Yeah I really tried to like Pelicans but just do not...at all.
Krewe>Pelicans :)
Pelicans for life! Creole blue and gold get it done Benson! I hate Mardi Gras Uni's they're nice every once in a while but not as full time colors.
IVE GOT IT! LOGO:
PELICAN ATTACKING THE JERRY WEST SILHOUETTE!!!!!!!!!
And when we suck we can be called The Pelican'ts !
I really want to get behind the "Pelican" movement, but I just can't. Everytime I say New Orleans Pelicans it just doesn't sound right. "Who dat say they gone beat them Pelicans" Sorry it justs doesn't work.
One issue is that Pelicans doesn't have an obvious abberviation, shorthand like Timberwolves had. P-Cans? Pelys? Dem Birds?
Dem PCans.
They swear up and down that they invented that phrase to. Just changing "Dat" to "Dey" doesn't mean a thing.
Who dey doesn't even sound right. At least "Who dat?" follows some kind of sense. Who they? Who the hell says that?
It should be "Who dem?" at the least.
New Orleans Pelicans was the name of our baseball team for over 80 years.
They were very frequently abbreviated "Pels". One version of their cap in 1977 had "Pels" written across it.
So, not sure how anyone can say "New Orleans Pelicans" doesn't sound right or that it has no abbreviation.
Our own sports history contradicts both statements.
And it's only on our state flag...speaking of which even that one is hardcore

Ripping it's own flesh to feed it's young...no wonder they are blood thirsty
Please no Mardi Gras colors!
I'm digging the Pelicans. I really am. Especially if they use the black/gold/red logo from earlier in the thread. I LOVE that logo!
It's starting to make sense... connect the dots. Gayle Benson hinted at a black/red/gold combo. The old baseball Pelicans used red (as far as I can tell). Homage to the old team of the same name, perhaps.

Anything other than Death Pelicans and I will be upset
I don't know if I can wait for the Pelicans merchandise to go on sale. The Board of Governors need to go ahead and vote so that I can empty the pocketbook on gear.

Sorry wanted to bring this Thread back to life...........
No this thread is dead, just like the chances we rebrand to the pelKLFJPSNOW{MLHSH{:A:GKDSJPOGDLNSLNVLVJTP
AHHHHH PELICANS AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! SO MANY!!!!!!HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!
As long as there is NEVER a "dirty birds" reference to the Pelicans, I'm cool with this name.
I like Pelicans number two right now.
I'm against the Pelicans name. Tried to let it sit and marinate in, even ask plenty of New Orleans ppl and ppl in other cities and only 2 out of 34 ppl like the name lol. New Orleanians hated it tho. I advise u guys to question and showcase the logo on popular social sites. I prefer Knights, krewe, and cyprss over Pelicans. Also Jesters is pretty badass to me as well.
Krewe... hated it from the beginning, kind of like the Clippers where there can be now marketable style or logo. Also ugly jerseys.
Knights... Arena football here we come!
cypryss... Really?
Jesters... see Knights but add ugly logo and jerseys
thats your opinion bro, but IMO Krewe is pretty unique and sounds hip and "cool" to appeal for merchandise and mainstream America for sales and popularity.
Knights is a generic but safe name with ties to the city.
Cypress name is also unique and roles of with perfect pronouncement. Also the arena can be the marsh pit haha.
Jesters is my favorite name. It has endless opportunities with logs, mascots, madri gras ties, etc. Think about how creative we can go with that route.
Pelicans has to many syllables and "New Orleans Pelicans" doesn't sounds appealing nor natural to say. Also many think of a pelican as a wimpy animal, i do not, but many people in the city and majority outside do.
i still like Pelicans and Crescents, but NEONIGHTS OVER EVERYTHING!
When we re-brand to the pelicans, can we hall of fame this thread?
Also can we create a Hall of Fame?

A pelican, derived from the Greek word πελεκυς pelekys (meaning "axe" and applied to birds that cut wood with their bills or beaks) - don't know how much more bad a** you need to be to be our mascot
Some of you overthinking this by a mile :hihi:
How about New Orleans Dive Bombers...with a Pelican mascot

These birds are ruthless AND fearless...oh, and the new owner has secured the rights to "New Orleans Pelicans".
