For the few guys you can make a case for that made it there are thousands who didn't. I like Murray a lot but he has some serious concerns with his game. He has his pros and cons like anyone but some cons are scary ones to have.

Yea I think he would be a perfect fit here. Especially if we got someone like Dunn and the potential he has. Like you said his contract is great going in to the new cap and gives us even more flexibility. Jrue is on another level then Rubio and considering the issues they have at PG I could see them seriously considering the swap. I think it's a trade that both teams can come out winning because of fit and need. Jrue could help that team take a step to the next level and give Kidd a PG similiar to himself. I think Kidd values PG over a SG and IMO Jrue is better then Middleton but not by much. I think they would even have to throw in a little extra to get Jrue but I would be open to a straight up swap.

Murray’s shot making has been his best attribute and is probably what will get him paid in the pros. He’s proven able to not only hit shots spotting up on the weak-side but also shooting on the move — sprinting around a series of screens, setting his feet in a pinch and pulling the trigger. His mechanics are clean and his release is quick enough that he can get his shot off comfortably. Often getting the ball from Ulis in good spots, Murray has hit 38.2 percent of his 89 3-point shots, being assisted on 85.3 percent of those.
so 85% (through January, could be more or less) but yea . He's really at his best offball. Which I think he could carve out a nice role in the NBA as a good shooter with great scoring instincts but he doesn't have the size he needs to be a Klay Thompson type guy who only plays off the ball. And that's assuming his 3 point shooting ever gets to that level. Which I wouldn't say is likely...
Yea comparing him to Klay makes little sense when there is no comparison. I can see him being a very similiar player to CJ McCollum which is definitely not a bad thing. I would feel a lot more comfortable with a player like Hield though who has everything he has an more. Plus he's a better athlete and has a much better frame for the defensive side of the ball.
Having your best shooter as someone who zig, zags through screens and can catch and shoot in on the run is very bothersome for a defense. Rip Hamilton was great for that.
Most of the great shooters we have had simply spot up waay outside whereas to space the floor. Murray would demand a very good defender to stop him from getting 3's
I think he can create much better than people think. When you're playing next to a 5'9" PG- he is the PG on every play and the offense is going to go through him. Murray shot high volume as a fresh. and still hit over 40%. gimme a break. The few times he did create he looked immensly skilled and talented
IMO the safest prospect we could choose would be Deandre Bembry at the end of the 1st or early 2nd
He racked up 17.4 ppg 7.8 rebs 4.5 assists for basically 2 seasons at st. joes and is widely regarded for his versatility and high bball IQ
Quote:
Few players have increased their stock in recent weeks as much as St. Joe's wing DeAndre Bembry, who is fresh off another very strong performance against Cincinnati in the Round of 64, with 23 points (on 14 shots), 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. He seems to have saved his best for last, after an exhilarating 30 point outing against VCU in the Atlantic-10 Tournament Championship game.
Bembry will see one of the strongest opponents he's faced thus far in his college career in #1 seed Oregon, certainly from an offensive standpoint at least. He'll likely be matched up with forwards Elgin Cook, Dillon Brooks and Dwayne Benjamin for most of the night, all of whom are very different players. Brooks is the most skilled of the bunch, but Bembry will have a significant advantage here in terms of athleticism and length. Cook might be Oregon's best matchup for slowing down Bembry, with his chiseled frame, long arms, strong athleticism and aggressive mentality defensively.
Scouts shouldn't have too many question marks about Bembry's overall talent level, as he's one of the most versatile players in the college game, possessing tremendous instincts, passing ability and underrated athleticism. He tends to float in and out of games for whatever reason, though, on both ends of the floor, looking far too lackadaisical with his intensity and effort level. His shooting has also been somewhat of a concern, as he's converted just 26% of his 3-point attempts this season and 31% for his career.
Quote:
Saint Joe's guard DeAndre Bembry helped himself as much as any other player at the Nike Academy in Santa Monica, CA. Measuring a solid 6' 6” in shoes (albeit with an average 6' 8” wingspan and overall frame), Bembry displayed a very versatile offensive skill set that, when coupled with his athleticism, could make him a very interesting prospect in the 2016 NBA Draft if he puts together a productive junior season.
Bembry played above the rim in transition, facilitated out of pick and roll sets and isolations in the half court, moved actively off the ball, and made enough shots (both off the catch and off the dribble) to generate some hope for him developing into a more reliable shooter. Bembry may not be an elite athlete at the NBA level, but he shows great speed in the open court and is able to play above the rim with relative ease in the half court.
But what stood out the most was Bembry's ability to make plays with the ball. Although he's not an overly advanced ball handler, the Charlotte, NC native was very comfortable distributing on the move, hitting the roll man in stride, locating spot up shooters in traffic and even throwing lobs on occasion.
Bembry is a bit stuck between the two and the three from a physical standpoint, but his natural passing instincts and ability to play with the ball helped ease some of those concerns. Bembry also has the lateral quickness to defend shooting guards at the NBA level, which more often than not defines a player's position more than anything he does on the offensive end.
From what MM was saying we're highly likely to go with an upperclassman.
Full court what do you think about Winston Shepard from San Diego St.? Maybe he works with a former Aztec in the off season while having a similiar skill set. Not saying he will be Leonard but he has a chance to be a very good player IMO. I like his skill set a lot and if he can improve in a few areas that just take hard work he can be very good.
TO me the perfect draft would be
either Murray, Hield, Dunn or Brown
trade one pick and player for a first and get i Skal Labissiere
then come back and draft Deandre Bembry in the 2nd
Labissiere was a flop last year; Now, he is still a good damn prospect that most probably will become a starter for somebody. He would be the rim protecting center who could also run the court with Davis
We NEED an upgrade at center. The other western powers would all have a problem with our length and speed in the frontcourt--- and you have to be stronger than them somewhere
jrue and frazier
Hield and BDJ
ennis and Beambry
davis
skai and asik
otherwise we should try and make a smaller move and grab diamond stone or thon maker
Diamond Stone could really compliment Davis 20 minutes a game.
jrue and frazier
Hield and BDJ
Paul zisper and ennis
Davis
Stone
Would love to move back into this draft and grab Skal. With the two 2nd rounders and some future picks it's possible to trade back in. I think Skal would be the perfect big man to try and develop to his potential. Working out with AD everyday could only be a good thing for him. The kid has top pick potential and it's likely he just needs more time. Look at Drummond for example who had two years that weren't very impressive. Skal and AD would fit perfectly next to each other being versatile to be interchangeable on both sides of the court. I think he will be much better then Noel because of his mid range shot.
ManCJ McCollum has to make you feel very good about drafting someone like Hield and Murray. Just shows Hield has all star potential and can be a top 5 SG. He is an inch taller with a much stronger frame and a better athlete. If you watch Murray he is a very similiar player. He's actually an inch taller while having the same wing span and standing reach. Both had a very similiar skill set in college being somewhat combo guards. If CJ can be a star then you should feel a lot more comfortable with Murray.
When you look at the SGs in the playoff really Hield would be one of the bigger ones. The only SGs that would really have the height on him are Klay and Derozan. Harden is a little taller but other then that nobody is going to give him any problems. Even Murray matches up against all of the SGs but the 3 I mentioned. It's not like they can't guard those guys either.
Thon Maker>Skal
No I don't. CJ is shifty and sudden in a way Chris Paul is as well. He isn't a run and jump athlete, but he's much more difficult to stay in front of him because he's got a good start first step. In college you can see his ball handling and quickness on display vs Duke. Great crossover and hesitation game as well and was a much better ballhandler than both Murray and Hield. I don't think you can even make the comparison.
If they get Conley, I'm praying to sweet baby Jesus we draft Dunn and trade Jrue for a wing or high IQ mid first rounder like Valentine. That way we kill two birds with one stone. Demps doing something like this will make me a believer in him again. My MAIN thing with the office is the whole win now thing. In reality Murray would be a great pick, but since Demps is forced to win a upperclassmen is rumored to be the only option. Valentine and Dunn are both seasoned, but trading one of his "core moves" would probably confirmed his mistake about trading for Jrue. I'm not sure he is bold enough to do or admit that.
My thing is this, either go big or go home. If we are gonna try to build something special here, get rich or die trying. If AD leaves us, I'll honestly rest as a fan knowing we did EVERYTHING in our power to build around him and give him the pieces to win. I can respect any organization that tries. One like Houston, is it backfiring now? Of course! But their GM is awesome as hell for what he tried to pull off in my opinion. They made the wcf last year, and if his core pieces were semj passionate about the game they would be a power staple in the West for years.
That's what it's all about. I just feel that this franchise has to go all in and lay the groundwork for this thing starting this off season. I'm VERY intrigued to see how Demps will respond. He knows fans and support is against him, and Doubt in the air for this franchise and seaosn holders, let's just sit back let May 17 begin the domino affect.
Lillard and CJ were the 6th and 10th picks of the draft as well. Should make you feel a little better about our pick.
No CJ was not much shiftier then Hield. You also need to understand Hield is about 20 lbs heavier and much stronger while being even better at creating his own shot. The point was if CJ can do it at his size Hield definitely can and Murray has a very good shot as well. He and quite a few other SGs are showing you don't have to have Kobes size to be dominant. Someone like Hield can be one of the best scoring SGs in the NBA. Almost all of the SGs in the playoffs aren't any bigger and don't present a problem for them to guard. He has the size and length to guard someone like Harden while Derozan and Klay are the only guys who really have height/length on him. Murray is a little smaller but even he measures out better than Murray.
Honestly, watching Buddy move, he is really quick and athletic enough to get by in the NBA. I don't see the big fuss about his handles either. I think he will be a very productive player. Won't be surprised if he becomes an all star.
Hield is an inch taller with a 2 inch longer wingspan than CJ. Is a much better athlete while being way stronger having about 20 lbs more on his frame than CJ. Sure CJ might be a little better at creating for others but Hield can be an even better scorer and much better defender. I think a player like Hield could be exactly what this team needs and that is a flat out scorer who can take over a game. Having Jrue run the point and create for him while having someone like AD inside is something he hasn't had he luxury of playing with. Put a two way SF next to him and this team can be something serious. Hield has 20-25 ppg scorer potential. With Jure and AD along with a solid SF I can see Hield getting he ball enough for about 18-22 ppg. Kid is going to be a star.

Tried to find a short highlight clip illustrating the difference but show me anything resembling the quickness or balance that CJ shows there from Hield or Murray. I like Hield a lot (top 4 maybe 3) but he's more slithery than shifty driving to the basket. He doesn't have have that kind of start and stop quickness. kind of reminds me of Alec Burks with elite shooting. Bradley beal is probably still his best NBA comp though
Seems Sheppard could be as ready as any player in the draft to walk in and earn his coach's love for his tenacity and versitlity on defense.... only problem is his shooting ability will probably prevent him from walking in that door until after having spent some time in the developmental league.
This is one of the many reasons I wish we had our own developmental team. Hell, the team could be located in B.R/ Mobile or something whereas to drum up more support for the pelicans in the region. Having a handful of developmental projects learning your system and getting coached up can only help huh?
He doesn't need the type of quickness but he still has plenty. Hield is still bigger and much stronger which I already stated. Hield has even more scoring potential from behind the line and around the basket. CJ is the better creator but outside that he doesn't do much better. Jrue/Hield has the potential to be everything Lillard/CJ is and more especially on the defensive side of the ball. You add in AD for us and we can be a much better team than the Blazers. We can add a much better SF then Aminu as well. We also have a bench that is better IMO.
Yes I definitely agree we need a DLeague team. Has so many positives and would give Dell an even better opportunity to find his gems. Having a team that runs the same system as us is a huge plus as well. Good to be able to send your good players down after an injury to somewhat work there way back which teams have done. I think putting the team somewhere in north LA would be great for exposure. Even one of the gulf states without a basketball team would be great as well.
If we rid of Ryan Anderson, Petr Cornelie would be an interesting 2nd round pick,
nbadraft.net has him going at 49, but draftexpress has him going at the end of the 1st to the Warriors. IMO they always compliment the better FO's with players they think will be good ones.
He is every bit of 6'11", with a 7'1" wingspan, and better yet his forte is running the court and hitting 3's (45% this year and 41% last year)
He's eager to learn, rebound and play D; just needs to get stronger. He isn't going to get you to the playoffs, but in an age of stretch 4's he may have the prettiest shot out of all of em. (and he could be an excellent defensive player)
Id rather gamble on him in the 2nd than AJ Hammons and many others
Quote:
Petr Cornelie – Standing 7-feet ½ without shoes, with a 7'1 wingspan, Cornelie is a smooth athlete who moves fluidly and plays above the rim with ease. He's a “stretch 4-man” in his words who possesses a beautiful jump-shot complete with a high release point and a very natural touch, shooting 40% from beyond the arc this season. Cornelie has made major strides with his approach to the game this year, and looked like a veteran in the pro game we took in, scoring 14 points and grabbing 5 rebounds in 14 foul plagued minutes of action. He plays with great confidence and maturity in a tough and physical league, and although he struggles with the lack of bulk he possesses relative to the older players he faces, he shows great potential defensively on the perimeter thanks to his quick feet and ability to switch on ball screens. Finally, he draws rave reviews for his personality from everyone that has been around him, and came off as being highly engaging and possibly the best interview we conducted from the many players we spoke with on this trip.
Sure. I can agree with all of that but the bench part. Hield would be an amazing get. Unfortunately I doubt he makes it to 6 or 7 in a draft with a weak freshmen class after Simmons and Ingram. I'm not even sure Murray and Brown would be lotto picks in last years draft. I think they would have both graded out worse than Winslow at least.
That is pretty impressive! I'm going to have to check him out. I think the only thing we could use for our bench right now is a stretch 4 unless we Ryno back. I like Dante but can't hurt to have a young guy learning under him for us to develop.
Man that kid has a lot of potential. I would absolutely love to draft him. Maybe even let him stay over seas a little longer. Possible he is on our radar with Dell. Surprising he isn't rated higher with that height, athleticism, and shooting stroke already. Yea he needs to put on weight and get stronger but that's the easy part.
Buddy Hield pre-draft workout!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1Xp_XkXEGc
With that work ethic, he can't help but be amazing.
The guy does a workout video so he must have a great work ethic?
Am I missing something here?
That Hield vid was just him practicing his shooting and a small bit of dribbling.
Nothing strenuous or hard about anything he did. Displayed nice handles before his shot and great shooting skills.
Yes.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bask...worked-way-top
You don't improve as much as he has unless you put in the work.
Sorry it just seemed like a "wow that was a great work ethic" comment based on the video posted.
I believe he does have a great work ethic as well taking his total progress into account. It just seemed like it was being based off of just that video. My apologies.
Trying to pick between Dunn and Hield is painful. Chances are one will be a lot better than the other. Why can't we just trade Jrue and Tyreke for another high pick and take both?
No way would I trade Jrue for a high pick. I would be very interested in drafting Dunn and trading Jrue for Kris Middleton though. If I have the choice between Hield and Dunn I'm going with Hield no question. Kid is going to be a star who can score the ball as well as anyone in the NBA. The way 3 pointers have become such a big part of basketball we can have one of the best in the NBA on our team. I think Hield is going to be better offensively and defensively than CJ McCollum who is a stud. You out an all star SG next to Jrue and sign a good SF in FA this team can be something serious.
Jrue is the one most likely to get something valuable back, unfortunately.
Does anyone know which draft site is the best/most accurate over past years. I've just been checking nbadraft and draftexpress but there's some pretty large differences between the mock drafts of the two and was wondering which one of these is the more accurate, or if anyone would recommend another site?
JJ Reddick, CJ McCollum, Courney Lee, Wes Mathews, Andre Roberson, Monta Ellis, Kentavious Caldwell Pope, Avery Bradley, Tony Allen, Danny Green, Kyle Korver, JR Smith, Demar Derozan, Klay Thompson, Dwayne Wade, and James Harden are all of the starting SGs in the playoffs. I don't see someone like Hield having trouble guarding or scoring on any of those guys. The ones he will have trouble guarding are the ones everyone has trouble with. He is bigger then half of those guys. I think a lot of people are getting caught up in the height/length with some of the top SGs in the draft. I'm not a huge Murray fan but even he matches up well with a lot of these guys. Another thing we have a lot of these teams don't is a very good and big PG in Jrue. Having a back court of Jrue/Hield I think can compete against any back court in the NBA on both sides of the ball.
Hield has all star written all over him with the type of game fans and media love to see. We could use someone like him who can just flat out score and take over a game. If we don't land one of the top 2 spots I pray we can land Hield.
Well another point is look how few of those guys are one and done. Look at the top sgs in the NBA and save Derozan they all stayed in college at least one season. Youth is incredibly overrated. I mean Archie Goodwin was a better prospect than Hield was then when they came out. Hield improved, Goodwin didn't. I'm sure I could find better examples if I looked, but it just goes to show you that you can't assume similar projection arcs for different players. It's the same logic Wolves try to use to claim KAT will be better than Davis. Davis made astronomical improvements, you can hope but you can't expect for the same improvements in Towns.
Yea I didn't really think about the age thing with this. I'm a big believer in players developing their game and I don't see it being any different if they became great in college. It is possible KAT never gets a whole lot better than he is right now. Like you said AD made historic improvements which is a big part of some of the unrealistic expectations people put on him. It's like if he isn't the best player in NBA history being Dream in the past at 22 somehow he isn't working on his post game hard enough. All of those players did stay a while which is interesting.
A player I can see Hield being very similiar to on both sides of the ball but much better at creating his own shot is Wesley Matthews. Hield and Wes have an almost identical frame from height to their physique. Hield is half an inch shorter but has a wingspan half an inch longer. Everyone knows how good Wes has been as a defender in the NBA and Hield has the ability to be every bit as good. Would love to have Pack and Erman working with this kid on the defensive side of the ball where he can not only be good but great.
The more I dig into Hield and other players who are doing it at his size with similiar skill sets the more I want him in the draft. He is a perfect fit for Gentrys system and can be an elite scorer. I really think Hields defensive potential has been under rated big time because of his size but when you compare him to almost all of the good SGs he's just as big if not bigger. Kid is going to be a star who could very possibly be that player we are looking for to be ADs "robin" wing man. Jrue/Hield/Davis and a stud SF in this FA or next could put this team in serious contention.
Klay Thompson only has a wingspan half an inch longer than Hield. Anybody questioning how good he can be defensively should feel a little better. He has everything it takes to be a great defender. I just can't imagine how good he can be offensively with a PG like Jrue next to him who can help set him up and a big man like AD to take pressure off. He had good players around him at Oklahoma but not guys who compliment him like these two. Just about everything he did was creating for himself with defenses game planning everything around stopping him. Makes it much harder to try and stop him when AD is every teams biggest worry and problem.
