I like this trade. A 5 that has range, who can finish games, score and rebound.
My question here is what does Jonas think about coming here? Is he going to be another souring vet that we all hate at the end of this season?

Sources: The Grizzlies are interested in moving up again after acquiring the 10th pick from the Pelicans.

Jonathan Kuminga or James Bouknight are potential targets for Memphis with another trade-up. Going live on @SpotifyGrnroom to discuss this and more about the 2021 NBA Draft:
I don't like bleeding assets because of lack of patience and past mistakes. But at least this will be a fun offseason now. FA has so many options available now and the draft has gone from picking between 3-4 players to picking between 10 different ones plus fallers. I wonder if trading down means the Pelicans have a "reach" guy high on their board.
well, we got our stretch 5 that we can end games with.....so now do we keep lonzo or go for a sign and trade for another piece...
Wouldn't call him a stretch 5-
Valanciunas attempted 57 3-pointers last season and had a average shot distance of 6.9 feet. That was the 20th-shortest in the league, however, he's replacing Adams who at 4.7 feet had the 6th-shortest shot distance.

I dont think it is a lock Jonas is here this year. I dont think its a lock we keep 17 either. Fun trade to talk about, but I wouldnt draw any definite conclusions yet. First domino to fall, and as always, I think you judge the offseason as a whole
The 2022 first-round Lakers pick the Pelicans are sending to the Grizzlies is top-10 protected and will turn into two second-round picks if not conveyed, @hoopshype has learned.

Yea this is what I figured. Memphis had a fun season last year but knew that they didn?t have the potential to really make a leap. Now they?ll step back and try to find a star to pair with Ja. A team the Pels should absolutely jump in the standings this upcoming season, but definitely makes the Grizz intriguing long term. I would have preferred them to remain content with being at the back half of the playoff picture.
Hope they are not able to unload him cheaply-
Eric Bledsoe, who New Orleans included in a trade package, is not expected to stay in Memphis, league sources tell @YahooSports.

I don’t like that the trigger was pulled this quick, I think we could’ve got a better deal during the actual draft. BUT, I do like that we have more money to play with this off-season, it signals what we’ve all known which is that the Pels are in the market for an Allstar talented vet. I’m expecting a very aggressive free agency and sign-and-trade. It wouldn’t be surprising if we unloaded the 17th pic during the draft as well. This is Zion’s team and there may be a player in the league already who he may also like. Anything’s possible. What I do know is that Griff’s job is gone if he screws up this season.
Not necessarily. A Heat 2025 pick would have more value than a Lakers 2022 first in a world in which you make the big trade in June 0f 2022
I think they draft at 17, and my bet right now would be Kispert or Murphy, but I am just saying they arent dead set on making that pick. Griff made the trade now because he is gonna keep calling around these next few days
And I think that's the problem. people are still killing griff for the moves last summer, but you can't turn back the hands of time and change that. Gotta judge this trade for what it is now. Those moves from last year have been corrected (let's hope), and I wonder what other moves Griff will make, because I doubt he's done trading.
I will say it is impressive how Griff was able to get rid of two bad contracts at once. He got us into them but I didn't expect for both to go so quickly. It's good b/c you can tell he knows his mistakes and he's trying.
I think one of the things you absolutely have to credit Griff for, so far, is that he's not doing the sunk cost thing. ''Oh but we traded for Bledsoe and kept him and gave him all these minutes, we can't just give him up'' nope, gone. ''Well, Stan only had one year and there were extraneous factors at pl-'' no, gone.
If it's not going the way he wants it to, he's cutting it off and trying to do better elsewhere. Obviously at some point you have to start nailing the moves, not just getting out of bad ones quick, but it's a somewhat positive sign.
Holy crap. I was joking when I suggested we’d get Val back from Memphis.
Welp. Moving Steven Adams + the true pariah, Eric Bledsoe, sure cost this team a lot. I mean it's so massive. Just completely hamstrung now. Damn you Griff.
If they stay at 17, I'm wishing for Kispert or Duarte. Very good value for Kispert and extreme value for Duarte. Both are older players that can step right in. Kispert also isn't afraid to open his mouth. Something supposedly lacking in a big way on this roster.
Would be a hard pill to swallow if either is still there and this team trades the pick.
Always been a fan of Valanciunas. Rebounding should also stay top 5 assuming Jax keeps making steps.
We got rid of Bledsoe so that’s a win in my book.
I would personally go Ziaire Williams
Rookies dont help any way. Shoot for the stars and if all guys in that range hit their ceiling, he is the best guy and the best fit in that range IMO
Great move. We got a very good player and we can still land a solid player at 17.
I think we will probably get Lowry. Very sure that is the plan.

What I like is that we have options. We can keep the TPE and use it, we can renounce it to get cap space, we can choose to match our RFAs or not, we can potentially move up a little in the draft if we want, etc etc. Lots of possibilities, and we're not hamstrung.
Finally someone with post moves
At 17 I prefer Jared Butler and Trey Murphy III. I think Butler has star potential.
I love this move. We get rid of the two guys we needed to get rid of and got back a player better than both of them. I love Jonas. He?s a double double machine with a decent shot. AND we only drop back 7 spots, if we keep the pick, in a draft where I don?t see all that much difference from 5 to 20 lol. Not really but almost
I really didn’t want to take Kispert at 10, but if he makes it to 17 than I’m all for that cause we need a lights out shooter.
I think the Trade is a definite pass. Barring injury a 2022 Lakers pick isn't going to be worth heaps, and if there is injury its top 10 protected so no harm. Creates more salary room, gets rid of Bled. JV has always seemed like a good talker, something Zion and BI don't necessarily take to naturally, could be good to have him take that kind of leadership role and allow those guys to continue the focus on their games. It sure looks like we need more veteran leaders now though, unless some of the younger guys really are going to step up.
At 17...
Jared Butler
Cam Thomas
Zaire Williams
Corey Kispert
Then trade up to get JT Thor.
I'll be happy.
I think this trade gives us the flexibility we need to build a better roster around Zion, BI, NAW and Jaxson. I truly belive that is the core.
Gotta say, if we do get Lowry. Our starting five is Lowry, Naw, BI, Zion and JV.
All five players who can get you 20+ a night. That's a pretty darn good starting five.
Let's say Griffin gets word prior to the draft that Lowry is not a possibility, would you trade 17 for Malcolm Brogdon? Or 17 and JV for Brogdon and Myles Turner?
Some of yall complain, even when we win. This is an awesome trade for us. We essentially moved Bledsoe AND Adams by swapping 10 for 17 and then traded for a 5 that's a much better fit next to Zion and is a borderline all-star player, for the 22 Lakers first, which has top ten protection. All of this either has us getting a $21 mil TPE or an unreal amount of cap space.
So, stop your damn whining. We won this trade.
JV is too good and too good of a fit next to Zion and Jax, to trade for Turner. And 17 alone isn't landing Brogdon.
I would love Brogdon on this team though. Wish we could S&T Lonzo for him, but I doubt he wants to go to Indiana.
Wow. Just now seeing this. Gotta process. Wow.
Jonas is really underrated. He is the 3 point shooting 5 that everyone believes Zion needs, so we'll see how it goes. Will be interesting to see what the market is for him, bigs are getting cheaper and cheaper, but Jonas is one of the better shooting bigs in the league.
Hard to believe fans are being so picky about moving back from 10 to 17 and giving up 1 Lakers pick. We absolutely won the trade. Jonas is a beast.
