last 10 years. Kidd was on the decline. Billups was top 5 at the time, Parker was top 5, but outside of them, no dominant pg has won a title in a long while.

You can win with GV as long as you arent counting on him to be your top threat.
