I hate say but you may be right. What you feel about him UNO

I like Burke... I just think that Monty loves himself some GV. Hell I like Austin at the one even more than GV, and we've even seen Roberts have solid games at the 1. I don't think Dell and Monty view the PG position as a need in this draft.
Even if we somehow sign or trade for another PG I don't think we'll draft one. JMO

We feel fortunate about the pick,'' Pelicans Coach Monty Williams said. "Obviously, everybody wants the No. 1 back to back, but we kind of knew that was going to be pretty hard for us. I'm glad we didn't take a severe drop. I feel like we can find a quality player with the sixth pick.''
Quote:
"The No. 6 pick is not bad at all,'' Pelicans forward Jason Smith said. "We knew we had a chance to get the top pick, but it just didn't pan out that way this year.''
Quote:
"We're still excited,'' Pelicans General Manager Dell Demps said. "We still think it's an opportunity. We're excited about an opportunity to bring in another young player in to add to our young core. We still think today for the Pelicans, our future is bright.
"Like Damian Lillard (this season's NBA Rookie of the Year), there have been quality players available at No. 6 in the past. We feel it's a great position to be in. We've been going through our process, studying these guys all year. Today, you start tracking these guys at 15, 16, 17 years old. So you know these guys a long time.''
If there is a year not to want the top pick, this is it. Is there really a whole lot of difference between the top 10 available players this year?
I have a feeling we go with a Center.
The more I think about it, the more I really don't care who we draft. There isn't anyone that I love that will be there at six, but I don't dislike anyone either.
If he were a dominant center in college, I might see taking the risk on him. However, he was not. That, coupled with an ankle injury already that may or may not be an issue, is too much of a risk at #6 IMO. If he could work out before the draft, it could relieve some of the concern, but he will not be able to.
How anyone who has watched both of them extensively in college can rank Len as a better prospect than Zeller is beyond me. Len is soft as Charmin.
I forgot how much monty like Rivers, we would trade EG or GV to draft a guard.
I wish Monty or Dell had a twitter account
People wanting the Pelicans to pick Burke are going to feel like the Saints fans who wanted Jarvis Jones. It's early on but I truly feel pick 6 is going to be Len or Bazz.
I don't agree with that. I think Muhammad has 20ppg potential. He might not do a lot of things well but his scoring is elite IMO. I don't care what the pundit says, you don't put up 18ppg in college as a freshmen and lack potential.
As for Len, he's a bit of a project. He, himself admitted that much. I think he has the tools and has shown the capacity to develop a post game. He would most definitely be picked to sit behind Lopez until his contract is up or if traded. Not sure if the staff wants to bring in a guy who doesn't contribute too much early on. But we'll see.
I don't know about that Haze... we got 3 PGs on the roster now that Monty likes (GV, AR and Roberts), but we have absolutely NO SF. If Burke and Bazz are both on the board... do you take another PG? or do you fill an immediate need with a guy that has the potential to score 20 ppg?
Remember the draft is before free agency, and there's no promise that we can trade GV. Unless hey just really don't like Bazz you have to take him there, or else you're in free agency over-paying for a SF because you need one.
Indeed. Muhammad got to the line too much to think he couldn't be a very good scorer in the NBA.
I understand all of that, but I think after 5 years that would look laughable. Bazz is a wildcard, Burke will be a solid starting PG at the very least. I'm just not a fan of drafting in ANY sport for need. There are more than a handful of FA SF's out there to pair with Aminu (or start in his place) this year if that's the concern. If the national player of the year falls in your lap, you draft him.
Is that Monty and Dell's thinking? Likely not and we'll draft for need. Barf.
I don't think Roberts even plays into the equation. GV can play both guard positions if needed. Rivers has not shown yet that he can be a PG. I would not pass on Burke with those 3 as the PG options. To me a top PG is more valuable than a top SF unless that SF is clearly head and shoulders above the PG. If Burke were gone, I would certainly consider Shabazz over Len. Len scares me as I do see him as a project and a project with an ankle injury that will not allow you to work him out.
If Burke isn't there I wonder if we can pull off a trade for Rondo with Boston for our 6th
Yeh, Rivers is going to get a chance to be our starting PG next year and picking Burke will throw a wrench in that plan.
Gobert!
Also, there are multiple reports that Mavs are looking to trade the 13th pick for capspace making a run at Dwight. That is where Saric is projected to go.
I don't know if that was the point, i think the quote meant that they didn't want to use the pick this year, not that you can have it if you take Marion, i think they want to sell it for cash, so they won't have to commit even the 1+ million that the 13 pick would get for those years.
They want every single penny available to them to use for Dwight Howard.
I also read that Portland might be willing to trade the 10th pick too.
To me, the hornets should be buyers for who ever is selling. if you can get 2, 3 4, picks, i would take them all. because you will have lots of roster spots, and all those guys that you could draft would be more talented then the end of the bench guys currently on this team who still need to be developed at this stage of their careers anyway.
People say we're young, but we only have a few young guys who are actually talented. The other young guys are not actually that young and aren't talented at all, they might be young vets in age, but their old vets in athletic ability.
We have space on this team for new back ups, you could fill in Roberts, Thomas, Henry, Harris and Amundson's roster spots with purchased 1st rounders.
A Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Rudy Gobert, Michael Carter Williams, and Isaiah Austin would all look really good and something different to this team despite their youth.
KCW, if we trade Gordon would give a 6'6 shooting guard to mold for the future, who comes in with that killer instinct, playing defense, a really good shooter and he's a few days younger the Ben Mclemore.
MCW, gives you a 6'6 pg with athletic and defensive ability, he would allow us to create match up problems especially if our starting Pg ends up being Eric Bledsoe.
Rudy Gobert, would give a us a 7'2 athletic center to bring along slow, he could be ready when AD is really ready in a couple more years, or at least by the next year. That would be a really difficult match up for teams in a series Same thing with Isaiah Austin.
And even if with trying to win next year, we still will have time and the coaching to develop those players. They become valuable assets that can help us to reload and make deals in the future that could allow us to be contenders for many years.
This is the year to do that.
I think Rivers can play SG no? At this point an energy guy to lead the 2nd unit would be best case senario IMO. I know this has been discussed ad nauseum, but I don't see how you don't try and upgrade at PG if you can. Now to your point thats not necessarily how Dell/Monty are thinking.
It seems you're right, but they also have to trade Vince Carter, hope Oj mayo declines his option, relinquish their rights to Collison and Beaubois, probably have to even trade Jarred Cunningham.
Marion would be way to much for us to take on. There is to much we can do with that 8 million.
How so? Rivers is a project everybody from the media to coaching to front office to fans agree. It's like saying having Vasquez will throw a wrench into the plan. If the plan is to keep all 3 that could be a problem but Burke is ready to start day one. So if we draft him GV is expendable. Rivers will get his mins playing behind Burke like he would Vasquez.
If we can dump Gordon contract if PHX takes Oladipo. We can do a trade once Gordon can be moved there. I'd eat Marion contract and having a seasoned vet around for a year can't hurt. With the 13th pick I'd look to Steven Adams from Pitt. I know I'm unique in my approach to building young. I think youth isn't the problem it's getting the right young players. 3 picks in what is considered as a weak class may seem crazy, but when you think of Burke/Oladipo both have 5 years experience combine in what was the best conference in college hoops. Adams would be a huge swing but at the price of adding Marion for a year it's worth it IMO. Ofcourse everybody seems stuck on winning ASAP as opposed to winning big when we can so I doubt anything close to this happens.
Isaiah Austin pulled out of the draft and is returning to Baylor next season: http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews....t-baylor.html/
I'm with you on sticking to building with youth and I'm a season ticket holder. Hope the club is patient and builds the right way without chasing overpriced, marginal free agents. Now if it's a young vet with upside, that's different. But I wouldn't, for example, deal the sixth overall pick for Eric Bledsoe or Chandler Parsons.
Steve Adams, really? I get the sense he's a workout guy. Are there really that many examples of NBA rotation bigs who didn't do much in college? Though I guess he is still pretty young.
Ha! Another group thinks he's more Kemba Walker than Paul. Validated!
Wow. Haven't I heard this many times here about a guy that's already on this team? I guess Burke has other attributes that people like to make up for it though right? Younger, better passer? Great in the pick and roll?Quote:
On the negative side, Burke lacks elite level speed and athleticism,
I like Burke. I like Porter. I'm glad I'm not a GM.

This mock has Burke at 6.
