Pelicans interest in Blair is intriguing. Is it true interest, a backup plan, or a message to Oden's camp?

Thats not what I mean. My concern is more along the lines of him impressing the teams. Nobody has even made a minimum offer which is basically Brian Roberts money.

If we were getting rookie Dejuan Blair, I would be on board, but something happened to him last year. His rebounding, his one great skill, fell off a cliff.

He can't defend 5's and we don't need any more guys to guard 4's, so I don't know how he plays. Honestly, I think Lance Thomas gives you more at this point. At least he can hit the baseline J and defend bigger 3's like Melo.

I agree. He does not fit what we are building. That's why I almost think our name is being mentioned more as a message to Oden (if indeed management feels Oden's agent is using the Pelicans to leverage Heat).

I guess a 5 with hopes for improvement due to his bulk. But good points. For us he would be 12-14 and minimum. Came into league with expectations and performed pretty well 2 years ago in Spurs (Think Demps and Monte) system. Think Lance is gone. Heard he is on way to Toronto?

I want to say it was a confidence issue. He got lost in the rotation last season and his minutes were inconsistent. I thought he started out the year playing pretty well though. That said, I don't like him once he gets matched up against centers he can't bully. It's an ugly sight.

Probably just a rumor. But I didn't see it discussed yet.

BTW. You have had the best comments on new look Pelicans.

IF we don't get Oden who do people prefer?:

Blair 24 yo C/PF with career averages of 7.8PPG and 5.8 RPG in 19 minutes OR
Thomas 25 yo PF/SF with career averages of 3.1PPG and 2.4RPG in 12 minutes

Either fits a purpose for the minimum IMO.

That was weird about Blair possibly signing here, I was about to say...but if we sign Oden when the heck does Smith play? Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he's traded if we signed Oden. Unless Withey's a project in the Dleague he won't have much PT(especially if GO signs). We could start him but then it'll bring up questions about the other guys we just signed. It just seems like if everything goes smoothly Smith may be the odd man out. He just doesn't completely fit to me with our plans moving forward.

if we were in the lead for Oden I guarantee we wouldn't find out about it because this team keeps everything under wraps so well. No one knew Tyreke was on our agenda until they were meeting with him, no ones seen even a hint of what the jerseys look like, we find out about trade deadline attempts months afterwards... dell has the best poker face in the league

Honestly it won't really matter that much if he signs with us or not, but after just reading the Heat fans' forums I really want him. They are so ignorant and make so many uneducated comments. They act like we're a terrible team with no future other than a possible "fringe playoff team" and they also say stuff like "have fun with Eric Gordon, Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evams, and Anthony Davis" like it's bad and those guys are not good players and have no potential... It's literally unbelievable. They think every player wants to pay on their team and they are "retarded" if they choose another team. For this reason, I hope we both offer the same amount of money and he choses us... Stay classy Miami.

from what i've read is they have the ability to offer the 2.7M exception. however, if they go that high, with luxury tax implications that deal would cost them 10M. so TECHNICALLY they can, but that's a steep price to pay.

I think its funny that MIA fans are so arrogant... they would be a consensus "fringe playoff team" without LBJ. The Heat can be beat. hell if not for a couple plays in the Finals the Spurs beat them in 6. but its all good their reign is over. The East is getting stronger with the Bulls getting Rose back. Indy getting better. Knicks making moves. Can't wait.

So today's the day Oden comes out in a Pels jersey right?

Blair signed with the Mavs. Why are people still talking about him possibly signing with us, I'm confused?
